Nella lingua inglese vi sono degli avverbi che causano qualche difficoltà a chi
li sta studiando per la prima volta e sono just, already, yet, still, ever
e never. Sono tutti usati quando le azioni stanno per accadere, o dovrebbero
accadere, o erano inaspettate sul momento. Essi vengono usati spesso con
il present perfect.
ESEMPIO:
He has just arrived home.
Lui è appena arrivato a casa.
I have just finished dinner.
Ho appena finito di cenare.
ESEMPIO:
I have already finished my project.
Ho già finito il mio progetto.
Luisa has already read the whole book.
Luisa ha già letto tutto il libro.
ESEMPIO:
I haven't finished studying yet.
Non ho ancora finito di studiare.
Have you finished taking a shower yet?
Hai già finito di fare la doccia?
ESEMPIO:
Do you still live with your parents?
Vivi ancora con i tuoi genitori?
Are you still mad at Marco?
Ce l'hai ancora con Marco?
Ever: quando si usa
Il termine "ever" è l'equivalente italiano di "mai", o per esteso "mai prima di
adesso", e si usa nelle frasi interrogative. All'interno della frase si colloca
prima del verbo principale al participio passato.
ESEMPIO:
Have you ever visited Rome?
Hai mai visitato Roma?
ESEMPIO:
I've never seen a monkey.
Non ho mai visto una scimmia
DA TRADURRE A CASA:
1. Non ho mai visitato Londra, ma ho già visto Parigi. (I have never visited London, but I have
already seen Paris.)
2. Lui ha appena finito di cucinare la cena, ma non l'ha ancora servita. (He has just finished cooking
dinner, but he hasn't served it yet.)
3. Abbiamo studiato per l'esame per sempre, ma non abbiamo ancora ricevuto i risultati. (We have
studied for the exam forever, but we haven't received the results yet.)
4. Lei ha appena iniziato un nuovo lavoro, ma è ancora in cerca di un appartamento. (She has just
started a new job, but she is still looking for an apartment.)
5. Non hai mai visto un'aurora boreale? Ho avuto la fortuna di vederne una una volta. (Have you
ever seen the Northern Lights? I was lucky to see one once.)
6. Non ho ancora prenotato le ferie, ma ho già iniziato a pianificare il viaggio. (I haven't booked the
vacation yet, but I have already started planning the trip.)
7. Hanno appena comprato una nuova casa, ma non l'hanno ancora arredata. (They have just
bought a new house, but they haven't furnished it yet.)
8. Sono stato a Roma molte volte, ma non ho mai visitato il Colosseo. (I have been to Rome many
times, but I have never visited the Colosseum.)
9. Non abbiamo ancora fatto colazione, ma abbiamo già preparato il caffè. (We haven't had
breakfast yet, but we have already made coffee.)
10. Lei ha appena finito di scrivere il suo libro, ma non ha ancora trovato un editore. (She has just
finished writing her book, but she hasn't found a publisher yet.)
