1.GENERALITA’
1.1 La prova ha lo scopo di determinare la
resistenza opposta ad una compressione
localizzata, ed è basata sulla misura, in
condizioni definite e costanti, della
penetrazione di una punta nel materiale in
esame.
Il metodo “A” si applica alle gomme
vulcanizzate ed ai plastici flessibili, il metodo
“D” si applica ai plastici rigidi ed ai materiali
di attrito.
I metodi “A” e “D” differiscono sia per la
forma del penetratore (rispettivamente un
tronco di cono e un cono con vertice
arrotondato), sia per il carico, maggiore nel
metodo “D”.
2. PROVETTE
2.1 Di regola si impiegano provette di
spessore di almeno 6 mm, per il metodo “A”,
e 3 mm per il metodo “D”. Nel caso che lo
spessore sia inferiore è possibile sovrappor-
ne due o più fino a raggiungere tale
spessore.
2.2 Le dimensioni della provetta devono
essere sufficienti a permettere misure ad
almeno 12 mm di distanza dai bordi, la
superficie su cui si effettua la misura deve
essere piana e liscia.
2.3 Qualora non sia possibile ricavare le
provette, la misura si effettuerà direttamente
sui pezzi finiti.
3. DUREZZA SHORE “A”
3.1 STRUMENTO DI MISURA:
Durometro con scala shore “A”, conforme a
quanto prescritto dalle Norme UNI 4916-67
ed ASTM D2240.
3.2 ESECUZIONE DELLA PROVA:
secondo istruzioni delle Norme UNI 4916-67
ed ASTM D2240 la lettura deve essere
eseguita all’istante del completo contatto fra
materiale e base d’appoggio dello strumento
(posizione massima raggiunta dall’indice),
salvo nel caso di materiali vinilici flessibili,
per i quali la lettura dovrà essere effettuata
dopo 15±1 secondo.

1.GENERAL CONDITIONS
1.1 The test has the aim of determining the
resistance contrasted by local compression
and is based on the measurement, in final
and constant conditions, of penetration in a
point of the material under examination.
The method “A” is applied to vulcanized
rubbers and flexible plastics, the method “D”
is for rigid plastics and friction material.
The methods “A” and “D” differ both for the
shape of the penetrating probe (respectively
a truncated cone and a cone with rounded
tip) and for the load applied, higher for
method “D”.
2. TEST PIECES
2.1 Normally the test pieces have a
thickness of at least 6 mm for method “A”
and 3 mm for method “D”. In the case where
thicknesses are inferior then layers are
formed to obtain the required height.
2.2 The test piece must be such that the
measurement can be taken at least 12 mm
from the edge. The surface where
measurements are taken must be flat and
smooth.
2.3 In the case where it is not possible to
obtain test pieces, reading are taken directly
from the test piece.
3. SHORE HARDNESS “A”
3.1 MEASURING INSTRUMENTS:
Hardness tester with shore “A” scale
according to specifications on Std. UNI
4916-67 and ASTM D2240.
3.2 TESTING PROCEDURE
According to the instruments on Std. UNI
4916-67 and ASTM D2240 the reading must
be taken when there is a complete contact
between test piece and resting base of
instrument (max. position attained by index
needle); except in the case of flexible vynilic
materials where the reading has to be taken
after 15±1 second.

4.1 STRUMENTO DI MISURA: 4.1 MEASURING INSTRUMENTS:
Durometro con scala shore “D”, conforme a Hardness tester with shore scale “D”
quanto prescritto dalle Norme UNI 4916-67 according to specifications on Std. UNI 4916-
ed ASTM D2240. 67 and ASTM D2240.

4.2 ESECUZIONE DELLA PROVA: 4.2 TESTING PROCEDURE

ed ASTM D2240 la lettura deve essere
eseguita all’istante del completo contatto fra
materiale e base d’appoggio dello strumento
(posizione massima raggiunta dall’indice).

be taken at the moment of a complete
contact between test piece and resting base
of the instrument (max. movement of index
needle).

5.2 The test report must show:
- Type of test (“A” or “D”).
- The thickness of test piece and the
eventual number of layers or the indication of
“measure on the piece”.
- Each individual hardness reading and the
relative average value (see para. 5.1).
Normally the max difference between the
five single readings should be within 2 HS.
- If the reading has been taken after 15 secs.
it should be transcribed, “hardess after 15 s”.
