My passion for chemistry started when I was a kid; being a curious young girl, I

always want to know more, for example, why do some flowers have green colors
and some others have varieties of colors? Why is it that ethanol and water have
the same physical properties but when I taste? The taste so different in my mouth,
and why would the ethanol will dry faster when exposed to air than water? This
curiosity led me to study chemistry as an undergraduate since I have so many
doubts and questions about so many issues.

Since the beginning of my undergraduate at the University of Ilorin, I had a broad

research interest, I worked on a research topic which is the Chemistry of food and
drink colorants. In this research, I was able to know and identify the different
types of colors used in the food and drinks industries and pharmaceutical
industries. At the end of the research, I found out that in comparison, the synthetic
colorants have significant perceptions of undesirable and harmful effects to
natural ones because natural colorants tend to be perceived by consumers as safer.

My undergraduate final year research was on “synthesis, characterization and

biological studies of mixed antimalaria-vitamin b1 metal complexes, under the
supervision of Professor J.A. OBALEYE (First President of American Chemical
Society of Nigeria). This research was based on the complexation of a common
antimalaria drug Amodiaquine (4-aminoquinoline), with metals. As we all know,
Multi-drug resistance has been developed in most parts of the world, and world
health organizations recommend that combination treatment rather than
monotherapy should be used in areas where multi-drug resistance to Plasmodium
falciparum is a problem (WHO, 2001).

After my undergraduate, I work with a pharmaceutical company, Fidson

healthcare plc, where I was trained on the proper processes involved in
manufacturing and the quality assurance of different types of drugs. And also, I
was able to use different kinds of laboratory machines like UV, NMR, FTIR, and
lots more.

During my University days, I led some extracurricular organizations that shaped

my passions and pursuits in research and teaching in chemistry, and I also got a
lot of answers to my childhood curiosities. Throughout my University career and
the year after, I tutored a broad audience, including my colleagues and juniors, in
many challenging courses like electrochemistry, organic chemistry, and
spectroscopy.

Despite all my research experience, I still want to learn some research skills that
are necessary to garnered through advanced chemistry courses and help me to
achieve the goal of conducting groundbreaking researches and becoming a world-
class researcher. I still need to take some advanced chemistry courses and
research methodology courses while learning core practical research skills in an
intensive laboratory in my early study years. Such methods will provide the
opportunity to learn core practical and research skills that will enable me to
contribute to ongoing research in the lab, as well as bring me closer to achieving
my career goals. I want to gain some classroom experience, which will serve as a
good recipe for my long-term goal of becoming a professor. With the above
vacuum, I believe an MSc. in chemistry in this reputable university, and been
trained under great faculty researchers in this great university will be a good fit
for me to gather the necessary experience to help me achieve my career goals.

My long-term goals are to continue learning through research and expand the
literatures while also working as a faculty lecturing member and nurturing the
young ones. I thoroughly enjoyed the research that I assisted in doing during my
undergraduate, and want to pursue working with and leading a research team of
similarly focused chemists. Finally, I wish that my passion behind these words is
noted for a divine sponsorship and the strength to finish strong as always.
