Using inversion: Rarely do I smoke. (added do after adverb)
1. Negative adverbs and phrases that we often use with inversion:
2. We can use inversion instead of ‘if’ in conditionals with ‘had’ ‘were’ and ‘should’. This is quite formal:
If you need any help = Should you need any help - if in contesti più formali diventa should /If I had Known = Had I known
3. We can use inversion with an adverbial expression of place at the beginning of the sentence. This is also quite formal or
literary:
4. We can use inversion after ‘so + adjective … that’:
Ex. Original phrases = I haven’t worked so many hour since I did my exam
Emphatic phrase: Not since I did my exam I haven’t work so many hours
