COSA NE PENSI DELLA PENA DI MORTE

In molti Paesi del mondo si pensa che sia ancora giusto punire chi
commette alcune colpe gravissime con la morte. Su questo argomento le
persone si dividono con due opinioni opposte. Chi pensa che la pena di
morte è una giusta punizione e ritiene che l’unico modo per fare giustizia
verso chi abbia commesso gravi crimini sia questo.
E al contrario di chi ritiene che la pena di morte sia sbagliata, cioè che
tutti nella vita hanno diritto ad una seconda possibilità e che non c’è
cosa più sbagliata che punire un delitto con un altro delitto. Io sono
d’accordo con chi la pensa in questo modo cioè che chi punisce con la
morte diventa sua volta un assassino anche lui, e con lui anche tutte le
persone che non si oppongono a queste barbarie e di conseguenza anche
i Presidenti dei vari Stati che ancora permettono che si utilizzi questa
forma di condanna.
Ovviamente nel mondo ci sono persone che compiono atti davvero
terribili e si macchiano di colpe gravissime, e quando sento cose di
questo genere al telegiornale penso sempre alle famiglie delle vittime
che sicuramente meritano una giustizia completa e duratura.
A parer mio queste famiglie, forse, potrebbero sentirsi meglio se
sapessero che i criminali che hanno ucciso un loro caro sono stati puniti
con il massimo della pena, ma credo anche che nel concetto di giustizia
non rientra la pena di morte, che è proprio il contrario.
L’unica cosa veramente giusta che un Paese civilizzato può fare è quello
di sistemare il proprio sistema carcerario e fare in modo che i criminali
restino in carcere davvero per tutto il tempo della condanna.
Purtroppo invece, soprattutto in Italia, sento spesso che molti vengono
liberati prima del tempo stabilito o che le pene che vengono inflitte non
sono direttamente proporzionali al crimine commesso. In carcere poi i
delinquenti hanno anche la possibilità di essere riabilitati, con questo
potrebbero imparare un mestiere e una volta usciti essere utili alla
società a cui tanti anni prima hanno fatto un gravissimo torto. Solo così
non si sprecherebbero tantissime vite umane. In conclusione spero che
la pena di morte venga abolita al più presto.

In many countries around the world people still think it is right to punish
those who commit some very serious crimes with death. On this issue
people are divided with two opposing opinions. Those who think that the
death penalty is a just punishment and believe that the only way to do
justice toward those who have committed serious crimes is this.
And on the contrary those who think that the death penalty is wrong,
that is, everyone in life is entitled to a second chance and that there is
no thing more wrong than punishing one crime with another crime. I
agree with those who think this way,
 that is, that those who punish with death become in turn murderers
themselves, and with them also all the people who do not oppose these
barbarities and consequently also the presidents of the various states
who still allow this form of sentencing to be used.
Obviously there are people in the world who do really terrible acts and
are guilty of very serious crimes, and when I hear things like this on the
news I always think of the families of the victims who surely deserve full
and lasting justice.
In my opinion, perhaps these families might feel better if they knew that
the criminals who killed a loved one were punished to the fullest extent
of the law, but I also believe that the concept of justice does not include
the death penalty, which is just the opposite.
The only truly just thing a civilized country can do is to fix its prison
system and make sure that criminals really stay in prison for the entire
time of their sentence.
Unfortunately, instead, especially in Italy, I often hear that many people
are released before their appointed time or that the sentences that are
imposed are not directly proportional to the crime committed. In prison
then, offenders also have the chance to be rehabilitated, with this they
could learn a trade and once they get out be useful to the society they
so many years earlier wronged. Only in this way would so many lives not
be wasted. In conclusion, I hope that the death penalty will be abolished
as soon as possible.
