1. INTRODUZIONE
carico vapore in camera.
richiesto può esporre l’operatore a gravi rischi personali all’apertura dello sterilizzatore.
NOTA
designate.

dallo strumento.

1. INTRODUCTION
This instrument is connected to a specific heat probe(TE5) and is independent of the process
controller as long as there is power at the main electrical panel. The instrument has a digital
display and indicates the temperature measured by the heat probe to which it is connected. The
safety thermometer is provided with buttons for programming the set point and the intervention
parameters. The main purpose of this instrument is to prevent the opening of the door(s) of the
sterilizer if safetyconditions for the operator, in terms of temperature in the chamber, have not
been achieved. The thermometer furthermore limits the temperature to a maximum operating
value. The safetythermometer is useful in all sterilization processes in general, but its use
becomes necessary when sterilizing liquids, which entail the risk of explosion or sudden boiling if
unloaded from the sterilizer at an excessively high temperature. The maximum and minimum
temperatures set on the safety thermometer apply to any process activated on the sterilizer. The
lower set point prevents the opening of the door(s)at temperatures above the set value, whilst
the higher set point closes the valve that feeds steam into the chamber. Intervention of the safety
thermometer can be enabled during the programming of the processes according to the
requirements of each cycle.
2. INTERVENTION THRESHOLDS
The safety thermometer is connected not only to the process controller but also to the door
control circuit. Before being installed on themachine, this instrument is configured so that the
operator can:
• Preset an intervention threshold (alarm condition known as A1) at a minimum temperature
value, below which the door(s) of the machine can be opened.
• Preset an intervention threshold (alarm condition known as A2) at a maximum temperature
value, above which the valve for loading steam into the sterilization chamber is closed.
If these alarms are activated, the above actions occur and specific alarm indicators provided on
the display of the process controller light up.
CAUTION !
When sterilizing liquids, always insert the TE5 probe in the product or, if this is not
possible, into a vessel which has the same content and volume characteristics as the
product to be sterilized. Failure to comply with this requirement can expose the operator
to severe personal risk when the sterilizer is opened.
NOTE
The safety thermometer may be configured in different ways during installation on the
sterilizer, depending on the specified operating characteristics. The "presetting" of the
maximum and minimum temperature values, with intervention of the alarm thresholds,
depending on the adopted configuration, can be limited to some sterilizers and not
available in others. Display of the value detected in the sterilization chamber is always
enabled in any case. Accordingly, in some sterilizers the buttons of the safety
thermometer may be protected from operator access, so that he can neither control nor
adjust the set minimum and maximum temperature values but only read the current
temperature detected by the instrument.
CAUTION !
If the instrument is protected from operator access, the following procedure must be
performed. Do not enable sterilizer start up unless you have first checked and if
necessary reprogrammed the alarm thresholds of the instrument according to the
instructions you have received.

3. CHECKING
This procedure must be performed weekly when the machine is on and the process controller is
activated. The conditions inside the chamber must allow to open the door(s). It cannot be
performed if a sterilization cycle is in progress or has just been completed.
NOTE
In some sterilizers, the buttons of the safety thermometer may have been covered to
prevent operator access. Accordingly, the operator cannot control or adjust the set
minimum and maximum temperature values. All the operator can do is read the current
temperature measured by the instrument.
NOTE
During programming, if no buttons are pressed for approximately 10 seconds, the
instrument returns automatically to the "Display" mode (displaying the temperature
measured inside the chamber).
1. Check the value set for the "minimum temperature in sterilization chamber" alarm by
pressing the button on the safety thermometer until the display of the instrument shows
the A1 parameter and the set value next to it.

Configurazione / operatività
le funzioni dei pulsanti
Documentazione per il diagramma di flusso
In generale:
FR, IT, ES, SE e DK.

Configuration /
operating the function keys
Documentation for routing diagram.
In general:
When configuring the 4114, you will be guided through all parameters and you
can choose the settings which fit the application. For each menu there is a
scrolling help text which is automatically shown in line 3 on the display.
Configuration is carried out by using the 3 function keys:
1 will increase the numerical value or choose the next parameter
2 will decrease the numerical value or choose the previous parameter
3 will accept the chosen value and proceed to the next menu
When configuration is completed, the dispaly will return to the default state 1.0.
Pressing and holding 3 will return to the previous menu or return to the default
state (1.0) without saving the changed values or parameters.
If no key is activated for 1 minute, the display will return to the default state
(1.0) without saving the changed values or parameters.
Further explanations:
Password protection: Programming access can be blocked by assigning a
password. The password is saved in the transmitter in order to ensure a high
degree of protection against unauthorised modifications to the configuration.
Default password 2008 allows acces to all configuration menus.

Signal and sensor error indication without display front
Status of the unit can also be read from the red/green LED in the front of the device.
Green flashing LED 13 Hz indicates normal operation.
Green flashing LED 1 Hz indicates sensor error.
Steady green LED indicates internal error.
Steady red LED indicates fatal error.
Advanced functions
The unit gives access to a number of advanced functions which can be reached
by answering “Yes” to the point “adv.set”.
Display setup: Here you can adjust the brightness contrast and the backlight.
Setup of TAG number with 6 alphanumerics. Selection of functional readout
in line 3 of the display - choose between readout of analogue output or TAG
number.
Two-point process calibration: The unit can be process-calibrated in 2 points
to fit a given input signal. A low input signal (not necessarily 0%) is applied
and the actual value is entered via 4501. Then a high signal (not necessarily
100%) is applied and the actual value is entered via 4501. If you accept to
use the calibration, the unit will work according to this new adjustment. If you
later reject this menu point or choose another type of input signal the unit will
return to factory calibration.
Process simulation function: If you say ”yes” to the point “EN.SIM” it is
possible to simulate an input signal by means of the arrow keys and thus
control the output signal up or down. When you finalise the point with 3, the
unit returns to normal mode.
Password: Here you can choose a password between 0000 and 9999 in order
to protect the unit against unauthorised modifications to the configuration.
The unit is delivered default without password. If you have locked the unit
with a password by mistake, you can always open the menu by using the
master password 2008.
Language: In the menu ”lang.setup” you can choose between 7 different
language versions of help texts that will appear in the menu. You can choose
between UK, DE, FR, IT, ES, SE and DK.
18 4114V103 CONTENTS
Auto diagnosis
The unit performs an advanced auto diagnosis of the internal circuits.
The following possible errors can by display in the front unit 4501.
CJ.ER - CJC sensor defect or CJC temperature outside range
FL.ER - Flash error
AO.ER - No load on the current output (only for S4...20 mA/S20...4 mA)
NO.CO - Connection error
IN.ER - Error levels on input
TY.ER - Configuration in 4501 does not match this product type
Selection of units
After choosing the input signal type you can choose the process units which
will be displayed in text line 2 (see table). By selection of temperature input
the process value is always displayed in Celsius or Fahrenheit. This is
selected in the menu point after selection of temperature input.
Safety readback
When the device is delivered with default configuration, the SIL function is
disabled. The safety readback function (loop surveillance) can be selected in
the menu O.RANGE, thus enabling the device to run in SIL mode. In order
to enable the SIL functionality, the menu item S4...20 mA must be selected.
Please note, however, that when safety readback is enabled, a sensor error
will be indicated as an error on the analogue output signal.
CJC
In the CJC menu you can choose between external CJC connector and internal
cold junction compensation. The external CJC connector (PR 5910) must be
ordered separately.
Memory
In the memory menu you can save the configuration of the device in the 4501,
and then move the 4501 onto another device of the same type and download
the configuration in the new device.
