The frogs and the Ox
An ox came down to a reedy pool to drink. As he splashed
heavily into the water, he crushed a young Frog into the mud.
The old Frog soon missed the little one and asked his brothers
and sisters what had become of him. "A great big monster," said
one of them, "stepped on little brother with one of his huge
feet!"
"Big, was he!" said the old Frog, puffing herself up. "Was he as
big as this?" "Oh, much bigger!" they cried. The Frog puffed up
still more. "He could not have been bigger than this," she said.
But the little Frogs all declared that the monster was much,
much bigger, and the old Frog kept puffing herself out more and
more until, all at once, he burst.

Un bue scese ad uno stagno ricco di canne per bere. Mentre
schizzava pesantemente nell'acqua, schiacciò una giovane rana
nel fango.
Ben presto il vecchio ranocchio sentì la mancanza del piccolo
e chiese ai suoi fratelli e sorelle cosa ne fosse stato di lui. "Un
mostro enorme," disse uno di loro, "ha calpestato il fratellino con
uno dei suoi enormi piedi!"
"Grande, era lui!" disse la vecchia rana gonfiandosi. "Era
grosso così?" "Oh, molto più grande!" loro piansero. La Rana si
gonfiò ancora di più. "Non avrebbe potuto essere più grande di
così", ha detto. Ma tutti i Ranocchi dichiararono che il mostro
era molto, molto più grande, e il vecchio Ranocchio continuò a
gonfiarsi sempre di più finché, all'improvviso, scoppiò.
