Over the last few years there has been a drop in the number of State educated students going

to university
in the UK. The main reason for this is an increase in the cost of studying at British universities. People
anticipate that it will take years to repay a student loan which is the money you borrow to pay for
university education. This is causing anxiety amongst young people and it's making a song students choose
a different path for the future.
that's right I'll be going into school at 10 a.m. to get my exam results and I'm dreading it.
what are you planning to do in the coming months?
I was planning to go to university in September but I changed my mind because of the soaring cost of a
degree I'm going to take a gap year instead and I might go to uni in a year's time.
there's been a rise in the number of students taking gap years instead of going directly to university.
what do people do on a gap year?
it varies some people will stay in the UK and maybe get a job but no still travel abroad and do some
voluntary work. I'm going backpacking India and then I'm going to Madagascar where I'll be spending 4
weeks volunteering on a wildlife conservation Project, I hope to work with animals someday.
what will you have gained by the time you come back?
well I've seen a bit of the world and hopefully met lots of interesting people my confidence will have
increased I'm sure but most of all I would have the chance to decide whether I really do want to borrow
thousands of pounds in order to study in the coming years. whatever I decide to do I know I'll be a better
person after my gap year.

Negli ultimi anni c'è stato un calo nel numero di studenti con istruzione statale che vanno all'università nel
Regno Unito. La ragione principale di ciò è un aumento del costo degli studi nelle università britanniche. La
gente prevede che ci vorranno anni per rimborsare un prestito studentesco che è il denaro che prendi in
prestito per pagare l'istruzione universitaria. Questo sta causando ansia tra i giovani e sta facendo sì che
una canzone gli studenti scelgano una strada diversa per il futuro. E’ vero che andrò a scuola alle 10 del
mattino per ottenere i risultati degli esami e ne ho paura.
cosa hai intenzione di fare nei prossimi mesi?
Avevo intenzione di andare all'università a settembre, ma ho cambiato idea a causa del costo vertiginoso di
una laurea, invece prenderò un anno sabbatico e potrei andare all'università tra un anno.
C’è stato un aumento del numero di studenti che prendono anni sabbatici invece di andare direttamente
all'università.
cosa fanno le persone in un anno sabbatico?
varia, alcune persone rimarranno nel Regno Unito e forse troveranno un lavoro ma non si recheranno
ancora all'estero e faranno del volontariato. Vado in India con lo zaino in spalla e poi in Madagascar, dove
trascorrerò 4 settimane facendo volontariato in un progetto di conservazione della fauna selvatica, spero di
lavorare con gli animali un giorno.
cosa avrai guadagnato quando tornerai?
beh, ho visto un po' di mondo e spero di aver incontrato molte persone interessanti, la mia fiducia sarà
aumentata, sono sicuro, ma soprattutto avrei la possibilità di decidere se voglio davvero prendere in
prestito migliaia di sterline per poter studiare negli anni in futuro. qualunque cosa decida di fare, so che
sarò una persona migliore dopo il mio anno sabbatico.
