Get:
Get solitamente dignifica “ottenere” Es: I got the job I've been dreaming of for a long time. Però
può assumere significati diversi:
- Prendere: She gets the train to work every day. Lei prende il treno per lavoro
tutti i giorni.
- Ricevere: Did you get my email yesterday? Hai ricevuto la mia email ieri?
- Comprare: We must get some milk. Dobbiamo comprare del latte.
- Diventare: You can get better at English by practicing. Puoi migliorare in inglese con
la pratica.
- Arrivare: They left at 4.30 and got home at 5.30. Sono andati via alle 4.30 e sono
arrivati a casa alle 5.30.
- Togliere/rimuovere: (get+out of) I can get something out of the wardrobe and any
feeling of insecurity will disappear.
- Avere l’opprtunità di/raggiungere sth: (get+to) You get to support good clauses.
USED TO + infinitive → significa “ero solito” “ero abituato”. Si usa per parlare di abitudini passate o
situazioni/azioni ripetute(passate) che adesso sono cambiate.
NB: Non esiste al presente perché per abitudini presenti si usa usually+presente.
BE USED TO + gerund(ing) → significa “essere abituati a…” e si usa per descrivere azioni che si è o
era soliti fare.
Es: Carlos has lived in London for years he is used to driving on the left.
We are used to going to bed early. Siamo abituati ad andare a letto presto. (presente)
We were used to going to bed early. Eravamo abituati ad andare a letto presto. (passato)
I’m not used to this weather. Non sono abituato a questo clima.
GET USED TO + ing → esprime un’azione alla quale ci si è abituati in passato o che ci si deve ancora
abituare in presente e futuro.
I’ll never get used to working at night. Non mi abituerò mai a lavorare di notte.
