GUARNIZIONI STELO – ROD SEALS
INFORMAZIONI GENERALI
General Information
Gli elementi di tenuta richiedono accorgimenti essenziali
per una corretta installazione.
Guarnizioni installate in modo non corretto possono
incorrere in danneggiamenti o rotture, e non solo
saranno presto da sostituire, ma incideranno
notevolmente sul calo di rendimento dell’intero impianto.
Istruzioni specifiche di montaggio delle guarnizioni sono
disponibili per ogni tipologia di guarnizione.
Si consiglia tuttavia, in fase di installazione, per qualsiasi
tipologia di guarnizione, di osservare scrupolosamente i
seguenti accorgimenti generali:
Rispettare le tolleranze dimensionali e le finiture
superficiali consigliate negli specifici cataloghi
Eseguire l’installazione delle guarnizioni a temperatura
ambiente 20/25 °C
Oliare la guarnizione e le parti metalliche per facilitare il
montaggio
Nel caso di montaggio di guarnizioni in PTFE,
preriscaldare ad una temperatura di 30/50 °C
Accertarsi che tutti gli spigoli vivi sulle parti metalliche
siano stati smussati e arrotondati
Fare in modo che eventuali creste di filettature siano
coperte
Non utilizzare attrezzi acuminati per il montaggio
Pulire accuratamente le parti metalliche, eliminando
ogni particella estranea, asportando eventuali residui di
lavorazione o trucioli prima di procedere
In caso di guarnizione mono-direzionale controllare che
il verso della tenuta sia correttamente orientato
rispetto alla direzione del fluido in pressione
In caso di installazione di O-Ring prestare attenzione al
fine di evitare attorcigliamenti
Evitare che l’elemento di tenuta rimanga deformato a
lungo durante le operazioni di montaggio
The sealing elements require essential measures for
correct installation. If the installation is not carried out
correctly, the seals can be damaged or broken and will
soon need to be replaced, causing a significant drop in
the performance of the entire system.
Specific assembly instructions are available for each type
of seal.
During the installation phase, for any type of seal it is
advisable to observe the following general points :
Respect dimensions, tolerances and surface finishes
recommended in the specific catalogs
Install at room temperature 20/25 °C
Oil the seal and all metal parts for easy assembly
In case of PTFE seals installation, preheat to a
temperature of 30/50 °C
Check all the sharp edges on the metal parts have been
smoothed and rounded
Make sure that any thread crests are covered
Do not use sharp tools for assembly
Clean the metal parts, eliminate any foreign particles,
removing any machining residues or shavings before
proceeding
For single-acting seals, take care to install the sealing
element in the correct direction
When installing O-rings, pay attention to avoid kinks
Avoid long time sealing element deformation during
installation

Preliminary Instructions
Tipologie di guarnizioni differenti, possono necessitare di
diverse modalità di installazione.
Tali modalità possono dipendere, ad esempio, dalla
sezione della guarnizione, dal materiale o dai diametri.
Le guarnizioni in Gomma o in Poliuretano, generalmente
realizzate in unico pezzo, possono essere installate per
deformazione o allungamento. Le guarnizioni in PTFE,
generalmente bi-composte, necessitano di maggiori
accortezze.
In caso di diametri ridotti suggeriamo, dove possibile, di
utilizzare dimensioni della sezione quanto più piccole
possibile, per poter semplificare il montaggio ed evitare
danneggiamenti.
Risulta inoltre di fondamentale importanza la
realizzazione di adeguati smussi di invito, dimensionati
come da schede tecniche prodotti ATS.
SMUSSI DI INVITO
Lead-in chamfers
Nella progettazione delle componenti metalliche, è molto
importante prevedere la presenza di opportuni smussi di
invito, con bordi arrotondati e privi di bave taglienti. Tali
smussi semplificano il montaggio evitando il
danneggiamento delle guarnizioni. Il dimensionamento
degli smussi di invito dipende principalmente da
caratteristiche della guarnizione quali: dimensioni,
materiale, tipologia di profilo e dalla sezione della
guarnizione, ed è indicato nel catalogo di ogni articolo
ATS.
Nel caso in cui non fosse possibile realizzare smussi di
invito delle corrette dimensioni, si suggerisce l’utilizzo di
coni di montaggio, adeguatamente dimensionati,
possibilmente realizzati in materiali plastici, con superfici
a bassa rugosità.

Different types of seals may require different installation
methods.
The installation methods may depend, for example, on
the section of the seals, on the material or on the
diameters.
The Rubber or Polyurethane seals, generally made in a
single piece, can be installed by deformation or
elongation. The PTFE seals, generally composite from
more parts, require more attention.
In the case of small diameter seals we suggest, where
possible, to use the smallest possible section dimensions,
in order to simplify assembly and avoid damage.
It is of fundamental importance the realization of suitable
bevels, sized according to the technical data sheets of
the ATS products.
In the design of the metal parts, it is very important to
provide for the presence of suitable lead-in chamfers,
with rounded edges and free of sharp burrs.
These chamfers simplify assembly avoiding damage to
the seals. The sizing of the chamfers depends on the
characteristics of the seal such as: dimensions, material,
type of profile and the section of the seal, and is
indicated in the catalog of each ATS article.
If it is not possible to create the correct size bevels, we
suggest the use of mounting cones, suitably sized,
possibly made of plastic materials, with low roughness
surfaces.

Installation – Rod seals
MONTAGGIO IN SEDE APERTA
L’installazione in sede aperta è sicuramente il sistema di
montaggio più semplice. Nel caso di guarnizioni bi-
composte, si procede posizionando l’anello O-Ring sul
fondo della sede, evitando attorcigliamenti dello stesso,
successivamente si procede ad installare l’anello di
tenuta in PTFE.
Per le guarnizioni monodirezionali, avere cura del
corretto verso di installazione.
Una volta effettuato l’assemblaggio delle parti metalliche,
effettuare l’assestamento e ricalibratura della guarnizione
infilando lo stelo, purché dotato di appropriato smusso di
imbocco, o idonea attrezzatura dotata di un lungo
smusso di imbocco. Questo tipo di montaggio,
consigliato per guarnizioni di diametri ridotti o
posizionate in punti critici, semplifica le operazioni di
montaggio; come contro, necessita un design delle parti
metalliche più complesso.
MONTAGGIO IN SEDE CHIUSA
Il montaggio delle guarnizioni per stelo in sede chiusa è
sconsigliato per diametri inferiori ai 30 mm.
Nel caso di diametri ridotti, è comunque consigliato
l’impiego di guarnizioni di sezione quanto minore
possibile, per facilitarne il montaggio.
L’operazione di installazione dovrà osservare la seguente
procedura, che serve da esempio per guarnizioni bi-
composte:
1 Calzare l’anello O-Ring sul fondo della sede, avendo
cura di liberarlo dalle tensioni di attorcigliamento.
INSTALLATION IN OPEN GROOVE
Installation in open groove is the most simple method.

INSTALLATION IN CLOSED GROOVE
Installation of rod seals in closed groove is not
recommended for diameters smaller than 30 mm.
In the case of small diameters applications, it is
recommended the use of seals with the smallest section
to facilitate assembly.
The installation operation must observe the following
