vengono usate come protezione
anticaduta e soddisfano i requisiti

gehren zu den vielfltigsten Anwendungen fr X-TEND. Das flexible

Balustrades for paths and bridges

are one of the most diverse areas
of implementation for X-TEND. The
flexible steel cable net is striking
thanks to its top-quality, threedimensional stability and its elegant
transparency and floating lightness.
The constructions are used as fall
protection and fulfil building requirements of being able to follow the
temperature-specific movements of
bridges.
Balustrade infill consists of two
strong parallel tensioning ropes or
tubes, onto which the steel cable net
is installed on site. The ropes can
either be fixed or loose in the
clamps. Alternatively, balustrade
infill consists of covered frameworks
which are either custom-made or
come in standard formats.

The 40-metre-high tower, created

The dancing fountain on the Rhine

has enjoyed cult status in Cologne
since the sixties. The unusual rondel
in the water is covered by a roof
in a star formation, designed by the

Ideata come costruzione a porticato, la residenza studentesca

mostra il suo carattere vitale con i
suoi viottoli perimetrali. Al posto di
parapetti o mura, l'edificio stato

sia di messa a verde. Le linee architettoniche pulite e l'aspetto allegro
della seconda facciata coperta di
piante, si integrano tra loro creando
un vivace luogo di comunicazione e
di scambi.
Als Laubenganghaus konzipiert,
zeigt das Studentenwohnheim mit
seinen umlaufenden Wegen einen
vitalen Charakter. Statt Gelnder
oder Mauern bekam das Haus einen
X-TEND berwurf gleichermaen

La miniera di carbone nero a

cielo aperto, vecchia di 100 anni, si
trasforma in un'opera d'arte paesaggistica e la torre di livello al centro varia in altezza secondo il livello
dell'acqua. L'architettura flottante
alta 27 metri con doppie scale elicoidali contrapposte evidenzia il
cambiamento dell'era industriale.
Come protezione dalle cadute, la
rete X-TEND stata applicata sopra
la torre come una gigantesca calza.
I 370 metri quadrati della rete prefabbricata sono stati annodati e
messi in tensione sul posto in pochi
giorni.

The floating structure, consisting of a

un'altezza di 42 metri stato progettato un sistema innovativo che collega i cavi in acciaio inox a schema
quadrato, rispecchiando in tal modo
le forme architettoniche. I cavi montati sul posto sono stati installati dapprima in verticale e poi orizzontalmente. Punti di pressione inseriti con
una precisione al decimo di millimetro
servivano per il successivo annodamento con un nodo appositamente
progettato. In nessun punto dei
5.000 mq di rete formata da 70 km
di cavi di acciaio inox con 250.000
nodi, stato trascurato un singolo
angolo retto.

auf der 5.000 qm groen Netzflche
aus 70 km Edelstahlseilen mit
250.000 Seilknoten kam der rechte
Winkel zu Schaden.
An innovative fall protection system was developed for the bridges,
which are up to 42 metres high, linking the stainless steel cables in a
quadratic pattern, thus mirroring the
style of the architecture. Assembled
on site, the cables were first put into
the correct vertical position, before
the horizontal cables were installed.
This was facilitated by the fact that
each cable was marked during production to ensure that subsequent
combination, with a specially developed network junction point, was
accurate to a tenth of a millimetre.
Not once on the entire 5000 m2 net,
made of 70 km of stainless steel
cable with 250,000 knots, was a right
angle ignored.

and rail bridge became a bone of
contention for ships passing underneath. There is, after all, heavy
shipping traffic on the canal which
connects this region rich in water
resources and supplies a hydro-electric power station. The operators

un'ampia valle sull'omonimo fiume
della Foresta Nera. Con una grande
curva il viadotto allontana la strada
statale dal centro storico con le sue
case medioevali. X-TEND, montato
sul ponte, protegge i passanti sulla
strada sotto il viadotto. La rete
stata installata su supporti appositamente disegnati con una lunghezza
di 120 metri e 2,20 metri di altezza.

velocit. Con posti di atterraggio per
eliambulanze, le cliniche e gli ospedali aumentano le possibilit di salvare vite umane. Gli eliporti sono un

and clinics, company buildings, residences and parliamentary buildings
are a sign of just how fast life is
today. For some, it is the comfort of
individual transport which is important; for others, it is the speed.
Clinics and hospitals improve their
chances of saving lives by having
landing pads, making it possible for
helicopters to transport the sick.
Landing pads are another area in
which X-TEND ensures both the
safety and protection of people in
this case both on the pad and
under it. Depending on the building
structure, rectangular or round constructions are used, filled with individual panels or continuous nets.
Resistant to the weather and totally

Al Salone Internazionale dell'Automobile Mercedes-Benz ha presentato

la sua star sotto la cupola del salone
delle feste. La rete si estendeva per

At the IAA, Mercedes-Benz presented its star under the dome of the
festival hall. The net was stretched
over 20 metres between two spirally
winding perimeter tubes with a diameter of 10 metres. For the spiralling surface to be kept smooth, it
was necessary throughout the design
to ensure that the long diagonal of
the mesh always remained vertical.
The custom-made work of art was
quick to assemble at the fair thanks
to precise calculation.

La posizione collinare dello Zoo

Halle apre a due livelli diverse prospettive della recinzione per i mandrilli di circa 280 metri quadrati. Tre
piloni, circondati da cavi sospesi
sostengono l'elemento strutturale
leggero e trasparente che copre la
zona. X-TEND si avvolge sui piloni
come uno scialle. Con un'altezza
fino a 15 metri, la rete offre ai mandrilli un'enorme libert di movimento. Accanto a questa una recinzione
aperta estende l'habitat dei tamarindi. La rete a maglie particolarmente
fini poggiata su archi sale fino a
sette metri di altezza. Cos dalla
casa le scimmie possono accedere
direttamente all'aperto.

Die Hanglage des Zoos Halle ffnet auf zwei Ebenen Perspektiven in
das rund 280 Quadratmeter groe
Mandrillgehege. Das leichte Flchentragwerk mit transparenter Struktur
halten drei Pylone, umfasst von gespannten Seilen. Wie ein Schal legt
sich X-TEND um die Pylone. Den
Mandrill-Affen schafft das Netzwerk
mit einer Hhe von bis zu 15 Metern
enorme Bewegungsfreiheit. Daneben
erweitert ein Freigehege den Lebensraum fr die Krallen-Affen. Das besonders feinmaschige Netz hebt sich
ber Bogentrger sieben Meter hoch.
So gelangen die Affen vom Haus
direkt ins Freie.

The slope in Halle Zoo provides

different views of the 280-squaremetre mandrill enclosure from two
levels. Three pylons, enclosed by
suspended nets, support the lightweight, transparent area-covering
structural element. X-TEND wraps
itself around the pylons like a scarf.
Rising to up to 15 metres, the network offers the mandrills an enormous amount of freedom. Next to
it, an open enclosure extends the
habitat for marmoset monkeys. The
particularly fine-mesh net is seven
metres above ground, suspended
on curved girders. The house thus
allows the monkeys direct access
to the outside.

Un bosco di querce americane,

unico nel suo genere, diventato il
rifugio di molti animali selvatici.
Officium ha progettato uno spazio
completamente racchiuso in reti di
cavi di acciaio con una superficie
utile di 700 metri quadrati per la
famiglia di leopardi e 230 mq per le
iene brune per un'altezza fino a 7
metri per gli alberi su cui arrampicarsi. Per la statica della struttura in
rete gli alberi naturali sono stati integrati con alberi artificiali.

aus amerikanischen Eichen wurde
zur Heimat fr wilde Tiere. Officium
entwickelte dafr ein Heim aus Edelstahlseilnetzen mit 700 Quadratmetern Nutzflche fr die Leopardenfamilie und 230 Quadratmetern fr
die Schabrakenschakale bei einer
Hhe von bis zu 7 Metern fr Kletterbume. Fr die Statik des Netzhauses wurden natrliche Bume um
knstliche ergnzt.

has become home to a number of
wild animals. Officium used stainless
steel cable net to make a house with
700 square metres of usable space
for the leopard family and 230 square
metres for the black-backed jackals.
At a height of 7 metres, this provides

Hauptlast des Daches. Zugleich halten sie die Wnde, ebenfalls geformt
aus X-TEND. Die Ringe umkrnzen
die Bume und tragen durch ihr
Gewicht dazu bei, die genau berechnete Verkrmmung des Netzes zu
formen. Ein Gebilde, das so natrlich
erscheint wie die Lebenswelt der
darin wohnenden Tiere.

stretches over the treetops, reminiscent of a large spiders web. Opposing curvature provides for stability.
A steel ring encloses the treetops
and holds the net. The supports,
distributed evenly over the site, carry
the main load of the roof. At the
same time, they support the walls
which are also made of X-TEND.
The rings crown the trees, sometimes
a little higher, sometimes a little
lower, and their weight helps to create
the precisely calculated curvature
of the net. A picture which seems
as natural as the habitat of the
animals inside.

Lo zoo di Krefeld e i suoi visitatori sono fieri della nuova coppia di

giaguari e del loro habitat. Con un
minimo impiego di materiale, la
recinzione sale fino a 11 metri di
altezza. Sei piloni ben distanziati
portano con eleganza le reti in cavo
di acciaio su tutta la superficie. Una
piattaforma centrale consente inoltre
di osservare gli animali attraverso
una sicura parete di vetro blindato.
Stolz sind der Krefelder Zoo und
seine Besucher auf ihr Jaguarpaar
sowie auf deren Behausung. Minimal im Materialaufwand umschliet
das Gehege eine Hhe von bis zu
elf Metern. Sechs weit gefcherte

Un pilone centrale e altri tre all'esterno della superficie recintata

sostengono la struttura tridimensionale in X-TEND della riserva aperta
verso l'alto. Le reti poggiano completamente libere tra i cavi a anello
orizzontali che sono collegati ai piloni mediante funi di tensione. Si
rinunciato a ulteriori profilati di
acciaio o fastidiosi sostegni a favore
di una visuale illimitata degli animali.
Gli ingegneri X-TEND hanno prestato particolare attenzione alla separazione tra la struttura in acciaio e la

Blicks verzichtet werden.

rete pu essere realizzata in versione
colorata con diversi procedimenti.

in ambienti interni e esterni. Il telaio
in tubi rotondi a forma di rettangoli o
rombi realizzato in acciaio inox,
materiale AISI 316 Ti con diametro
21,3 mm e spessore delle pareti 2,0
mm. Il diametro dei cavi X-TEND di
1,5 o 2 mm, la larghezza delle maglie
di 60 o 80 mm. Sono disponibili a
scelta tre altezze di 720, 840 e
960 mm, nonch lunghezze fino a
3.000 mm.
