Una settimana molto occupata
Strategy: Writing complex sentences
As your vocabulary in Italian expands, you are able to write more complex
sentences. In this e-mail writing task, you will describe your schedule and
suggest activities that you can do given your schedule.
With this in mind, imagine that an old friend is going to be in town next week.
Bring your appointment calendar up to date so that you can figure out when
you will be able to spend time with him/her. Then write an e-mail to your
friend explaining your schedule and suggesting when you can get together.
A. Begin by making notes on your calendar to show what you are scheduled
to do each day next week.
Esempio

B. Looking at your completed calendar, list the times when you will be able
to see your friend and the activities you can suggest.
C. Now, draft your e-mail, telling your friend about your schedule and
suggesting what you might do when you are not tied up.
Esempio Ciao… Quando sei libero(a) tu? Ecco la mia settimana.
Lunedì vado all’università. Dopo le lezioni prendiamo un caffè al
bar? Martedì…
D. Conclude your e-mail by saying good-bye and signing your name. Make
sure that you have spelled all words correctly, and double-check subject-
verb agreement and noun-adjective agreement. Share your e-mail with a
classmate. Does he/she think you and your friend are going to have an
enjoyable week?

Dialetti, accenti
e pronuncia

A. You are going to read about the Italian dialects, accents, and the system
Italians commonly use to spell words.
a Milano.
divisione politica dell’Italia, frazionata in molte città-
gradualmente a sparire.

è: Genova, Ancona, Roma, Imola, Bologna, Ancona, Livorno,
Domodossola, Imola. È importante quando si parla al
telefono comunicare correttamente i nomi propri o di località,
specialmente in situazioni di emergenza.
Anne E per la parola «Earthlink»?
Alessandro Empoli, Ancona, Roma, Torino, hotel, Livorno, Imola, Napoli,
cappa.
Anne Hotel?
italiano?
Alessandro I lunga, kappa, doppia vu, ics, ipsilon (oppure i greca). In ge-
a è sempre Ancona, eccetera.
It takes

NOTE: Benché i nomi corrispondenti per stepfather/mother, stepson/daughter siano (are): patrigno/matrigna,
Informazioni
I parenti
In molte famiglie italiane entrambi (both) i genitori lavorano fuori casa, spesso per necessità economiche, e padre
allontanarsi (move away) dalla città o regione in cui sono cresciuti (where they were raised) e pertanto (therefore)
