1. In the context of '1S', what does it mean to sort out necessary and non-essential items?

Ans : "Sorting" involves separating important from unimportant items. This entails identifying what tools,
equipment, papers etc., we need regularly in our jobs versus those that aren't so vital anymore – either because
they've been replaced by newer versions or technology now makes them obsolete. By removing clutter through
this step-wise process, we aim at creating safer workplaces where efficiency thrives too!

2. Name two factors that are commonly considered when deciding whether to keep or discard an item

3. You are working at your desk when you realize your work area has become cluttered with
unnecessary documents, files, and equipment. What steps would you take as part of the '1S' phase to
clean up your workspace following the 5S Methodology?

Ans : As per '1S', I would categorize all my stuff into three groups - essential items needed for daily tasks,
non-essential items that can be discarded or relocated, and potentially dangerous substances needing extra care.
Then I’d organize these into neat piles or zones based on their importance and use frequency. Finally, once
everything is sorted out & labeled properly according to its category/usage, it will be much easier to maintain
an organized space!

6. Explain the core principle behind the "Set in Order" step in the 5S methodology.

Ans : The "Set in Order" or third “S” step in the 5S methodology is about establishing an organized layout for
your workplace to maximize efficiency, productivity, and overall effectiveness of business activities. This
entails assigning specific locations where tools, equipment, and resources should be stored as well as arranging
them logically so they can easily accessed whenever needed. By setting everything properly according
predefined standards you help maintain consistency throughout organization while ensuring smooth operation
free from clutter & chaos which may hinder performance.
