What is your
collection really
worth?
I know that collecting trolls give
you a lot of pleasure and joy, but
have you ever thought of what
they can be worth in money?
From time to time some of you
collectors asks me what your troll
is worth. That is difficult to answer,
because there are a lot of factors
that decides that, but the right
answer is that it is worth what a
buyer is willing to give. Dependent
on how old it is, how infrequently
it is, its condition and so on. We
will take a closer look at this
question in this issue of the club
magazine.
At the last pages you can read
“Readers corner”. I must say that
it is really impressive how much
work and love you use on your
trolls. I can tell that all we people
who works with the trolls are very,
very happy about that, from the
modelers, those who produce them
and us who have the pleasure to
work with the finished troll figures.
We Norwegians who grew up
with the trolls have a really special
relationship to them, and it is nice
to see that also other nations seems
to love them as much as we do.
I hope that you will enjoy reading
this number of the club magazine,
and maybe it will inspire you to
take a picture of your collection
and send it to me together with a
few words about your relationship
to your trolls.

So che collezionare Troll vi da
molta gioia e piacere, ma vi siete
mai chiesti quanto valgono?
Ogni tanto qualche collezionista me
lo ha chiesto. E’ difficile rispondere,
perché ci sono tantissimi fattori
da considerare. La risposta giusta
è che “valgono tanto quanto il
compratore è disposto a pagarli”:
in generale si può dire che il valore
della collezione dipende dall’età
dei pezzi che la compongono, dalla
loro rarità e dalle condizioni in cui
si trovano, e così via. Tratteremo
da vicino la questione in questo
numero del giornale.
Nelle ultime pagine troverete
“l’Angolo del Lettore”. Devo dire
che è davvero impressionante
quanto amore e lavoro dedicate
ai vostri Troll. Tutti coloro che
lavorano con i Troll (i designer,
coloro che li producono e noi che
abbiamo il piacere di lavorare con
i Troll “finiti”) sono molto felici di
questo.
Noi Norvegesi, che siamo cresciuti
con i Troll, abbiamo un rapporto
veramente speciale con loro; è
molto bello vedere che anche le
altre nazioni sembrano amarli tanto
come noi.

vi verrà voglia di mandarmi una
foto della vostra collezione insieme

mit ihnen verbringt, aber habt Ihr
Euch jemals Gedanken darüber
gemacht, was Eure Trollsammlung
wirklich wert ist?
Ab und zu werde ich gefragt, welchen
Preis man für einen Troll erzielen
kann. Eine Frage, auf die es keine
leichte Antwort gibt. Eine Reihe
verschiedener Faktoren spielen hier
eine Rolle. Wie alt und wie selten
ist der Troll, in welchem Zustand
befindet er sich, usw. Die beste
Antwort ist: Ein Troll ist so viel wert,
wie ein Käufer für ihn bezahlt. In
der vorliegenden Ausgabe des Klub-
Magazins werden wir uns eingehend
mit dieser Thematik beschäftigen.
Auf den letzten Seiten findet Ihr
die Leserbriefe. Es ist wirklich
beeindruckend, wie viel Liebe
und Arbeit Ihr in Eure Trolle
steckt. Ich spreche für alle, die mit
Trollen arbeiten – für Modellierer,
Produzenten und für uns in der
Endbearbeitung – wenn ich sage, dass
wir sehr stolz auf Euch sind.
Wir Norweger haben eine ganz
besondere Beziehung zu Trollen, da
wir mit ihnen aufgewachsen sind.
Deshalb ist es wunderbar zu sehen,
dass auch Menschen aus anderen
Ländern die Trolle so sehr schätzen.
Ich hoffe, Ihr habt Spaß mit dieser
Ausgabe des Klub-Magazins. Vielleicht
regt es Euch dazu an, mir ein Bild von
Eurer Sammlung und ein paar Worte
über die Beziehung zu Euren Trollen
zu schicken.

Why Ny Form Trolls have become international collectables
There are probably several reasons why
people collect Ny Form trolls. Many
people do it because they simply like the
look of the trolls. Some people collect the
trolls because they are related to Norway
and Norwegian culture. Others again
collect the trolls because it is said that
trolls bring good luck (the more trolls the
more good luck).
Important reasons why the Ny Form
trolls have become collectables are due to
their uniqueness in look and shape. Our
trolls are created using a blend of natural
materials. The main ingredients originate
from a certain type of tree and elements
from the earth. All are cast and decorated
entirely by hand.

picked network of distributors. The trolls
have never been marketed as a mass
product that you can find everywhere,
which might be a reason why they are
still on the market.
When new trolls have been added to the
Ny Form troll family, some trolls have
also been discontinued to avoid that
the product line has become too large
to handle in the production. When the
availability of these trolls has decreased,
the collector’s interest for them has
increased.

This is one of the most frequent questions
we receive from troll collectors. If the
troll is still in production, we answer
that the value of the troll is similar to
the trolls’ retail price. (The retail price
is the price of trolls in the stores on the
global market. The retail price is a little
higher on the global market than the
price in Norwegian retail stores, due to
additional distribution costs to export
markets).
If the troll is presented in the current
Ny Form troll catalogue, the troll is
still in production, unless it has been
discontinued very recently. To be 100%

We have now developed an online
Ny Form Troll Value Estimator to help
estimating the Collector’s value, and to
be able to provide better answers on
questions regarding the value of Ny Form
trolls. The Ny Form Troll Value Estimator

There you will meet troll number 111
– one of the first Ny Form Trolls that
was made in the 1960s. Since this troll
is in production today, it represents the
knowledge we have collected on the
different troll models that have been
made at the Ny Form factory over the
past 40 years.
The estimated retail price Formula for estimated retail price
The price of the Ny Form trolls is not ERP = RPD x (1+AIP)YSD
based on the size of the troll only, but
also how complex the troll is to make. Definitions
Some times several different moulds are ERP: Estimated Retail Price
necessary to make one troll model. RPD: Retail Price when Discontinued
AIP: Annual Increase of Price %
The estimated retail price is an estimated YSD: Years Since Discontinued
price for the troll in a retail store as if the
discontinued troll was not discontinued.
The average annual increase of price of
the Ny Form Trolls has over time been
4,5% pr. year. The estimated retail price
is estimated by adding the average yearly
increase of the price to the retail price the
year the troll was discontinued.

By entering the item number of the troll,

and then the type of tag (if any) that is
attached to the troll, the value estimator
estimates a collector’s value based on
a) the estimated retail price
b) the availability of the troll
c) the age of the troll
d) the physical condition of the troll

The estimator estimates the collector’s

value according to the physical condition
of the troll in US-dollars, British Pounds
and Euros, and it shows how the different
factors above affects the collector’s value.

the information and explains how the

B) How availability affects
the collector’s
value of discontinued Ny
Form trolls
The harder it is to get the troll, the more
the troll collector’s are willing to pay
for it. The troll value estimator uses two
factors for availability, which both affects
the collector’s value.
1. The number of years the troll has
been in production.
This factor represents the rareness of
the troll model. The fewer years the
troll has been in production, the smaller
quantity has been made of the troll. This
means that the troll is harder to obtain
and it makes the estimator increase the
collector’s value. Examples of trolls with
a high collector’s value based on how
long the troll was in production are the
limited edition club trolls.
2. How many years since the troll
was discontinued
This other factor on availability indicates
something about how likely you are to
find the troll on the market. The longer
ago the troll was discontinued; the less
likely you are to find it on the market
and the more it affects the additional
collector’s value. Some of the really old
trolls you can only find on second hand
markets like eBay.
C) How the age of the troll
affects the collector’s value
The same way age is affecting the value
on coins and stamps, we can assume that
it is similar for trolls – even though the
troll is a discontinued model or not.
What we mean with the age of the troll
is how long ago the exact troll you have
was made.
Unfortunately the age of Ny Form trolls
is not so easy to determine, because the
production year is not marked on the
troll. What we do know is that different
tags (see picture on next page) have been
used on the Ny Form troll, and if the
tag is not removed from the troll it gives
us an indication on which time period
the troll was manufactured. The Troll
Value Estimator estimates an additional
collector’s value based on the tag the troll
has attached to it. If the tag is removed,
the estimator cannot take this factor
into consideration. It might be possible
to estimate the time period when the
troll was made based on the shape
and texture of the troll, but the value
estimator doesn’t have this functionality
(yet?).
D) The physical condition of
the troll
The physical condition of the troll also
affects the collector’s value of the troll.
The better quality condition the troll
has, the less this factor decreases the
collector’s value. The estimator estimates
3 different collector’s values based on the
condition of the troll.
Perfect Condition:
The troll has no cracks, no colour
damages and has the same condition as
trolls you would expect to find in the
store.
Medium Condition:
The troll is in ok condition, but you can
see that it is not brand new.
Bad Condition:
The troll has colour damages, a lot of
cracks and has broken parts.
Final thoughts and
considerations about the
collector’s value
It is important to keep in mind that the
Limited Edition, the club troll 2005
value estimator is only a price guide
based on the factors presented above. It
is the market forces that decide the real
collector’s value on collectables – how
much the collectors are willing to pay for
the troll.
Since there are several reasons why
people collect trolls, there are probably
different and quite subjective perceptions
of the collector’s value. For some people
it is more important that the troll is nice
looking, and for others again they find
the troll more valuable for them if it is
rare and hard to obtain.
It is also worth to keep in mind that the
Ny Form Troll Value Estimator is released
just recently, and that there might be
some adjustments on the degree the
different value factors affects the total
values. The estimator will be updated
with more historic information about the
trolls when available, and there the help-
functionality will also be developed with
more information.
Many collectors have noticed there
are some animal figures on the second
hand market with Ny Form tags on
them. The value estimator don’t include
these figures, but if the collectors find
the estimator useful, we might as well
develop a Ny Form Animal Value
Estimator.

Questo fattore indica la probabilità che
il Troll si trovi ancora sul mercato: più
passano gli anni dall’uscita di produzione,
meno è probabile trovarlo sul mercato
e più aumenta il suo valore. Alcuni dei
Troll più vecchi si possono trovare solo di
seconda mano, ad esempio su eBay.
C) Come influisce sul prezzo
l’età del Troll.
L’età influisce, così come su monete e
francobolli, sul valore dei Troll sia in
produzione che fuori catalogo. Per età si
intende il tempo tra l’anno di produzione
e l’anno attuale. Sfortunatamente non
è così semplice stabilire una data esatta,
perché sui Troll l’anno di produzione
non è segnato. Quello che sappiamo,
però, è che sono state utilizzate etichette
differenti nel corso degli anni: quindi,
se l’etichetta è ancora attaccata al Troll
indicativamente avremo un’indicazione
in merito al periodo di produzione del
Troll. Se l’etichetta non è presente il
collezionista non potrà utilizzare questo
parametro per la valutazione.
E’ anche possibile valutare l’età del Troll Different tags we have
dalla sua forma e dalla sua struttura, ma
lo “Stimatore” non ha questa funzione
used on the trolls:

D) Le condizioni fisiche dei
Troll.
Anche lo stato di conservazione influisce
sulla stima del prezzo del Troll: una
cattiva condizione del Troll abbasserà il
suo valore.
La condizione del Troll viene definita

Condizioni perfette: Il Troll non ha crepe,
il colore non è danneggiato e la sua
condizione è quella che ci si aspetterebbe
da un Troll acquistato in negozio.
Condizioni medie: Il Troll è in buone
condizioni, ma si vede che non è nuovo.
Condizioni cattive: Il colore è
danneggiato, ci sono delle crepe e delle
parti rotte.

E’ importante ricordare che lo 1978 – 1992
“Stimatore” è solo una guida, che vi
può aiutare a stabilire il prezzo di un
Troll da collezione, basata sui fattori
descritti sopra. Sono però le forze di
mercato che decidono il reale valore per
il collezionista: tutto dipende da quanto
il Troll è ricercato dai collezionisti e da
quanto essi sono disposti a pagarlo.
Poiché ci sono diverse ragioni per le quali
le persone collezionano Troll, ci sono,
probabilmente, percezioni diverse e
abbastanza soggettive riguardo al valore
di un pezzo. Per alcuni è più importante
che il Troll sia in buono stato, altri
invece lo trovano di valore se è raro e
difficile da trovare. E’ anche importante

ricordare che lo “Stimatore” di Troll
Ny Form è stato sviluppato da poco, e 1992 – 2004
potrebbero essere necessari aggiustamenti
della percentuale d’influenza dei diversi

Je schwieriger ein Troll zu erwerben ist,
desto mehr sind die Sammler gewillt für
ihn zu bezahlen. Mit Hinblick auf die
Lieferbarkeit rechnet der Kalkulator mit
zwei Faktoren, die Auswirkung auf den
Sammelwert haben.
1. Wie lange ist der Troll
schon auf dem Markt
Dieser Faktor drückt die Seltenheit des
jeweiligen Models aus. Je kürzer der
Zeitraum, der ein Troll auf dem Markt
war, desto weniger Exemplare gibt es.
Dies bedeutet wiederum, dass der Troll
schwieriger zu beschaffen ist und deshalb
an Seltenheitswert gewinnt. Beispiele für
Trolle dieser Art sind die Klub-Trolle, die
lediglich in limitierter Anzahl produziert
werden.
2. Wie viele Jahre sind ver-
gangen, seit die Produktion
eingestellt wurde
Dieser zweite Faktor gibt Aufschluss
darüber, wie hoch die Wahrscheinlichkeit
ist, dass man einen gewünschten Troll
käuflich erwerben kann. Je größer die
Zeitspanne, seit die Produktion eingestellt
wurde, desto unwahrscheinlicher ist
es, dass man den Troll auf dem Markt
finden wird und desto stärker steigt der
Sammlerwert. Einige der wirklich alten
Trolle kann man nur noch gebraucht
bei Internet-Auktionen, wie z.B. eBay,
erwerben.
C) Wie sich das Alter der
Trolle auf ihren Wert aus-
wirkt
Wir können davon ausgehen, dass das
Alter eines Trolls, ähnlich wie bei Münzen
und Briefmarken, Einfluss auf seinen Wert
hat – egal ob der Troll ein Auslaufmodell
ist oder nicht. Um das Alter eines Trolls
zu bestimmen, ist es wichtig zu wissen,
wann genau er angefertigt wurde.
Leider ist das Alter der Ny Form Trolle
nicht leicht zu bestimmen, weil das
Entstehungsjahr nicht auf den Figuren
eingraviert ist. Ein Anhaltspunkt sind
jedoch die verschiedenen Etiketten, mit
denen die Trolle bestückt wurden. Wenn
das Etikett nicht entfernt wurde, liefert es
Informationen über die Entstehungszeit
des jeweiligen Trolls. Der Troll-Kalkulator
berechnet dann einen zusätzlichen
Sammlerwert, der auf den Informationen
des Etiketts beruht. Wenn das Etikett
entfernt wurde, kann dieser Faktor nicht
berücksichtigt werden.
Das Alter des Trolls könnte auch an Hand Einigen Sammlern ist aufgefallen,
seines Aussehen und seiner Beschaffenheit dass es auf dem Gebrauchtmarkt
geschätzt werden, doch leider kann der verschiedene Tierfiguren gibt, die mit
Kalkulator diese Funktion nicht erfüllen. dem Ny Form-Etikett versehen sind.

Man sollte nicht vergessen, dass der
Kalkulator lediglich einen Richtpreis
berechnet, der auf den oben
präsentierten Faktoren basiert. Im
Grunde sind es die Kräfte des Marktes,
die wirklich über den Wert eines
Sammlerstücks entscheiden – welche
Summe sind die Sammler gewillt, für
einen Troll zu bezahlen.
Da es eine Reihe von Gründen gibt,
warum Trolle so beliebte Sammlerobjekte
geworden sind, kursieren wahrscheinlich
auch verschiedene, subjektive Ansichten
über den Wert von Trollen. Für manche
Leute ist es wichtig, dass ein Troll gut
aussieht, für andere ist entscheidend, dass
er eine Seltenheit ist und man ihn nicht in
jedem beliebigen Geschäft kaufen kann.
Weiterhin ist zu bedenken, dass der
Ny Form Troll-Online Kalkulator erst
kürzlich entwickelt und veröffentlicht
wurde. Es könnte sein, dass Korrekturen
bezüglich der Einflussnahme einzelner
Faktoren auf den Gesamtwert notwendig
werden. Der Kalkulator wird in Zukunft
mit historischen Daten über die Trolle auf
den neusten Stand gebracht und auch die
Hilfe-Funktion soll verbessert werden.

challenge of creating new
Ny Form troll models,
drawing on their great
respect and admiration
for the work of Ny Form
founder Trygve Torgersen.
“We are very happy to have the
opportunity to work with trolls, because
we’ve always been very interested in
them.” Signe also swears that she saw
a troll when she was a little girl. Her
mother has told her that she once came
running angrily in to her mother, saying
that a troll boy had laughed at her. Her

childhood home is situated at the edge of
a forest, and it was when she was taking
care of her rabbits that the troll youngster
supposedly interrupted her by sneering at
her before he bounded into the forest.
Signe received her degree in design
and modeling from the Oslo National
Academy of the Arts, the same institute
where Trygve Torgersen studied. She
both sketches and models trolls, working
together with the manufacturer Ny Form.
Together with her husband Robert, Signe
has brought to life the last seven trolls
(as seen here), and there are more on
the way.
“We like working on facial
expressions, and spend a lot of time
on them. We see trolls everywhere

when we are out for a walk in the woods
with our dogs, and find inspiration and
ideas for new trolls in nature. There’s
no question that the trolls have quite
a strong influence on our marriage:
sometimes in the middle of the night
Robert will wake me and say ‘Signe,
Signe, I have an idea!’ Then we get out
the sketch block and make a nice cup of
tea,” explains a lively and enthusiastic
troll-lover.
They also told us that they work on the
same model simultaneously. “We may be
sitting and looking at what we’re working
on, and then suddenly one of us will see
that something needs to be done in such
and such a way – and then we make the
changes together.”
They have in common that from
childhood both were taught to respect
nature and those who live in it. For both
of their families have always had the
firm conviction that there are creatures,
such as trolls, who live in nature but who
keep themselves hidden from us humans.
For example, Robert’s grandmother
met Huldra several times, while she was
working as a dairymaid in the mountains.
And from her Robert learned that one
should speak respectfully of the trolls, just
in case you might be overheard …

- Wir sind sehr froh darüber, dass
wir mit Trollen arbeiten dürfen, da
wir uns schon immer sehr für sie
interessiert haben. Signe ist außerdem
hundertprozentig davon überzeugt,
dass sie als Kind einen echten Troll
getroffen hat. Nach den Berichten
ihrer Mutter kam Signe eines Tages
wütend angelaufen und erzählte, ein
Trolljunge habe sie ausgelacht. Dies
geschah angeblich, als Signe in der
Nähe ihres Elternhauses am Waldrand
ihre Kaninchen fütterte. Ein Trolljunge
delle Arti di Oslo, lo stesso istituto dove
studiò Trygve Torgersen. Progetta e
modella i Troll, in collaborazione con
il produttore Ny Form. Insieme a suo
marito Robert, Signe ha dato vita agli
ultimi sette modelli di Troll (come potete
vedere) e ne sta progettando altri.
“Ci piace lavorare sulla loro espressione e
passare molto tempo con loro. Vediamo
Troll dappertutto quando passeggiamo
per i boschi con i nostri cani e troviamo
ispirazione e idee per i nuovi Troll nella
natura. Non c’è dubbio che i Troll hanno
una forte influenza anche sul nostro
matrimonio: a volte nel bel mezzo della
notte Robert mi sveglia e mi dice ‘Signe,
Signe, ho un’idea!’ Allora tiriamo fuori il
libro degli schizzi e mentre disegniamo, ci
facciamo una bella tazza di té” – Questo
ci racconta una brillante ed entusiasta
amante dei Troll.
Ci hanno detto inoltre, che lavorano sullo
stesso modello contemporaneamente.
“Magari siamo lì seduti ad osservare il
nostro lavoro e all’improvviso uno di noi
kam, lachte sie höhnisch aus und
verschwand dann wieder im Wald.
Signe hat ihre Ausbildung zur
Zeichner- und Modelliererin an der
Kunst- und Handwerksschule in Oslo
absolviert. Diese Schule besuchte auch
Trygve Torgersen zu seiner Zeit. In
Zusammenarbeit mit Ny Form skizziert
und modelliert sie Trolle. Signe und ihr
Mann Robert haben die letzten sieben
Trolle entworfen (hier zu sehen), und
weitere sind in Arbeit.
- Wir arbeiten besonders häufig und
gerne mit Gesichtsausdrücken. Wenn wir
mit unseren Hunden im Wald spazieren
gehen, sehen wir überall Trolle. In der
freien Natur finden wir Inspiration und
Ideen für neue Entwürfe. Es herrscht
kein Zweifel darüber, dass die Trolle
unsere Ehe stark beeinflussen: Mitten
in der Nacht kann Robert plötzlich
aufwachen und sagen “Signe, Signe,
ich habe eine Idee!”. Und dann gilt es,
den Skizzenblock und eine gute Tasse

Tutti e due sono stati educati al
rispetto della natura e dei suoi abitanti:
entrambe le loro famiglie hanno
la ferma convinzione che ci sono
creature, come i Troll, che vivono nella
natura ma si nascondono a noi umani.
Per esempio, la nonna di Robert ha
incontrato Huldra molte volte, quando
accudiva le mucche in montagna. Da
lei Robert ha imparato che si deve
parlare con rispetto dei Troll, casomai
ti dovessero sentire .....

Weiterhin erfahren wir, dass beide oft
gleichzeitig an einem Modell arbeiten.
– Wir können zusammensitzen
und unsere Arbeit betrachten und
dann kann einer von uns plötzlich
bemerken, dass hier oder da eine
Kleinigkeit verändert werden muss,
und das machen wir dann gemeinsam.
Beide sind von Kindheit an dazu
erzogen worden, die Natur als
Lebensraum zu respektieren. In
ihren Familien herrschte immer die
Überzeugung vor, dass es Wesen
gibt, wie zum Beispiel Trolle, die
zwar in der Natur leben, sich aber
vor uns Menschen versteckt halten.
Als sie noch Sennerin auf einer Alm
war, hat Roberts Oma angeblich
mehrmals Huldra getroffen. Von seiner
Oma hat Robert gelernt, dass man
grundsätzlich mit Respekt von Trollen
sprechen sollte, damit man kein Unheil
heraufbeschwört.

In the month of May the last winner of the competition went
to visit the Land of the Trolls (Mrs. and Mr. Blanc to Aosta in
the picture). The competition has been organized by SECOT, the
Italian Ny Form Distributor. They offered prizes to all the shops
and the collectors who bought the Troll Club 2002/2003 from
the 3rd of March 2002 to the 30th of April 2004. The prizes,
including travels to Norway and many models of trolls, were
drawn among more than 1.400 customers.

Nel mese di maggio gli ultimi vincitori del concorso Trollectors
hanno visitato la Terra dei Troll (sono i signori Blanc di Aosta nella

SIm Mai besuchte der Gewinner des letzten Preisausschreibens das
Land der Trolle (Herr und Frau Blanc aus Aosta). Das Preisausschreiben
wurde von SECOT, dem italienischen Vertreiber von Ny Form
durchgeführt. Jedes Geschäft und jeder Sammler, der den Klub-Troll
2002/03 zwischen dem 3. März 2002 und dem 30. April 2004 gekauft
hatte, hatte die Möglichkeit, einen Preis zu gewinnen. Die Preise, unter
anderem Reisen nach Norwegen und verschiedene Trolle, wurden
unter den 1.400 Kunden gezogen. Hier kommt die komplette Liste der

in lungo e in largo, in Norvegia, per

Siamo affascinati dai diversi paesi, dalle

uno o due Troll; adesso ne abbiamo 35

Joop Cleine writes a lot to me,

himself. I have asked him what he
makes his trollcaves of and how he
works with them.

Wel, what I use is little twigs and
different kinds of moss. The stairs is also
made by small twigs, but the shelves are
made of board which I have decorated
with moss and twigs.

I enjoy this work so much
that I don’t care if it takes
all night, or as with my big
trollcaves, a couple of weeks,
four weeks every evening!

Gli ho chiesto di cosa sono fatte e in che
modo le ha costruite. Joop è certamente un
grande appassionato di Troll, vi consiglio

Per la costruzione ho usato piccoli ramos-
celli e differenti tipi di muschio. Ho
utilizzato i ramoscelli anche per le scale,
mentre gli scaffali sono fatti di assi decorate
con rami e muschio. Anche il ponte sospeso,
che va dalla struttura più alta alla vecchia
caverna, è in legno. Ho iniziato questo
lavoro avendo già un’idea precisa di quello
che sarebbe diventato, e mi sono divertito
un sacco a farlo. Ho parlato a tutti del
mio progetto, ma nessuno era riuscito ad
immaginarsi come sarebbe stato prima di
vederlo finito. Almeno però è piaciuto! Mi
è piaciuto così tanto costruirlo che non mi
importava se ci voleva tutta la notte, o,
come per le caverne grandi, tutte le sere per
quattro settimane! Vedete, così lavoro io,

Joop Cleine schreibt mir sehr oft und schickt
mir außerdem Bilder von seinen Troll-
Höhlen, die er selbst gemacht hat. Ich habe
ihn gefragt, wie und woraus er seine Troll-
Höhlen eigentlich baut. Die Antwort und
seine Internet- Adresse erfahrt Ihr in seinem
Brief. Da Joop ein echter Trollliebhaber ist,
kann ich seine Homepage nur wärmstens
empfehlen.

Ja, ich verarbeite kleine Zweige und
verschiede Arten von Moosen. Die Treppen
habe ich zum Beispiel aus kleinen Zweigen
gemacht, die Regale sind aus Brettern, die
ich mit Moos und Ästen dekoriert habe.
Außerdem habe ich eine Hängebrücke
gebaut, die vom obersten Regalbrett bis
zu der alten Höhle aus Holz führt. Der
Ausgangspunkt für meine Arbeit war eine
Idee, die ich dann nach und nach in die
Realität umgesetzt habe. Dieser Prozess hat
mir große Freude bereitet. Bevor ich mit
der eigentlichen Arbeit begonnen habe,
wusste ich bereits, wie die Höhlen zum
Schluss aussehen sollten. Wenn ich meiner
Freundin oder anderen Leuten von meinen
Plänen erzählt habe, konnten sie sich
nicht vorstellen, wie das Resultat aussehen
würde. Doch jetzt gefällt es ihnen!
Die Arbeit an den Höhlen bereitet mir so
viel Freude, dass Zeit keine Rolle spielt:
Egal, ob ich eine ganze Nacht beschäftigt
bin oder - so wie bei der großen Troll-
Höhle - vier Wochen lang jeden Abend!
So arbeite ich halt, wenn ich erst eine Idee

I was asked by a very nice an sweet
lady to write you this letter. And if
you asked, she has the biggest and
the nicest Troll-shop that I know: “
De Vijgeboom”!
I was shocked when I heard that you
thought that the Trolls are not very
known in Belgium. I will prove you
otherwise.
First in Gent, the capital of East-
Flanders, there is a small, mysterious
and romantic pub that is named “Den
Trollenkelder”. And believe it or not,
this pub is runed by a couple with Ny
Form Trolls. You can also drink Troll-
bear and eat snacks of the Trolls.
While you can read about the Trolls.
This pub is so famous here in Flanders,
that you have to shove on before you
find a seat.
De Vijgeboom
My first Ny Form Troll number 117 has
been bought by my mother in 1982 on
a childrens-fair. I was 9 years old and
at that time I didn’t know that it was a
troll. But it became the enemy of the
well known smurfs, those little bleu
men with white trousers and heads.
Like you can see in the little cage, the
smurfs are still loved by the Trolls, to
change metal into gold (according to
the formula of the stone of wisdom).
In 1986 was the first time that I’ve
visited your beautiful country. Where
I can find peace and enjoy, the clear
air, nature and water. That was when
I have discovered that the little man at
my home was a Troll. And from that
time, I gave them all my love. During
that holiday we bought two new
Trolls.
During the years 1987, ‘94, ‘96 and ‘97,
I have been visiting Norway, and from
time more Trolls came to Belgium. At
that time I had a total of 12 Ny Form
Trolls.
In 1999, I found a Troll-shop near my
house, but in the beginning of 2001, the
owner sold his shop to open an sauna.

I was desperate and began my search to
Trolls-shops. At least in 2002, I found “De
Vijgeboom”. The owner (the nice lady) of
this shop loves Trolls as much as I do. She
even searched for me Troll-clubs of ‘97, ‘98
and ‘99 and she found them.
At that moment I have 101 Ny Form Trolls
in my house, as you can see on the pictures.
In the years ‘30 till ‘80, my house was a
pub in a little village, so my Trolls have the
perfect cellar to make brandy.
To me the Trolls are holy, so look out
to everyone, who wants to hurt them!!
Even my wife has to live with them and
sometimes she gets desperate. Even she
comes second. They give me rest and I can
talk to them when I don’t feel well. It would
be sad if there where no Trolls or Troll-
magazines anymore.
I wanted also to ask you if there were still
postcard made with Trolls on it? (Answer:
Not at the moment but we are thinking of it)
I hope now that you are convinced that
there are also in Belgium a lot of Troll-lovers.

Sono rimasto scioccato quando mi hai detto che pensavi che
in Belgio i Troll non fossero tanto conosciuti. Ti proverò il
contrario.
Per cominciare, nella città di Gent, la capitale delle Fiandre
dell’est, c’è un piccolo, misterioso e romantico pub che si
chiama “Den Trollenkelder”. Che tu ci creda o no, questo
pub è gestito da una coppia che ha i Troll Ny Form. Qui
puoi bere la birra dei Troll, mangiare il cibo dei Troll.
Questo pub è talmente famoso nelle Fiandre che devi
spingere per entrare.
Mia mamma comprò il mio primo Troll, il numero 117, nel
1982 ad una fiera per bambini. Avevo nove anni e non
sapevo che quello fosse un Troll; lui divenne il nemico dei
famosissimi puffi, quei piccoli uomini con il corpo blu.
Come si può vedere nella piccola gabbia, i puffi sono
ancora amati dai Troll, perché trasformano il metallo in oro
(secondo la formula della pietra della saggezza).
Nel 1986 ho visitato per la prima volta la tua splendida
nazione; ho trovato pace, aria pulita e natura
incontaminata. Durante quel viaggio ho anche scoperto che
quel piccolo uomo che avevo a casa era un Troll, e da quel
giorno, gli ho riservato tutto il mio amore. Durante quella
vacanza abbiamo comprato due nuovi Troll.
Durante gli anni 1987, ’94, ’96 e ’97, sono tornato in
Norvegia e ogni volta rientravo in Belgio con altri Troll.
All’epoca avevo collezionato 12 Troll Ny Form.
Nel 1999 ho scoperto un negozio di Troll vicino a casa mia,
ma all’inizio del 2001 il proprietario ha venduto il negozio
per aprire una sauna.
Ero disperato così ho iniziato la ricerca di un altro negozio di
Troll; finalmente, nel 2002 ho trovato “De Vijgeboom”. La

Zuerst war ich geschockt, als ich hörte, dass es Leute gibt, die
glauben, Trolle seien ein eher unbekanntes Phänomen in Belgien.
Ich werde Euch das Gegenteil beweisen.
In Gent zum Beispiel, der Hauptstadt von Ost-Flandern, liegt
eine kleine, mysteriöse und romantische Kneipe namens “Der
Trollkeller”. Und glaubt es oder nicht: Diese Kneipe wird von
einem Paar betrieben, das Ny Form Trolle sammelt. Man kann
dort Troll-Bier trinken und Troll-Snacks essen, während man eine
spannende Troll-Lektüre genießt. Diese Kneipe ist so berühmt in
Flandern, dass man drängeln muss, wenn man überhaupt einen
Platz bekommen will.
Meine Mutter hat mir 1982 meinen ersten Ny Form Troll, Nr. 117,
auf einem Markt für Kinder gekauft. Ich war neun Jahre alt und
wusste noch gar nicht, was ein Troll eigentlich ist. Schnell machte
er den Schlümpfen, diesen kleinen blauen Männchen mit weißen
Hosen und Mützen, Konkurrenz.
Wie ihr in dem kleinen Käfig seht, werden die Schlümpfe noch
heute von den Trollen geliebt, da sie Metall in Gold verwandeln
können (nach der Rezeptur des Steins der Weisheit).
1986 war ich zum ersten Mal in Norwegen. Dort konnte ich Ruhe
und Erholung finden und gleichzeitig saubere Luft, wunderschöne
Natur und reines Wasser genießen. Damals habe ich entdeckt, dass
der kleine Mann in meinem Haus ein Troll war. Seitdem liebe ich
die Trolle. Natürlich habe ich in diesem Urlaub sofort zwei Trolle
gekauft.
In den Jahren 1987, ‘94, ‘96 und ‘97 habe ich Norwegen besucht
proprietaria (la graziosa ragazza) del negozio ama i Troll
come me, io cercavo i Troll-club del 1997, ’98, e ’99 e lei me li
ha trovati.
Adesso nella mia casa ci sono 101 Ny Form Troll, come puoi
vedere nelle foto.
Per me i Troll sono sacri, quindi state attenti a non irritarli!!!
Perfino mia moglie, a volte si dispera perché viene al secondo
posto. I Troll mi sostengono e io ci parlo quando non mi sento
bene. Sarebbe molto triste se non ci fossero più Troll e i Troll-
magazines.
A proposito: esitono anche delle cartoline con i Troll?
(risposta: non più, ma stiamo pensando di rifarle).
Spero di averti convinta che anche in Belgio ci sono molti
amanti dei Troll.

Damals hatte ich insgesamt 12 Ny Form Trolle.
Im Jahre 1999 entdeckte ich ein Troll-Geschäft in der Nähe meines
Hauses, doch Anfang 2001 verkaufte der Besitzer den Laden und
eröffnete eine Sauna.
Ich war verzweifelt und begab mich auf die Suche nach anderen
Troll-Geschäften.
Im Jahre 2002 fand ich endlich „De Vijgeboom“. Die Besitzerin des
Ladens (eine sehr nette Frau) liebt Trolle genauso sehr wie ich. Sie
hat mir sogar die Klub-Trolle von 1997, ’98 und ’99 besorgt.
Wie Ihr auf den Bildern sehen könnt, wohnen im Moment 101 Ny
Form Trolle bei mir zu Hause.
Zwischen 1930 und 1980 war eine kleine Dorfkneipe in meinem
Haus, deshalb können die Trolle heute in meinem Keller
hervorragend Weinbrand brennen.
Für mich sind die Trolle heilig. Jeder, der ihnen Schaden
zufügen will, sollte sich in Acht nehmen!! Sogar meine Frau muss
akzeptieren, dass sie nur an zweiter Stelle kommt; manchmal findet
sie mich wirklich hoffnungslos. Die Trolle geben mir Ruhe, und ich
kann mit ihnen sprechen, wenn es mir nicht gut geht. Ich wäre sehr
traurig, wenn es keine Trolle oder kein Troll-Magazin mehr gäbe.
Außerdem wollte ich fragen, ob es immer noch diese Ansichtskarten
mit Trollen gibt? (Antwort: Im Augenblick nicht, aber wir behalten
die Idee im Hinterkopf).
Ich hoffe, ich konnte Euch davon überzeugen, dass es auch in
Belgien eine Menge Trollliebhaber gibt.
