Happiness is everywhere in the mountains and the valleys and in every flower.
The world was beautiful when looked at in this way - without any seeking, so
simple, so childlike. The moon and stars were beautiful, the brook, the shore, the
forest and rock, the goat and the golden beetle, the flower and butterfly were
beautiful. It was beautiful and pleasant to go through the world like that, so
childlike, so awakened, so concerned with the immediate, without any distrust.

"Beim Schlafengehen", the third of Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs, burns and
glows incredibly, with a heart-rending crescendo: a song, set by the 84 year old
Strauss, to Herman Hesse's lines, about tiredness and letting go.
Accanto al ruscello
dietro ai rossi salici
molti fiori gialli
in questi giorni aprirono
i loro occhi d'oro.
E me, da tempo ormai dell'innocenza privo,
porta la rimembranza verso profondit
alle dorate ore mattutine della mia vita
e limpido mi vedo negli occhi dei fiori.
Volevo andare a distruggere quei fiori;
poi li ho lasciati stare
(cfr. Battiato: Se vuoi conoscere i tuoi pensieri di ieri osserva il tuo corpo oggi
Manchmal
Manchmal, wenn ein Vogel ruft
oder ein Wind geht in den Zweigen
oder ein Hund bellt im fernsten Gehft,
dann mu ich lange lauschen und schweigen.
Meine Seele flieht zurck,
tutti i tuoi sonniferi.
Ci che in me era tenero e delicato
il mondo lo ha deriso a morte,
ma indistruttibile il mio essere:
sono pago, conciliato.
Paziente genero nuove foglie
da rami cento volte sfrondati
e a dispetto di ogni pena
rimango innamorato
del mondo folle.
Klingsor : ...
indicibilmente bello e vario, attraverso quell'alta porta verde scampana fin quass
Questi verdi dintorni, in grazia dell'estate senza pioggia, son diventati
verit"
For me, trees have always been the most penetrating preachers. I revere them when
they live in tribes and families, in forests and groves. And even more I revere
them when they stand alone. They are like lonely persons. Not like hermits who have
stolen away out of some weakness, but like great, solitary men, like Beethoven and
Nietzsche. In their highest boughs the world rustles, their roots rest in infinity;
but they do not lose themselves there, they struggle with all the force of their
lives for one thing only: to fulfil themselves according to their own laws, to
build up their own form, to represent themselves. Nothing is holier, nothing is
more exemplary than a beautiful, strong tree. When a tree is cut down and reveals
its naked death-wound to the sun, one can read its whole history in the luminous,
inscribed disk of its trunk: in the rings of its years, its scars, all the
struggle, all the suffering, all the sickness, all the happiness and prosperity
stand truly written, the narrow years and the luxurious years, the attacks
withstood, the storms endured.
normale.
(Siddharta)
All the books in the world will not bring you happiness, but they will quietly
lead you back inside yourself. There you will find all you need, sun, stars and
moon, for the light for which you search dwells within you.
personalit.
Son dovuto passare attraverso tanta sciocchezza, tanta bruttura, tanto errore,
tanto disgusto e delusione e dolore, solo per ridiventare bambino e poter
(E' facile essere giovani e agire bene, tenersi lontano da ogni meschinit;
The art of life lies in learning how to suffer and learning how to smile.
Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as
time?" That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the
mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the
mountains, everywhere and that the present only exists for it, not the shadow of
the past nor the shadow of the future.
- Siddhartha
E ben presto nata in me una diffidenza verso
I have learned to be happy where I am. I have learned that every moment of every
single day contains all the joy, all the peace, all the threads of that plot we
call life. The meaning is hidden in every moment, there is no other way to find it.

I began to understand that suffering and disappointments and melancholy are there
not to vex us or cheapen us or deprive us of our dignity, but to mature and
transfigure us.
