Specifications
Checks
Check the conditions of the internal surface of the weights' bus-
hings.
Make sure that bushings' internal diameter does not exceed the
prescribed values. Otherwise, replace them.
Once the bushings have been installed, they should be bored in
order to bring them to the diameter prescribed in the related
specifications table.

Pistons
Pistons are specially forged hypereutectic aluminium-silicone alloy.
The air-fuel mixing chamber machined in the piston crown has a
toroidal shape. Both the part number and reference A (air) are stafl1)ed
on piston top. These represent the piston identification cocte.
Piston rings
Pay particular attention to the identification marks on the piston
rings for correct assembly. Inserting the first or the second piston
ring upside down will result in either uneven engine operation or
serious damage, even though the piston groove is the correct one.
The figure above shows correct installation.
Caution- When replacing piston rings, it is important to check that
the second piston ring is also provided with external "CHROMIUM
PLATED" sealing surface. (This is to avoid installing improper,
non-chromium plated rings belonging to aspirated engines). -

Checking clearance between piston rings and
piston ring grooves in piston ·
This check is to be made with new piston rings, as shown in figure
32, by fitting the piston ring into the groove and then inserting the
blade ofthickness gauge no. 5.9030.270.0. Refer to specifications
table for maximum clearance allowance.
The other piston rings should be inserted with their cuts moved by

Using the following equipment:
Ensure that the piston crown at T.D.C. recesses from the head
gasket bearing surface.
Move the dial gauge base until the gauge feeler lies on the cylinder
surface and take readin~ from the dial.
Place the base so that the gauge feeler lies on the piston head at
T.D.C. and take reading.

Raise the first cylinder piston to upper position; remove the rocker
arm support, remove intake valve spring and drop valve onto
piston head then insert a snap ring into the valve stem.
Fit the timing gear and bring the timing gear marked tooth into
contact with both idler gear marked teeth. Press on the gear
counterclockwise when tightening the securing screws until any
backlash between teeth is taken up.

Rotate the crankshaft to move the 1st cylinder piston into T.D.C.
position (compression stroke end, valves closed) and set the
comparator attached to the valve stem to zero; the same proce-
dure as described in valve timing section shall apply.

Afterwards, rotate the crankshaft in the counterclockwise direction
until a dimension of 2.92 mm and a 16 • injection advance can be
read from comparator dial. Correct positioning takes place when,
while rotating in a counterclockwise direction, the 2.92 mm set
point is exceeded, soon after coming back to such a dimension
through clockwise crankshaft rotation so that any clearances may
be taken up.

Injection pump calibration on the BOSCH test bench
Injection pump calibration is of crucial importance to correct
engine running. Injection pump calibration procedure should be
carried out by specialized workshops provided with the following
BOSCH equipment:

Fuel system
This test is carried out by operating the hand pump until a pressure
reading about 10% lower than the calibration pressure is attained.
Take care that this pressure is maintained by pressing on the hand
pump lever, so as to compensate the pressure drop which other-
wise would be caused by the fuel dripping between pin and nozzle
holder body.

2.1 MEMORY
Having once set the engine to run at a
required speed, by using the accelerator
pedal or pushing the increase [1] or
decrease [2] key, it is then possible to
permanently memorize such values by

pushing the two keys at the same time, ····
as shown in the figure. [this data remains
even if the tractor is switched off]. If the
'H/0' lamp was off, after this operation it
will flash and then tum on; if it was on, it
will tum off for a moment and then tum

on again.
2.2. RECALL

3.1 MEMORY
A 'headland manoeuvring rpm' can be
preset in the following way:
From low idle, pulse the rpm up key [1]
until the required rpm has been set

[1300-1400]. It is possible to
permanently memorize this rpm [this
data remains even if the tractor is
switched off], by pushing the two keys
at the same time, as shown in the
. figure. If the 'H/0' lamp was off, after

turn on; if it was on, after such
. operation it will turn off for a moment
and then turn oN again .
.2 RECALL
From the above memory procedure the
engine can be set to run at the preset spee
by simply pressing the keypad continuously

for at least 0.5 [half] second as shown in
figure 3.2

and the engine will work at steady speed.
By pulse-pushing keys [1] or [2] it is possibl
to change the engine speed, starting from
the speed just recalled. However if you wis

The speed value, which can be stored in the 'MAX' memory must
exceed 1500rpm. If you attempt to memorize a lower value, the
system will automatically.memorize 1500 rpm.
The speed value, which can be stored in the 'MIN' memory must be
less than 1500rpm. If you attempt to memorize a higher value, the
system will automatically memorize 1500rpm. .
If the engine has a speed less than SOOrpm [or engine turned off], no
memory procedure will be accepted.

Adiustments and Servicing
General Before attempting work on_ the electronic engine control system service
personnel should be familiar with the general procedures and principals
described on service bulletin 044 file 8 electrics. Remember also the_engine
will not run without fuel. ' ·
Automatic Engine Shutdown and Self Diagnosis Feature
The system is designed to shut the engine down automatically under certain
predeterncined circumstances and at the sane time a self test progra~ is
initiated.
The following table lists the tests and it is important to note that these
indicate the area of fault and not necessarily the ccxnponent.
Control Actuator
With the engine stopped the injection pump rack is returned to the stop
position under spring pressure (rearward).
As the engine starts to crank the rack should m:>Ve imnediately to the excess
fuel position.
If there is no rrovement and the two flash sequence is showing, first check
the actuator connections.
Check for mechanical obstruction by rem::>ving the plug in the top of
the actuator and inserting a 5 mm allen key in the pivot screw.
Without ~ force, the actuator should move srroothly against spring pressure.
Any obstructlon e.g. a seized punp element, will result in engine shut down.
The allen· key can be used to manually rrove the P\JITP rack to a run position
and if the engine starts will confirm an electrical problem.
Important
When replacing an actuator asserrt>ly, cheCk that the arm is connected to the
fuel injection purrp rack. There should be a maxim.un of 0.5 mm clearance
bet~ the_ arm and t~ rack. _Before starting the engine insert the 5 mn
allen. key in tpe pivot screw and _control_ engine speed _manually until the ·
electron_ic con~rol_.::_is confirmed~ _Replace the plu:J - ___ _

When there's a f'ailure in the system of'the engine electronic regulator, the
red light {led) of' the hand control throttle flashes. By interpreting the
flashing code you can find the f'ailure.

C_alibrating the governor actuator
Proceed as follows:
- Turn on the engine and run to 2000 ± 100 r.p.m. using the hand throttle.
The engine should never be subjected to dragging loads. Make sure the red LED on hand throttle control lever is
illuminated.
- Remove plug A to gain access to the actuator spring for spring load setting and loosen screw B until first, the engine
r.p.m. drops and then, the engine stops.
CAUTION: locating this condition requires high precision, meticulous operating procedure and namely:
- locating approximately the point where the engine r.p.m. starts dropping;
- with engine off, tightening adjusting screw B by the number of turns indicated in table below.

CONT-ROL ACTUATOR.
Movement of the actuator can be viewed by removing the rubber plug on top of the actuator and also
by removing the engine oil filler neck. -
With the engine stopped, the injection pump control rod is returned to the .~t9p position under spring
pressure (rearward). -
If there is no movement at'lcl the two flash sequences is showing, first check the actua~or connections.
Voltage across the actuator terminals should be .3 to .a volts when the key switch is turned on it should
rise to around 6 volts as cranking starts and then drop back to 3-4 volts as the engine starts.
Check for mechanical obstruction by removing the rubber plug in the top of the actuator and insening
a 5 mm allen key in the pivot screw. ·
Without undue force, the actuator should move smoothly against spring pressure.

A new manual accelerator keyboard is now beng manufactured. The unit features the folowing characteristics:

Due to the different size of the IC&yboard, modifications have been made to: the keyboard compartment in the instrument panel (Frutteto II). the right
central pillar cover (Antares-Titan) and the comection wiring.

• bring lever to ~inimum (downwards), press "C" to store in memory and ··s·· to
change parameter;
- bring lever to maximum (upwards). press "C" to store in memory and "E'' to exit:
• once calibration has been completed, switch off the panel before starttng up the
engine.

GEARBOX AND POWER TAKE OFF CLUTCH
GENERAL INFORMATION
The clutch is a two-stage type. The ·two clutch disks, one for the gearbox and the other for the P.T.O., are provided
with circular friction linings made of organic material.
The clutch housing is provided with ventilation openings for efficient cooling of all components during engagement.
The controls are completely separate: a pedal controls the gearbox clutch, and a hand lever controls the power take-off
clutch.
The maintenance operations are limited exclusively to periodic adjustments and lubrication of the clutch sleeve.
The simple construction ensures high performance and full gearbox-to-engine power transmission.

The control clutch idle stroke, measured as indicated in the figure, must be about 20 mm.
Otherwise, loosen screw A and adjust plate B in the direction idicated by the arrow until the Clutch begins to disengage.
Position the control lever so that it has a travel of about 20 mm, then lock screw A.

ADJUSTING THE FREE TRAVEL OF lliE PTO CONTROL LEVER
Model with hydrostatic control
Every 150 work hours: Check the free travel of the P.T.O. control.
Proceed as follows:
Move lever A by hand in the direction indicated by the arrow, until the
clutch begins to disengage; ·
Use a sliding gauge to make sure that dimension B is 23 mm.
Otherwise turn screw C to restore this dimension.

- Push shaft A in the direction indicated by the arrow and bring it against shaft B until the clearance between the two
shafts is eliminated.
- Using a caliper, measure the distance between snap ring C and the gearbox plane.
- Form shim pack X, determined by the measured dimension and increased by between 0.2 to 0.4 mm, and position
it as indicated in the figure.(Shim code 007.2442.0 and 007.2443.0).
-.Push shaft A in the direction indicated by the arrow and bring it against shaft B until the clearance between the two
shafts is eliminated.
- Using a feeler gauge, read the distance Y between washer C and the plane of the gearbox
-Form shim packZ, where Z Y + (6.5 • 1), and position it as indicated in the figure. (Shim code 2.1580.001.0).

Bevel gear pair adjustment
Install the pinion in the gearbox and position shim pack A of thickness 0.75 mm.
Tighten the ring nut to a torque of 8 Kgm (78 Nm) and rotate the shaft until noting that the bearings slide freely with a
light preload.
Install the crown gear. Shim tapered bearings B and C so that they turn freely in their seats and check that there is no
play. Add~m thickness shims to the shim pack until the bearings are preloaded.
Adjust distance D between the differential housing and the pinion head by adding or removing shims from shim pack
A.
The exact measure of the above adjustment is obtained by adding or subtracting the value stamped on the pinion tooth
profile to the base value of 3 mm.
Using a comparator, check the backlash between the pinion and crown gear teeth. The backlash must be between
0.17 to 0.22 mm for the 30 Km/h version and between 0.20 to 0.27 for the 40 Km/h version.
If the backlash is not within specified limits, remove shims from shim pack C and add them to shim pack B to bring the
crown gear towards the pinion and vice versa to move the crown gear away from the pinion.

Reassembly of the rear gearbox casing
Install:
-The P.T.O. output shaft and related gears.
- The bevel pinion and ring bevel gear and adjust for proper installation.
- differential lock
-The power take-off shaft and related gears
- The speed range gear-shifting fork
- The casing for the front-wheel drive engagement with related control
-The P.T.O. clutch control lever and the parking brake control lever; then insert the internal P.T.O. controls.
Install:
- The secondary shaft with related gears, then apply the 1st and 2nd speed shifting forks on the synchronizing device.
- The primary shaft with related gears.
- The speed range reducer to the front gearbox casing.
- The gear-shifting forks with related rods and stop pieces.
- The front cover of the secondary shaft.
-The coupling and the clutch release bearing of the gearbox clutch and of the P.T.O. clutch.
Caution:
The spacer inserted on the rear output shaft is equipped with an "0" ring on the external surface of the sealing ring.
To remove the spacer, it is necessary to use an extractor placed in the two holes located in the spacer.
Whenever removing the pins of the brakes and clutch control levers, check for wear on the bushings inserted in the
lever seat.
In case of poor performance of the front-wheel drive control, check the efficiency of the stop piece and make sure that
it can engage in the pushrod seat.

2.2 -Definizione spessori
2.2.1-:issare 11 pacco mediante la piastrina H e la relativa
vite G con una coppia di se~raqqio di 9 Kqm.
2.2.2-:ar ruotare il supporto ruota per circa 10 qiri.
2.2.3-Verificare che la coppia di serraqqio della vite sia
ancora tale. Qualora si fosse allentata strinqerla
nuovamente alla coppia succitata.
2.2.4-!ogliere la piastrina H e misurare accuratamente la
distan:a X tra il piano D del semiasse e i~ piano E della
scatola porta-satelliti (vedi fiqura).
2.2.5-Montare sotto la piastrina H un numero di spessori F tale
da recuperare la distanza X rilevata ! 0.02 mm.

Installing the flexible coupling
The flexible coupling has 6 raised arrows on its outside suriace. 3 oriented in one directior1, 3 in the other.
The installation of the coupling must be done in such a way that the arrows turn around the the base towards the 3
arms of the driving flange and the 3 of the driven flange .

FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE
General information
The front wheel drive was designed to make the center of the front drive axle coincide with the center of rotation of the
drive shaft.
The drive shaft, direct and without universal joints, transfers movement to the two front steering wheels by means of
a central differential and two epicyclic final reducer gears inserted in the hubs.

Checking toe-in
Measure dimensions A and 8 using a compass and taking the
readings at a point that lies in a horizontal plane that passes
through the wheel axis. Always take the readings at the same point
on the wheel ring and turn the compass a half turn to take into
account any deformations of the wheel ring itself.

When reassembling, proceed as follows:
Axle shafts
- When inserting the axle shaft, be careful not to damage the
roller bearing or the seal ring. The axle shaft end should be
correctly introduced into the differential gear planetaries.
Then make sure that the axle shaft is free to rotate.
Forks
- After installing the bearings and the dust rings, mount the fork
by placing one 0.5 mm shim under the lower pin, then fit the
pin, using a hammer if necessary. Finally, tighten the securing
screws.
- Fit a shim pack, thicker than the one taken out, under the upper
pin. Install the pin and tighten the securing screws.
Brakes
- Replace the brake control piston 0-rings and insert the piston
in its seat with the oil grooves turned outwards.
Epicyclic reducer
- Fit shims between the planetary carrier flange and the pin
securing plate until the bearings rotate freely and a slight
bearing preload can be felt. Then remove one 0.05 mm shim
from the shim pack.

completely and read the clearance on gauge dial.
After all clearance has been taken up, remove a 0.10 to 0.15 mm
shim pack, so that a correct bearing preload can be obtained.

- Internal adjustment
The differential lock internal adjustment can only be performed
after the bevel gear pair adjustment has been completed.
Insert contrate gear F into sleeve G and insert them both into the
right-hand planetary hub.
Install spacer H, insert the 15 balls, sleeve I and shim pack L, after
mounting shoulder ring M and snap ring N, until the sleeve play
has been eliminated.
Check that, when moving the control sleeve towards the center of
the differential, the differential lock is engaged. (Be sure that the
inside part of sleeve G is above the ball level, as shown in figure
22).
Otherwise remove shims from the external shim pack and form an
internal shim pack, bringing it into contact with spacer H until the
required conditions are restored.
Adjust the length of tie rod 0 (figure 20) by adjusting fork P until
obtaining dimension Q of 75 mm.

Installing the differential assembly into the drive
axle
Position the assembly so that the differential lock sleeve is on the
same side as the internal control lever.
After positioning the differential into the drive axle, check the
differential lock for proper engagement by operating the control
lever and rotating the bevel pinion by hand.
- External adjustment
Move the pedal to its highest position as indicated by the arrow
(figure 20).

Hydrostatic steering
General information
There in no direct mechanical connection between the wheels and
steering wheel. Therefore, no vibration can reach the driver.
The necessary oil is drawn from the the principal system by means
of a "priority" valve. This valve is controlled by the distributor which
is operated by the steering wheel. Only the oil quantity necessary
for the operation is sent to the hydrostatic steering system
The system also offers the advantage that the tractor can be driven
in the event of either a pump or tubing failure. A valve within the
distributor allows the oil to be drawn from the discharge circuit
through the oil control shutter whenever a pressure drop occurs
in the pump delivery circuit.

Clean all pump components thoroughly using either petrol or oil.
Check gears for excessive wear. If gears are found to be worn,
replace .

Hydraulic distributor
~-_,...._A Clean all distributor parts thoroughly.
Use an internal comparator to measure clearance between the
two distributor case parts (inner and outer). If this clearance is
found in excess of specifications, both parts must be replaced.
Distributor and piston cannot be supplied separately as spare
parts.

Loosen the two hydraulic cylinder fittings and turn the steering
wheel in both directions of rotation until the oil flows out of the
fittings without air bubbles.
Tighten the two fittings again and check the oil·level in the special
reservoir, topping-up if required.

Electro-hydraulic controls
The electro-hydraulic controls permit smoothness and comfort and allow the operator to work in a more congenial
manner.
This results in an increase in daily productivity as well as work performance.
The electro-hydraulic controls allow effortless operation and precise, quick, well-timed response without annoying
vibrations.
They ensure a safe and constant performance regardless of environmental work conditions.
All this guarantees a greater tractor work reliability and readiness.
Front-wheel drive
To operate the front-wheel drive, press the push button placed on the instrument board. The button will remain
depressed and the pilot light incorporated in it will be illuminated at the same time.
The front-wheel drive operation also causes a special pilot light inserted in the check panel on the instrument board
to illuminate.
To disengage, press the push button again.
Gearbox
The SYNCROPOWER gearbox offers a choice of two power shift speeds in each of the gears selected (by means of
the gearshift and speed range levers). These two speeds can be obtained, without using the clutch pedal, by simply
moving the electro-hydraulic control on the gearshift lever into either ...-. position or ... position.
This occurs by means of two multidisk clutches having alternate operation.
Shifting the lever into .., position engages the hydraulically-controlled clutch, thus preventing the operation of the
epicyclic reducer placed between the front and rear gearbox casing.
Shifting the lever in ...-. position disengages the hydraulically-controlled clutch while engaging the mechanically-
controlled clutch by means of Belleville-type washers.
Front power-lift
To operate the front power-lift, use the adjusting lever placed below the steering wheel. This permits the position control
to be operated electro-hydraulically.

Front-wheel drive disengagement cylinder
The front-wheel drive control cylinder has single-acting operation and provides front-wheel drive disengagement when
required.
Pressing the push button control activates the electro-valve so that the oil contail")ed in the hydraulic control system is
drained off. As a consequence, the return spring causes engagement of the front-wheel drive.
. - With the piston at the end of stroke (position A), and spring 5 disconnected, bring lever B to "disengagement"
position C.
- Operating fork 2, opportunely adjust the length of the tie rod and tighten locknut 1.
-Bring lever B into "disengagement" position D.
- Turn screw 4, bringing it into contact with the piston, then tighten locknut 3.

HYDRAULIC POWER-LIFT
General information
- Green lever: establishes the sensitivity of the "draft control" by means of a mechanism connected to the 3-point
hitch and controls the quick lowering by moving the lever to the "FLOAT" sector.
Two valves arranged in series control the working pressure (max. 180 bar) and the maximum pressure in the system
(safety valve set at 200 bar).
Two adjustable valves are incorporated in the hydrau lie distributor of the power-lift. The valves are adjustable by means
of two external levers. With the levers, it is possible to control the falling speed of the implement and the sensitivity at
which the hydraulic power-lift distributor is operated.
The power-lift is equipped with a manually operated hydraulic locking device used whenever transporting mounted
implements over long distances on public roads.

turn the control lever "RS" clockwise, together with the sensitivity
adjustment ring nut protected by rubber cap 4, until bringing it to
position 2.
Lock the ring nut by tightening screws 3 and find the jolting position
again by turning the control lever "RS" in a counterclockwise
direction.
After locating the jolting position, slowly turn control lever "RS" in
a clockwise direction until the arms stop moving. Then, continue
to rotate it in a clockwise direction by 1/4 turn.

Keeping the control levers in position, turn position control pin L
in a counterclockwise direction using a 13 mm wrench until the
internal hydraulic limit switch is activated. This stops the upward
movement of the lifting arms.
Tighten screw I then operate the lifting arms a few times to ensure
that the maximum height positioQ remains the same.

Rear hydraulic power-lift
Activate the pump and turn the valve adjusting screws until the
valves are set to the prescribed values.
Otherwise, if oil leaks from the drain hole, the check valve and
hydraulic lock need to be replaced or else the overpressure valve
needs to be replaced.
For good hydraulic lock operation, during· every test always ensure
free movement of the distributor stem and the differential valve.

The tractor can be equipped with the front hydraulic lifting system on request.
It is operated by means of two hydraulic cylinders actuated by the electro-hydraulic control located under the steering
wheel. -
The control activates a single-acting distributor valve placed in the rear of the tractor.
Ths permits the position control to be operated electro-hydraulically.
A specific valve dampens the overloads and the position control recovers the implement height.
The lifting arms are equipped with telescopic stabilizers that allow transversal movement of the arms as well as width
adjustment between the arms.

• Plug the ALL ROUND TESTER into the diagnostic socket (R/H side of dash
board).
• Release the detent which holds the "Control/transport" switch in lock "Transport
mode", then switch to the "CONTROL" mode.
• Tum on the ignition switch but do not run the engine.
• On the main menu press key " ( 2 ) LIFT".
NOTE: sometimes "( 2 ) LIFT" may not come on at first. If not, tum off the
ignition switch and try again.
• At the top of the first screen, you can see the software type:
NOTE: this must be V 1.1 N (N indicates the new version). If the software is not
type 'N' these adjustments and checks cannot be done.
• Under the head line "BUT" you can read what is the power lift switch condition.
This must be "Ctrl" (control mode).
NOTE: short circuit to ground is not indicated, the system is protected by the
ELECT 1 fuse.
• Turning the control from "0" to "1 0" the value indicated below the head line
"COM" should vary from approximately 50 to 240 in gradual increments.
3. MAXIMAL HEIGHT ADJUSTEMENT AND TEST
WARNING: make sure that during these operations nobody stays close to the
power lift arms .
• Engine running, check that when accelerating the number shown under "FRQ"
headline, increases gradually.

OPERATING
The hand throttle consists in a stalk attached to the steering column, which
raises and lowers the engine revolutions in the same way as a conven-
tional control, but with additional functions:

- Co !Iegare al tester, nella porta "SERIALE", il cava specifico di collegamento identificabile dall'etichetta con Ia scritta
"MOTORE".
- Assicurarsi che Ia chiave di awiamento del trattore sia in posizione "0" e che il regolatore del motore non sia
alimentato.

- Co !Iegare il cava del tester al connettore a 4 poli della presa diagnostica della centralina, quindi ruotare Ia chiave
di awiamento su!la posizione ""1 ''.
- Effettuare if test motore seguendo le istruzioni che appaiono sui display del tester.
AWERTENZE
- Le operazioni di PROGRAMMAZJONE MANU ALEe MISURA GIRl MOTORE devono essere effettuate con motore
in mota.
