ASSIGNMENT
1. What are the ways to build inclusive cultures?
- Create a supportive, respectful environment: promote diversity and fairness.
Have high expectations of all your students. Research shows that students respond better when
they feel that their teacher has faith in their abilities and is not focusing on their inabilities.
Create a supportive peer culture both inside and outside the classroom. This is when you
empower learners to respect and trust each other, making empathy and caring ‘fashionable’ and
reinforcing positive and pro-social attitudes by encouraging learners to help each other.
Plan learning which includes participation from everyone and encourages success. You can do
this by creating an environment which is personalised to students’ needs and by talking about
learning that focuses on what students can do and what they would like to do next. This can be
done through tutorials, Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and short and long term goal setting by
the learner so that they feel they have ownership of their learning. If you provide students with
opportunities to tell you what is working and what needs attention, you will have a better idea of
what to focus on.
Take a ‘community’ approach to learning and teaching. Inclusive values are developed through
a student’s lived experience and their exposure to other cultures and world-views. Bring your
community into the classroom and take your classroom out to the community.
2. Which among the ways is visible and not visible to your school ?
- I think its all visible to our school because, as we can see the environment of our school is eco
friendly. The teachers in our school have their high expectations to students. The teacher in our
school is supportive peer culture both inside and outside the classroom. They plan learning
which includes participation from everyone and encourages success. And also they take a
‘community’ approach to learning and teaching.
3. Did you encounter teachers who are not supportive in inclusive education? How about
teachers that promotes inclusive education, why do you say so?
- To the teachers who are promoting the Inclusive education thank you because its the most
effective way to give all children a fair chance to go to school, learn and develop the skills they
need to thrive.
4. Are there policies to have an inclusive environment in your school, what are these?
- The Convention states that PWDs should be guaranteed the right to inclusive education at all
levels, regardless of age, without discrimination and on the basis of equal opportunity.
Open and inclusive policy making is transparent, evidence-driven, accessible and responsive to
as wide a range of citizens as possible. It strives to include a diverse number of voices and
views in the policy-making process, including traditional cultures.
5. Make an ACTIVITY PROPOSAL that can help enrich inclusive culture in our school.
