Normalmente non si usa in riferimento agli oggetti: the back of the car, the end of the film.
Per fare il genitivo sassone di un sostantivo che termina in -s, si aggiunge solo l’apostrofo:
Se invece si tratta di un plurale irregolare, si aggiunge ‘s: the children’s toys / the women’s clothes.
Quando il significato della frase è chiaro, si può usare il genitivo ‘s senza il sostantivo a cui si riferisce:
It’s Bob’s.
He is at his parents’.
Quando la stessa cosa appartiene a due persone, si aggiunge ‘s solo all’ultimo sostantivo:
This is the car of the sister of John = This is John’s sister’s car.
I met the friends of the brothers of Tim = I met Tim’s brothers’ friends.
