Britain and America

George III ascends to the throne of Great Britain in 1760.

His reign lasts 60 years.
He wants to reduce public debt caused by the Seven Year’s War, so he
introduces new duties on corn, paper and tea.

American colonies refuse to pay.

At the Boston Tea Party in 1773 some rebels throw a big quantity of tea into
the Boston Harbor as an act of protest, they say “no taxation without
representation”.
The Americans are divided into Patriots who want independence and
Loyalists who want to stay with Britain.

The War of independence starts in 1775.

In 1776, The American Congress sign the Declaration of Independence that

states that every man has the right to pursue happiness, liberty, and that
every govern must have the consent of the governed.

The British Army is defeated.

In 1783, Britain recognises the independence of the British colonies with the
Treaty of Versailles.

In 1789, George washing becomes the rst president of United States.

Giorgio III sale al trono di Gran Bretagna nel 1760.

Il suo regno dura 60 anni.
Vuole ridurre il debito pubblico causato dalla guerra dei sette anni, quindi
introduce nuovi dazi su mais, carta e tè.

Le colonie americane si ri utano di pagare.

Al Boston Tea Party nel 1773 alcuni ribelli gettano una grande quantità di tè
nel porto di Boston come atto di protesta, dicono "nessuna tassazione senza
rappresentanza".
Gli americani sono divisi in Patrioti che vogliono l'indipendenza e Leali che
vogliono rimanere con la Gran Bretagna.

La guerra d'indipendenza inizia nel 1775.

Nel 1776, il Congresso americano rma la Dichiarazione di Indipendenza

che stabilisce che ogni uomo ha il diritto di perseguire la felicità, la libertà, e
che ogni governo deve avere il consenso dei governati.

L'esercito britannico è scon tto.

Nel 1783, la Gran Bretagna riconosce l'indipendenza delle colonie britanniche

con il Trattato di Versailles.

Nel 1789, George Washington diventa il primo presidente degli Stati Uniti.
