Fiat Group
PURPOSE
To define performances of low carbon steel, cold
and hot rolled sheet and strip, used by Fiat Group
(FG) Companies Fiat Group Auto (FGA), IVECO,
and CNH to obtain parts by bending or cold
forming. There are three hot rolled and five cold
rolled grades covered in this specification, see
Table 2.

Definire le caratteristiche delle lamiere e dei nastri
di acciaio non legato a basso tenore di carbonio,
laminati a caldo ed a freddo, impiegate dalle
Società del Gruppo Fiat FGA – IVECO – CNH per
la realizzazione di particolari ottenuti mediante
operazioni di piegatura ed imbutitura a freddo.
Nella presente specifica vengono definiti 3
prodotti laminati a caldo e 5 prodotti laminati a
freddo, come da tabella 2.

It replaces former Fiat Group company Material
Specifications FGA 52806, 52807, I.S.15-2806,
and 15-2807 listed in Table 1 and should be used
on applicable new drawings. FG Grades may be
used for corresponding materials as shown in
Table 1 where IVECO 15-2807 or 15-2806, and
CNH MAT1011 or MAT1010 materials are
specified.
Essa sostituisce le precedenti norme FGA 52806
ed 52807, I.S 15-2806 e 15-2807 elencate in
tabella 1 e dovrebbe essere applicata nelle nuove
progettazioni.
In tabella 1 sono riportate le corrispondenze tra i
differenti gradi FGA, Iveco e CNH.

Coils, strips and sheets in low carbon steel for
vehicle applications for bending and cold drawing
operations with denominations and thickness as
defined below:

between 1,8 and 8,0 mm.
Lower thickness materials may also be
considered in this class when coming from
suppliers whose hot rolling machines allow
finished goods to be obtained with the same
thickness tolerance of cold rolled materials
according to table Fiat 54405 (I.S. 10-2341).

4.2 Flow lines sensitivity ( only for cold rolled
materials )
4.2.1 Rolled material
For temper rolled material ordered with surface
appearance MB, the supplier must assure the
absence of flow lines for 6 months starting from
the delivery.
4.2.2 Light rolled material ( Extra soft steel
quality)
For light temper rolled materials, to be specified in
the purchase order, flow lines are permitted in the
supplied material and on the finished part.
For these rolled products no one supply condition
or surface appearance is requested.
4.3 Visual Inspection
Rolled products must be free from defects that
may be detrimental to the usual application.
The surface must be technically clean, free from
rust and inclusions. Defects are not permitted
that may cause failures during the utilization
cycle, or damage tools, or may be detrimental to
the welding or brazing processes, or to the

adhesion of paint or protection coatings.
According to the purchasing order rolled products
may be supplied with raw or trimmed rims. In any

case, the trim status must not be detrimental to
the semi-finished utilization.
5 SUPPLY STATUS
5.1 Mechanical properties

4.2 Suscettibilità alla formazione delle linee di
scorrimento (solo per i laminati a freddo)
4.2.1 Laminati skimpassati
Per i laminati skimpassati richiesti con aspetto
superficiale MB il produttore garantisce l’assenza
delle linee di scorrimento per 6 mesi dopo la
messa a disposizione presso l’utilizzatore.
4.2.2 Laminati leggermente skimpassati
(Qualità Extra Dolce)
Per i laminati forniti leggermente skimpassati, da
richiedere espressamente all’ordine, si ammettono
linee di scorrimento allo stato di fornitura e sui
prodotti stampati.
Per questi laminati non si richiede alcuna
prescrizione di fornitura e di aspetto della
superficie.
4.3 Esame visivo
I laminati devono essere esenti da difetti che
pregiudichino la loro normale utilizzazione.
La loro superficie dovrà essere tecnicamente
pulita, esente da ruggine e da materiale estraneo;
non sono ammessi difetti che possano causare
rotture nel corso dell’utilizzazione o danni alle
attrezzature o difficoltà di saldatura e brasatura o
ancoraggio di vernici e rivestimenti protettivi.
Secondo quanto specificato all’ordine i laminati
possono essere forniti con bordi grezzi di
laminazione o con bordi rifilati. Lo stato dei bordi
non deve pregiudicare l’impiego dei semilavorati.

5.1.2 Laboratories alignment
To have homogenous evaluations between the
Fiat Group Laboratories, they will perform a
correlation study with annual frequency.
5.2 Weldability
Steel supplied shall be weldable by standard
welding practice and procedures used in the
automotive industry. Special processing or
application shall be according to technical
agreement stated on the purchase order.
5.3 Structural characteristics
The material structure must be ferritic, with
refined, uniformly dispersed grains. Grain size,
defined according to ASTM E112-96, must be

grain finer than size 7.
In the same coil, a variation in grain size between
the core and the surface of ≥ 2 is not permitted.

The presence of flake cementite at grain edge is
not permitted.
The presence of globular cementite inside the
grain is permitted.
The structural analysis, as the length of the coil,
has to be done at 1/3 of rolled material width.

5.4 Protection and final coating
Zinc phosphate coating and successive painting
operations must be assured when using products
and processes applied inside the FIAT plants (if
the application with these materials refers to
complete Body in White) or by suppliers (if the
application refers to components carried on
painted Body in White).

5.1.2 Allineamento laboratori
Allo scopo di rendere più omogenee le misure
operate dai vari Laboratori dalle Società del
Gruppo Fiat questi effettueranno un circuito di
correlazione con frequenza annuale.
5.2 Saldabilità
L’attitudine ai normali procedimenti ed alle
applicazioni normali di saldatura in campo
automobilistico è garantita. Per procedimenti ed
applicazioni particolari occorrono preventivi
accordi all’ordinazione.
5.3 Caratteristiche strutturali
La struttura deve risultare ferritica a grani fini e
uniformemente distribuiti. La dimensione dei grani,
determinata secondo la Norma ASTM E112-96,
deve essere più fine del grado 7.
Per il medesimo coil non è ammessa una
disomogeneità di grano tra cuore e superficie ≥ 2.
Non sono ammesse segregazioni significative di
cementite lamellare a bordo grano.
E’ ammessa la presenza di cementite globulare
all’interno del grano.
L’esame strutturale, in funzione della larghezza del
coil, è da effettuarsi ad 1/3 della larghezza del
laminato.
5.4 Verniciabilità
La fosfatabilità e le successive fasi di verniciatura
devono essere garantite utilizzando prodotti e
processi utilizzati presso gli Stabilimenti FIAT (se
l’applicazione con questi materiali si riferisce a
particolari della scocca completa lastroferrata) o
presso Fornitori esterni (se l’applicazione si
riferisce a particolari montati su scocca verniciata).
