Chand Baori è un pozzo a gradini situato in un villaggio del Rajastan vicino a Jaipur in India.

Il nome deriva
da re Chand di Abhaneri e da Baori ("pozzo"), che lo costruì intorno al VII-IX secolo. Si tratta di un vero e
proprio simbolo dell’ingegneria idraulica dell’antichità, con i suoi 3500 gradini, che scendono per 13 piani o
livelli fino a raggiungere l'acqua. La sua struttura è talmente complessa che una leggenda lo vuole costruito
in una sola notte dai Djinn e che non possono essere usati gli stessi gradini per scendere e risalire il pozzo.

È un vero capolavoro di ingegneria. Il pozzo è formato da 3500 gradini che scendono per 13 piani fino ad
arrivare all’acqua. Le scale circondano le pareti del pozzo su tre lati, mentre il quarto ospita un padiglione a
tre livelli ornato con dei bellissimi jharokha.

Queste strutture servivano a fornire un approvvigionamento d’acqua costante per tutto l’anno oppure un
luogo fresco dove ristorarsi nelle torride estati indiante.

Durante le notti di luna piena, quando la luce della luna riflette dall’acqua sulle pareti del pozzo, è possibile
percepire tutta la magia che permea questo luogo

Chand Baori is a step well located in a Rajasthani village near Jaipur in India. The name derives from King
Chand of Abhaneri and from Baori ("well"), who built it around the 7th-9th Century.

It is a true engineering masterpiece. The well consists of 3500 steps that descend 13 floors to the water.
The stairs surround the walls of the shaft on three sides, while the fourth houses a three-tiered pavilion
adorned with beautiful jharokhas. Its structure is so complex that a legend says it was built in one night by
the Djinn and that cannot be used the same steps to go down and up the well.

These facilities serve to provide a constant supply of water throughout the year or a cool place to refresh in
the scorching Indian summers.

During full moon nights, when the light of of the moon reflects from the water on the walls of the well, it is
possible to perceive all the magic that permeates this place.
