With the King George III, Great Britain is in control of the seas and is enjoying
a period of domestic stability and economic expansion. But his long reign is
remembered most of all for the loss of the American colonies.
Con il re Giorgio III la Gran Bretagna ha il controllo dei mari, gode di un periodo di
stabilità interna ed espansione. Tuttavia, questo regno è ricordato soprattutto per
la perdita delle colonie americane.

In the late 1780s, King George III su ers the rst attack of a severe mental
confusion, called the “royal madness”, that could be caused by porphyria, a
rare hereditary condition. George III becomes totally incapable of reigning so
in 1811 his son, the future George IV, is made Prince Regent.
This period is known as “THE REGENCY”.
Nel 1765 il Re comincia a dare segni di squilibrio mentale che peggiorano con il
passare degli anni. Sull'origine della sua follia sono state avanzate diverse ipotesi:
alcuni hanno ritenuto che potesse essere una conseguenza della por ria, una
malattia ereditaria del sangue. Impossibilitato a regnare, nel 1811 suo glio, futuro
re Giorgio IV, diventa PRINCIPE REGGENTE no alla morte del padre.

George IV dies in 1830 and is succeeded by his brother William IV.

During his reign the Great Reform Act passes (1832) changing the British
electoral system. It is a historic moment.
Re Giorgio IV muore nel 1830 e gli succede il fratello William IV. Durante il suo
regno viene accettata la Great reform che cambia radicalmente il sistema elettorale
britannico. Si tratta di un momento storico fondamentale.

When William dies in 1837, his 18-years old niece Victoria succeeds him to
the British throne.
