Obiettivi formativi
Il corso si propone di offrire agli studenti una conoscenza di base sulla storia dell’arte
italiana (e non solo) dal Quattrocento al Settecento. Sono parte integrante del corso una
serie di power point che saranno forniti agli studenti.
Learning goals
The course aims to offer students a basic knowledge of the history of Italian art (and not
only) from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. A set of power point will be provided
to students.

Oral test on the topics listed in the program, aimed at ascertaining the knowledge of the
content and the ability to critical processing.
Prerequisiti
Una buona cultura generale maturata in qualsiasi istituto di istruzione secondaria
superiore.

General knowledge gained in secondary school.
Course syllabus
Art History: 15th-18th century
The course aims to provide students with a historical overview of the main phases of
Italian and European art, from the beginning of the fifteenth to the eighteenth century
and is divided into lessons (each of two hours). Topics: the origin of the Renaissance in
Florence and its spread in Italy, the novelty of Flemish painting and of its receipt by the
Italian masters, the emergence of the “maniera moderna” through the experiences of
Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo, the so called “manierismo”, the Carracci
“reform” of the Carracci, Caravaggio and his followers, the Baroque season, the art of
the 18th century (with particular attention to Venetian painting). Visits to the most
important artistic monuments of Messina will be an integral part of the course.
