Acknowledgements

It is by the grace of God this year’s AGC of PTAG was a successful one and we
give thanks to Him. Next, I appreciate the management of Valley View Hospital
for giving me a financial support to attend this year’s AGC. May God continue to
bless and guide VVUH in all its dealings. I also say thank you to my Department’s
head, Pharm. Herbert for his continues support and guidance.

INTRODUCTION

The Pharmaceutical industry is constantly evolving and it is essential for


pharmacy professionals to keep up with the latest developments in their fields. The
Annual General Conference of Pharmacy Technologists is the perfect opportunity
to learn about the newest advancement in pharmaceutical care. It is an excellent
platform to exchange ideas, share experiences and enhance professional skills.
This year’s Annual General Conference of Pharmacy Technologists took place
from November 22nd to 26th, 2023, at Institute Of Local Government Studies,
Madina. The conference was centered on the pivotal theme “Enhancing
Pharmaceutical Production in Ghana: The Role of Pharmacy Scientists,
Technologists, and Technicians."

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

1. Keynote Addresses:

Distinguished speakers, including industry experts and government officials


delivered insightful keynote addresses on the importance of collaboration among
pharmacy professionals to boost pharmaceutical production in Ghana. Present
dignitaries included Dr. Raymond Agbadi (Research Scientist at CSIR Ghana), Dr.
Samuel Nii Bortey Gaizer (Production Manager at Unichem) and Franklin Owusu
Ansah (General Secretary of HSWU).

The thematic speaker, Dr. Raymond Agbadi in his speech, urged us to advance
and equip ourselves to be able to fit well in the pharmaceutical industry in the area
of production. Government of Ghana plans to make the country the
pharmaceutical hub of Africa and we the Pharmacy Technologists have a part to
play, he concluded.

2. Workshops and Training Sessions:

Specialized workshops and training sessions were conducted to equip attendees


with the latest knowledge and skills relevant to pharmaceutical production.

A Continues Development Program (CPD) session was conducted by Pharm.


Jerry Xorla Sossu via Skype from United State of America. Participants of this
program were certified. This certificate is a requirement for next year’s pin
renewal with our governing council, Pharmacy Council.

3. Panel Discussions:

Engaging panel discussions explored the collaborative role of pharmacy


scientists, technologists, and technicians in addressing challenges and optimizing
processes within the pharmaceutical production sector in Ghana.

There were caucus meeting each day at 5:00pm to 6:30Ppm discussing pressing
challenges we are facing in our various facilities and PTAG as a whole.

4. Exhibition:

A vibrant exhibition featured the latest pharmaceutical equipment and products.


Participants had the opportunity to interact with industry suppliers and explore
cutting-edge solutions for pharmaceutical manufacturing. Notable industries that
were present include Pharmanova, Unichem and Ernest Chemist.

5. Networking Sessions:

Participants were allowed to connect with peers, industry professionals, and


potential collaborators. These interactions fostered a sense of community and
encouraged the exchange of ideas.

Conference Impact

The conference successfully heightened awareness of the crucial role played by


pharmacy scientists, technologists, and technicians in enhancing pharmaceutical
production in Ghana. Attendees gained valuable insights, fostering a commitment
to implementing best practices in their respective fields.

Conclusion

The Annual General Conference of Pharmacy Technologists served as a dynamic


platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation. The theme
"Enhancing Pharmaceutical Production in Ghana" resonated throughout the event,
reinforcing the dedication of pharmacy professionals to contribute to the growth
and development of the pharmaceutical sector in the country.
This report encapsulates the essence of the conference, reflecting the
commitment of pharmacy professionals to advancing pharmaceutical production in
Ghana.
