In genere l’avverbio di frequenza si mette subito prima del verbo
principale.

A: Do you often go out?

A: Esci spesso?

B: I don’t often go out during the week

but I always go out on Saturday night.

B: Non esco spesso durante la settimana,

ma il sabato sera esco sempre.

Tuttavia si mette dopo il verbo be, gli ausiliari e i verbi modali.

You are always hungry!

Hai sempre fame!

Is Pete never on time?

Pete non è mai puntuale?

I can never take a holiday.

Non posso mai andare in vacanza.

Nota l’uso di never (‘non… mai’) e ever (‘mai’). A differenza

dall’italiano, never si usa con un verbo affermativo. In presenza di
un verbo negativo, invece, si usa ever.

Sally never wears skirts.

Oppure: Sally doesn’t ever wear skirts.

Sally non porta mai le gonne.

Ever si usa anche quando il verbo è in forma interrogativa.

Do you ever shop at Waitrose?

Fai mai la spesa da Waitrose?
