Simple present
‘I do’
PART 1
We use the simple present to talk about things in general, to describe routines and
situations that don’t change.
We form this tense with the infinitive of the verb (for ex. ‘To play’) without ‘to’
Ex. I play football, only the third person of the singular adds an ‘-s’ or ‘-‘es’ (see
Unit 1.3 of the Grammar book)
Ex. She plays tennis
And now there are some examples of routine actions with some adverbs of ‘frequency’

To form the negative and interrogative forms of the simple present, we need the
auxiliary ‘ do’ (‘does ‘ only for the third of the sing.),in the interrogative the order of
the aux. and the subject changes
Negative
Ex. I do not (>don’t) like chocolate
He does not (doesn’t) work on Sunday
Interrogative
Ex. Do I look tired?
Does she Play the piano?
Verbs such as Like, dislike , hate, love (that express likes or dislikes) are followed by the
–ing verb.
Ex. I like dancing I don’t like dancing

delle regole appena trattate. Prova a seguire l’esempio e scrivere una ‘tua’ daily
routine. Cerca sul dizionario le parole che non conosci.
‘DAILY ROUTINE’
My name is George, I’m a student, I’m 24 and I live in Germany. I’m very friendly and curious. I
like tennis and football and I don’t like cooking and watching the T.V.
I usually get up at 8.00 a.m.,I have a shower and after I have breakfast.
For breakfast I generally have a cappuccino without sugar and some cereals.
At 9.00 a.m. I go to University with my sister and I come back home at 6.00 p.m.
I often reply to my e-mails and I chat with my friends. At 8.00 p.m. I have dinner with my
family and after I go to sleep.
At the week-ends I always go clubbing and I play football or tennis with my friends.
In Summer I generally go to the beach and once a year I go to Paris to visit my grandparents.
On Saturday I rarely go shopping with my girlfriend,she loves it!
