COURSE AIMS
This seminar cycle aims to analyse the development of the energy markets and
policies in the Mediterranean region, and to identify the possible forms of
economic and political cooperation in this field between the European Union and
the countries to its south. The analysis will focus in particular on two key areas of
cooperation: natural gas and renewable energy. These dynamics will be presented
in the light of the most recent European policies such as the European Energy
Union and the New European Neighbourhood Policy. Each lesson will last 2 hours
and will be held in English.
COURSE CONTENT
1. Lesson 1: Energy in Europe: institutions and markets.
2. Lesson 2: The energy challenge in the MENA region.
3. Lesson 3: Turkey as key energy hub: myth or reality?
4. Lesson 4: The politics and economics of energy in the Eastern Mediterranean
region.
5. Lesson 5: Energy in Sub-Saharan Africa: Challenges and Opportunities.
