Mœbius Illustrates Dante's Paradiso | Open Culture

Vogliamo concludere la settimana dedicata a Dante con le illustrazioni di Jean Giraud, alias Moebius,
fumettista francese, considerato uno dei maestri dell’illustrazione di genere fantastico e fantascientifico.
Passato alla storia nel 2012 verrà ricordato per i suoi capolavori come Blueberry, Arzach, and The Airtight
Garage of Jerry Cornelius, e per i suoi concept che hanno inspirato film come Blade Runner, Alien, Star
Wars, Tron e Il Quinto Elemento.

Nel 1999, la Galleria Nuages di Milano espone 3 illustrazioni dedicate alla divina commedia, una inspirata al
paradiso realizzata dalla mano di Moebius, a cui seguirà una edizione del Paradiso di Dante illustrata con 18
tavole di Giraud.

L'estetica psichedelica, steampunk, ibrida e strana di Moebius incontra la purezza spirituale delle
descrizioni paradisiache di Dante e imprime una sorta di carattere angosciante ma allo stesso tempo
curioso, effetto amplificato anche dall’uso che l’artista fa dei colori.

Una divina commedia moderna, dove gli angeli indossano costumi che sembrano fantascienza e sembrano
essere entità aliene. L’opera di Moebius è un esercizio eccezionale dove il nuovo mito si fonde con la storia
eterna del cielo.

We want to end the week dedicated to Dante with the illustrations by Jean Giraud, aka Moebius, a French
cartoonist, considered one of the masters of fantasy and science fiction illustration. Died in 2012, he will be
remembered for his masterpieces such as Blueberry, Arzach, and The Airtight Garage of Jerry Cornelius, and
for his concepts that inspired films such as Blade Runner, Alien, Star Wars, Tron and The Fifth Element.

In 1999, the Nuages Gallery in Milan exhibited 3 illustrations dedicated to the divine comedy, one inspired
by the Paradise made by Moebius himself, which will be followed by an edition of Dante's Paradiso
illustrated with 18 tables by Giraud.

The psychedelic, steampunk, hybrid and strange aesthetic of Moebius meets the spiritual purity of Dante's
heavenly descriptions and impresses a sort of distressing but at the same time curious character, an effect
also amplified by the artist's use of colors.

A divine modern comedy, where angels wear costumes that look like science fiction and appear to be alien
entities. Moebius's work is an exceptional exercise where the new myth merges with the eternal history of
heaven.
