DALLA GRAFITE AL GRAFENE: DAL MONDO 3D A QUELLO 2D
Grafene
Graphene:
A single carbon layer of the graphite structure, describing its nature by analogy to a polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbon of quasi infinite size.
Note:
Previously, descriptions such as graphite layers, carbon layers or carbon sheets have been used
for the term graphene. Because graphite designates that modification of the chemical element
carbon, in which planar sheets of carbon atoms, each atom bound to three neighbours in a
honeycomb-like structure, are stacked in a three-dimensional regular order, it is not correct to
use for a single layer a term which includes the term graphite, which would imply a three-
dimensional structure. The term graphene should be used only when the reactions, structural
relations or other properties of individual layers are discussed.

LA STRUTTURA DEL GRAFENE
NEL CASO DEL GRAFENE PERFETTO GLI ELETTRONICI HANNO MOBILITA’ ECCEZIONALI (SUPERVELOCI) E DEVONO ESSERE
DESCRITTI IN MANIERA RELATIVISTICA: GLI ELETTRONI SI COMPORTANO COME SE FOSSER PRIVI DI MASSA
COSA SUCCEDE SE IMPILIAMO FOGLI DI GRAFENE SINGOLI UNO SOPRA ALL’ ALTRO?
NEI SISTEMI A MULTISTRATO GLI ORBITALI IN UNA CARBONIO NON INTERAGISCONO PIU’ SOLAMENTE CON I PRIMI
VICINI NEL PIANO MA ANCHE CON GLI ORBITALI CHE STANNO SOPRA E SOTTO

ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES
• The mobility is nearly independent of temperature between 10 K and 100 K
• Scattering by the acoustic phonons of graphene places intrinsic limits on the room temperature
mobility to 200,000 cm2·V−1·s−1 at a carrier density of 1012cm−2 (practically electron/hole mobility
> 40,000 cm2·V−1·s−1)
• resistivity of the graphene sheet would be 10−6 Ω·cm
• Ambipolar electric field effect
