‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلْيَك َيا َأَبا َعْبِد ٱلَّلِه‬

alssalamu `alayka ya aba `abdillahi

Peace be upon you, O Abu-`Abdullah.

‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلْيَك َيا ْبَن َر ُسوِل ٱلَّلِه‬

alssalamu `alayka yabna rasuli allahi
Peace be upon you, O son of Allah’s Messenger.

‫الَّس َالُم َع َليَك َيا ِخ َيَرِة ٱلَّلِه َو ٱْبَن َخيَرِتِه‬

alssalamu `alayka ya khiyarata allahi wabna khiyaratihi
Peace be upon you, O choicest of Allah and son of His choicest.

‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلْيَك َيا ْبَن َأِم يِر ٱْلُم ْؤ ِمِنيَن‬

alssalamu `alayka yabna amiri almu'minina
Peace be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful

‫َو ٱْبَن َس ِّيِد ٱْلَو ِص ِّييَن‬

wabna sayyidi alwasiyyina
and son of the chief of the Prophets’ successors.

‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلْيَك َيا ْبَن َفاِط َم َة‬

alssalamu `alayka yabna fatimata
Peace be upon you, O son of Fatimah

‫َسِّيَد ِة ِنَس اِء ٱْلَع اَلِم يَن‬

sayyidati nisa'i al`alamina
the doyenne of the women of the worlds.

‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلْيَك َيا َثاَر ٱلَّلِه َو ٱْبَن َثاِرِه َو ٱْلِو ْتَر ٱْلَم ْو ُتوَر‬
alssalamu `alayka ya thara allahi wabna tharihi walwitra almawtura
Peace be upon you, O vengeance of Allah, son of His vengeance, and the unavenged so
far.

‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلْيَك َو َع َلٰى ٱَألْر َو اِح ٱَّلِتي َح َّلْت ِبِفَناِئَك‬

alssalamu `alayka wa `ala al-arwahi allati hallat bifina'ika
Peace be upon you and upon the souls that resided in your courtyard.

‫َس َالُم ٱلَّلِه َأَبدًا‬ ‫َع َلْيُك ْم ِم ِّني َجِم يعًا‬

`alaykum minni jami`an salamu allahi abadan
Peace of Allah be upon all of you from me forever

‫َم ا َبقيُت َوَبِقَي ٱلَّلْيُل َو ٱلَّنَهاُر‬

ma baqitu wa baqiya allaylu walnnaharu
as long as I am existent and as long as there are day and night.

‫َيا َأَبا َعْبِد ٱلَّلِه‬

ya aba `abdillahi
O Abu-`Abdullah,

‫َلَقْد َع ُظَم ِت ٱلَّر ِزَّيُة‬

laqad `azumat alrraziyyatu
unbearable is the sorrow

‫َو َج َّلْت َو َع ُظَم ِت ٱْلُم صيَبُة ِبَك‬

wa jallat wa `azumat almusibatu bika
and excruciating and unbearable is the misfortune of you

‫َع َلْيَنا َو َع َلٰى َج ِم يِع َأْهِل ٱِإل ْسَالِم‬

`alayna wa `ala jami`i ahli al-islami
for us and for all the people of Islam.

‫َو َج َّلْت َو َع ُظَم ْت ُم صيَبُتَك‬

wa jallat wa `azumat musibatuka
Excruciating and unbearable has been your misfortune

‫ِفي ٱلَّس َم اَو اِت َع َلٰى َجِم يِع َأْهِل ٱلَّس َم اَو اِت‬
fi alssamawati `ala jami`i ahli alssamawati
in the heavens for all the inhabitants of the heavens.

‫َفَلَعَن ٱلَّلُه ُأَّم ًة َأَّس َس ْت َأَس اَس ٱلُّظْلِم َو ٱْلَجْو ِر َع َلْيُك ْم َأْهَل ٱْلَبْيِت‬
fala`ana allahu ummatan assasat asasa alzzulmi waljawri `alaykum ahla albayti
So, may Allah curse the people who laid the basis of persecution and wronging
against you, O Members of the Household.

‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه ُأَّم ًة َد َفَع ْتُك ْم َع ْن َم َقاِم ُك ْم‬

wa la`ana allahu ummatan dafa`atkum `an maqamikum
May Allah curse the people who drove you away from your position

‫َو َأَز اَلْتُك ْم َع ْن َم َر اِتِبُك ُم ٱَّلِتي َر َّتَبُك ُم ٱلَّلُه ِفيَها‬

wa azalatkum `an maratibikum allati rattabakum allahu fiha
and removed you away from your ranks that Allah has put you in.

‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه ُأَّم ًة َقَتَلْتُك ْم‬

wa la`ana allahu ummatan qatalatkum
May Allah curse the people who slew you.

‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه ٱْلُم َم ِّهِد يَن َلُهْم‬

wa la`ana allahu almumahhidina lahum
May Allah curse those who paved the way for them to do so

‫ِبٱلَّتْمِكيِن ِم ْن ِقَتاِلُك ْم‬

bilttamkini min qitalikum
and who made possible for them to fight against you.

‫َبِرْئُت ِإَلٰى ٱلَّلِه َو ِإَلْيُك ْم ِم ْنُهْم‬

bari'tu ila allahi wa ilaykum minhum
I repudiate them in the presence of Allah and You

‫َو ِم ْن َأْش َياِعِهْم َو َأْتَباِعِهْم َو َأْو ِلَياِئِهْم‬

wa min ashya`ihim wa atba`ihim wa awliya'ihim
and I repudiate their devotees, followers, and loyalists.

‫َيا َأَبا َعْبِد ٱلَّلِه‬

ya aba `abdillahi
O Abu-`Abdullah,

‫َس اَلَم ُك ْم‬ ‫ِإِّني ِس ْلٌم ِلَم ْن‬

inni silmun liman salamakum
I am at peace with those who are at peace with you

‫َو َح ْر ٌب ِلَم ْن َح اَرَبُك ْم ِإَلٰى َيْو ِم ٱْلِقَياَم ِة‬

wa harbun liman harabakum ila yawmi alqiyamati
and I am at war against those who have fought against you up to the Resurrection
Day.

‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه آَل ِزَياٍد َو آَل َم ْر َو اَن‬

wa la`ana allahu ala ziyadin wa ala marwana
May Allah also curse the family of Ziyad and the family of Marwan.
‫َبِني ُأَم َّيَة َقاِط َبًة‬ ‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه‬
wa la`ana allahu bani umayyata qatibatan
May Allah also curse the descendants of Umayyah altogether.

‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه ٱْبَن َم ْر َج اَنَة‬

wa la`ana allahu ibna marjanata
May Allah also curse the son of Marjanah.

‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه ُع َم َر ْبَن َس ْع ٍد‬

wa la`ana allahu `umara bna sa`din
May Allah also curse `Umar the son of Sa`d.

‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه ِشْم رًا‬

wa la`ana allahu shimran
May Allah also curse Shimr.

‫َو َلَعَن ٱلَّلُه ُأَّم ًة َأْس َرَج ْت َو َأْلَج َم ْت‬

wa la`ana allahu ummatan asrajat wa aljamat
May Allah also curse the people who saddled up, gave reins to their horses,

‫َو َتَنَّقَبْت ِلِقَتاِلَك‬

wa tanaqqabat liqitalika
and masked their faces in preparation for fighting against you.

‫ِبَأِبي َأْنَت َو ُأِّم ي‬

bi'abi anta wa ummi
May my father and mother be ransoms for you.

‫َلَقْد َع ُظَم ُمَص اِبي ِبَك‬

laqad `azuma musabi bika
Extremely insufferable is my commiserations with you;

‫َفَأْس َأُل ٱلَّلَه ٱَّلِذ ي َأْك َر َم َم َقاَم َك َو َأْك َر َم ِني ِبَك‬

fa'as'alu allaha alladhi akrama maqamaka wa akramani bika
so, I beseech Allah Who has honored your position and honored me because of you

‫َأْن َيْر ُزَقِني َطَلَب َثْأِرَك‬

an yarzuqani talaba tha'rika
to endue me with the chance to avenge you

‫َم َع ِإَم اٍم َم ْنُصوٍر ِم ْن َأْهِل َبْيِت ُمَحَّمٍد‬

ma`a imamin mansurin min ahli bayti muhammadin
with a (Divinely) supported leader from the Household of Muhammad,

‫َص َّلٰى ٱلَّلُه َع َلْيِه َو آِلِه‬

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi
peace of Allah be upon him and his Household.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْج َع ْلِني ِع ْنَدَك َو ِج يهًا‬

allahumma ij`alni `indaka wajihan
O Allah, (please) make me illustrious in Your sight

‫ِبٱْلُح َس ْي ِن َع َلْيِه ٱلَّس َالُم ِفي ٱلُّد ْنَيا َو ٱآلِخ َرِة‬

bilhusayni `alayhi alssalamu fi alddunya wal-akhirati
in the name of al-Husayn, peace be upon him, in this world and in the Hereafter.

‫َيا َأَبا َعْبِد ٱلَّلِه‬

ya aba `abdillahi
O Abu-`Abdullah,

‫ِإِّني َأَتَقَّرُب ِإَلٰى ٱلَّلِه َو ِإَلٰى َر ُسوِلِه‬

inni ataqarrabu ila allahi wa ila rasulihi
I do seek nearness to Allah, to His Messenger,

‫َو ِإَلٰى َأِم يِر ٱْلُم ْؤ ِمِنيَن َو ِإَلٰى َفاِط َم َة‬

wa ila amiri almu'minina wa ila fatimata
to the Commander of the Faithful, to Fatimah,

‫َو ِإَلٰى ٱْلَحَس ِن َو ِإَلْيَك ِبُمَو اَالِتَك‬

wa ila alhasani wa ilayka bimuwalatika
to al-Hasan, and to you by means of loyalty to you

‫َو ِبٱْلَبَر اَءِة (ِمَّم ْن َقاَتَلَك‬

wa bilbara'ati (mimman qatalaka
and by means of repudiation of those who fought against you

‫َو َنَصَب َلَك ٱْلَح ْر َب‬

wa nasaba laka alharba
and incurred your hostility,

‫َو ِبٱْلَبَر اَءِة ِمَّم ْن َأَّس َس َأَس اَس ٱلُّظْلِم َو ٱْلَجْو ِر َع َلْيُك ْم‬
wa bilbara'ati mimman assasa asasa alzzulmi waljawri `alaykum
and repudiation of those who laid the basis of persecution and wronging against you
all.

‫)َو َأْبَر ُأ ِإَلٰى ٱلَّلِه َو ِإَلٰى َر ُسوِلِه‬

wa abra'u ila allahi wa ila rasulihi)
I also repudiate, in the presence of Allah and His Messenger,

‫ِمَّم ْن َأَّس َس َأَس اَس ٰذ ِلَك‬

mimman assasa asasa dhalika
those who laid the basis of all that,

‫َو َبَنٰى َع َلْيِه ُبْنَياَنُه‬

wa bana `alayhi bunyanahu
established their foundations on it,

‫َو َج َر ٰى ِفي ُظْلِمِه َو َجْو ِرِه َع َلْيُك ْم َو علٰى َأْش َياِع ُك ْم‬
wa jara fi zulmihi wa jawrihi `alaykum wa `ala ashya`ikum
and continued in wronging and persecuting you and your adherents.

‫َبِرْئُت ِإَلٰى ٱلَّلِه َو ِإَلْيُك ْم ِم ْنُهْم‬

bari'tu ila allahi wa ilaykum minhum
In the presence of Allah and you all do I repudiate these.

‫َو َأَتَقَّرُب ِإَلٰى ٱلَّلِه ُثَّم ِإَلْيُك ْم‬

wa ataqarrabu ila allahi thumma ilaykum
And I seek nearness to Allah and then to you all

‫ِبُمَو اَالِتُك ْم َو ُمَو اَالِة َو ِلِّيُك ْم‬

bimuwalatikum wa muwalati waliyyikum
by means of declaring loyalty to you and to your loyalists

‫َو ِبٱْلَبَر اَءِة ِم ْن َأْع َداِئُك ْم‬

wa bilbara'ati min a`da'ikum
and declaring repudiation of your enemies
‫َو ٱلَّناِص ِبيَن َلُك ُم ٱْلَح ْر َب‬
walnnasibina lakum alharba
and those who incur animosity of you

‫َو ِبٱْلَبَر اَءِة ِم ْن َأْش َياِعِهْم َو َأْتَباِعِهْم‬

wa bilbara'ati min ashya`ihim wa atba`ihim
and repudiation of their adherents and followers.

‫َس اَلَم ُك ْم‬ ‫ِإِّني ِس ْلٌم ِلَم ْن‬

inni silmun liman salamakum
I am verily at peace with those who have been at peace with you,

‫َو َح ْر ٌب ِلَم ْن َح اَرَبُك ْم‬

wa harbun liman harabakum
I am at war against those who fought against you,

‫َو َو ِلٌّي ِلَم ْن َو اَالُك ْم‬

wa waliyyun liman walakum
loyalist to those who have been loyalist to you,

‫َو َع ُد ٌّو ِلَم ْن َعاَداُك ْم‬

wa `aduwwun liman `adakum
and enemy of those who have shown enmity towards you.

‫َفَأْس َأُل ٱلَّلَه ٱَّلِذ ي َأْك َر َم ِني ِبَم ْع ِر َفِتُك ْم‬

fa'as'alu allaha alladhi akramani bima`rifatikum
So, I beseech Allah Who has endued me with the honor of recognizing you

‫َو َم ْع ِر َفِة َأْو ِلَياِئُك ْم‬

wa ma`rifati awliya'ikum
and recognizing your loyalists

‫َو َر َز َقِنَي ٱْلَبَر اَء َة ِم ْن َأْع َداِئُك ْم‬

wa razaqani albara'ata min a`da'ikum
and Who conferred upon me with repudiation of your enemies,

‫َأْن َيْج َع َلِني َم َع ُك ْم ِفي ٱلُّد ْنَيا َو ٱآلِخ َرِة‬

an yaj`alani ma`akum fi alddunya wal-akhirati
to include me with you in this world and in the Hereafter

‫َو َأْن ُيَثِّبَت ِلي ِع ْنَد ُك ْم َقَد َم ِص ْد ٍق‬

wa an yuthabbita li `indakum qadama sidqin
and to make firm step of honesty for me with you

‫ِفي ٱلُّد ْنَيا َو ٱآلِخ َرِة‬

fi alddunya wal-akhirati
in this world and in the Hereafter.

‫َو َأْس َأُلُه َأْن ُيَبِّلَغ ِنَي ٱْلَم َقاَم ٱْلَم ْح ُم وَد َلُك ْم ِع ْنَد ٱلَّلِه‬
wa as'aluhu an yuballighani almaqama almahmuda lakum `inda allahi
I also beseech Him to make me attain the praiseworthy status that you enjoy with
Allah

‫َو َأْن َيْر ُزَقِني َطَلَب َثْأِري‬

wa an yarzuqani talaba tha'ri
and to bestow upon me with the chance to take my own vengeance

‫َم َع ِإَم اِم ُهدًٰى َظاِهٍر‬

ma`a imami hudan zahirin
with a leader of true guidance who is (Divinely) sustained

‫َناِط ٍق ِبٱْلَح ِّق ِم ْنُك ْم‬

natiqin bilhaqqi minkum
and expressing the truth from among you.

‫َو َأْس َأُل ٱلَّلَه ِبَح ِّقُك ْم‬

wa as'alu allaha bihaqqikum
I also beseech Allah in your names

‫َو ِبٱلَّش ْأِن ٱَّلِذ ي َلُك ْم ِع ْنَد ُه‬

wa bilshsha'ni alladhi lakum `indahu
and in the name of the standing that you enjoy with Him

‫ِبُك ْم‬ ‫َأْن ُيْع ِط َيِني ِبُمَص اِبي‬

an yu`tiyani bimusabi bikum
to recompense me for my commiserations for you

‫َأْفَضَل َم ا ُيْع ِط ي ُمَص ابًا ِبُمِص يَبِتِه‬

afdala ma yu`ti musaban bimusibatihi
with the most favorite thing that He ever gives as compensation for misfortunes
that has afflicted anyone.

‫ُمِص يَبًة َم ا َأْع َظَم َها‬

musibatan ma a`zamaha
(Your) misfortune has been so astounding

‫َو َأْع َظَم َر ِزَّيَتَها ِفي ٱِإل ْسَالِم‬

wa a`zama raziyyataha fi al-islami
and so catastrophic for Islam

‫َو ِفي َجِم يِع ٱلَّس َم اَو اِت َو ٱَألْر ِض‬

wa fi jami`i alssamawati wal-ardi
and for all the heavens and the entire earth.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْج َع ْلِني ِفي َم َقاِم ي ٰه َذ ا‬

allahumma ij`alni fi maqami hadha
O Allah, (please) make me in this situation of mine

‫ِمَّم ْن َتَناُلُه ِم ْنَك َص َلَو اٌت َو َر ْح َم ٌة َوَم ْغ ِفَر ٌة‬

mimman tanaluhu minka salawatun wa rahmatun wa maghfiratun
one of those who receive blessings, mercy, and forgiveness from You.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْج َع ْل َم ْح َياَي َم ْح َيا ُمَحَّمٍد َو آِل ُمَحَّمٍد‬

allahumma ij`al mahyaya mahya muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
O Allah, (please) make me live my lifetime in the same way as Muhammad and
Muhammad’s Household lived

‫َو َمَم اِتي َمَم اَت ُمَحَّمٍد َو آِل ُمَحَّمٍد‬

wa mamati mamata muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
and make me die on the same principles on which Muhammad and Muhammad’s Household
died.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ِإَّن ٰه َذ ا َيْو ٌم‬

allahumma inna hadha yawmun
O Allah, this day

‫َتَبَّرَك ْت ِبِه َبُنو ُأَم َّيَة‬

tabarrakat bihi banu umayyata
has been regarded as blessed day by the descendants of Umayyah

‫َو ٱْبُن آِكَلِة ٱَألكَباِد‬

wabnu akilati al-akbadi
and by the son of the liver-eater woman,

‫ٱلَّلِع يُن ٱْبُن ٱلَّلِع يِن‬

alla`inu ibnu alla`ini
the accursed and son of the accursed

‫َع َلٰى ِلَس اِنَك َو ِلَس اِن َنِبِّيَك‬

`ala lisanika wa lisani nabiyyika
by the tongue of You and by the tongue of Your Prophet,

‫َص َّلٰى ٱلَّلُه َع َلْيِه َو آِلِه‬

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi
Allah’s peace be upon him,

‫ِفي ُك ِّل َم ْو ِط ٍن َو َم ْو ِقٍف‬

fi kulli mawtinin wa mawqifin
on every occasion and in every situation,

‫َو َقَف ِفيِه َنِبُّيَك َص َّلٰى ٱلَّلُه َع َلْيِه َو آِلِه‬

waqafa fihi nabiyyuka salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi
which Your Prophet, Allah’s peace be upon him, attended.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْلَع ْن َأَبا ُس ْفَياَن َو ُمَع اِو َيَة َو َيزيَد ْبَن ُمَع اِوَيَة‬
allahumma il`an aba sufyana wa mu`awiyata wa yazida bna mu`awiyata
O Allah, pour curses upon Abu-Sufyan, Mu`awiyah, and Yazid son of Mu`awiyah.

‫َع َلْيِهْم ِم ْنَك ٱلَّلْعَنُة َأَبَد ٱآلِبِد يَن‬

`alayhim minka alla`natu abada al-abidina
May Your curse be upon them incessantly and everlastingly.

‫َو ٰه َذ ا َيْو ٌم َفِر َح ْت ِبِه آُل ِزَياٍد َو آُل َم ْر َو اَن‬

wa hadha yawmun farihat bihi alu ziyadin wa alu marwana
This is the day on which the family of Ziyad and the family of Marwan gloated

‫ِبَقْتِلِهُم ٱْلُحَسْيَن َص َلَو اُت ٱلَّلِه َع َلْي ِه‬

biqatlihim alhusayna salawatu allahi `alayhi
because they had killed al-Husayn, Allah’s blessings be upon him.

‫َالَّلُهَّم َفَض اِع ْف َع َلْيِهُم ٱلَّلْعَن ِم ْنَك‬

allahumma fada`if `alayhim alla`na minka
So, O Allah, pour frequent curses upon them

) ‫َو ٱْلَع َذ اَب (ٱَألِليَم‬

wal`adhaba (al-alima)
and double for them the painful chastisement.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ِإِّني َأَتَقَّرُب ِإَلْيَك ِفي ٰهَذ ا ٱْلَيْو ِم‬

allahumma inni ataqarrabu ilayka fi hadha alyawmi
O Allah, I do seek nearness to You on this day,

‫َو ِفي َم ْو ِقِفي ٰه َذ ا‬

wa fi mawqifi hadha
on this occasion,

‫َو َأَّياِم َحَياِتي‬

wa ayyami hayati
and on all the days of my lifetime,

‫ِبٱْلَبَر اَءِة ِم ْنُهْم َو ٱلَّلْعَنِة َع َلْيِهْم‬

bilbara'ati minhum walla`nati `alayhim
by repudiating these and invoking Your curses upon them,

‫َو ِبٱْلُمَو اَالِة ِلَنِبِّيَك َو آِل َنِبِّيَك‬

wa bilmuwalati linabiyyika wa ali nabiyyika
and by declaring loyalty to Your Prophet and Your Prophet’s Household,

‫َع َلْيِه َو َع َلْيِهُم ٱلَّس َالُم‬

`alayhi wa `alayhim alssalamu
peace be upon him and them.

You may then repeat the following Laan ** one hundred times:
‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْلَع ْن َأَّوَل َظاِلٍم‬
allahumma il`an awwala zalimin
O Allah, pour curses upon the foremost persecutor

‫َظَلَم َح َّق ُمَحَّمٍد َو آِل ُمَحَّمٍد‬

zalama haqqa muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
who usurped the right of Muhammad and Muhammad’s Household

‫َو آِخ َر َتاِبٍع َلُه َع َلٰى ٰذ ِلَك‬

wa akhira tabi`in lahu `ala dhalika
and the last follower who acceded to his deed.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْلَع ِن ٱْلِع َص اَبَة ٱَّلِتي َج اَهَد ِت ٱْلُحَسْيَن‬

allahumma il`an al`isabata allati jahadat alhusayna
O Allah, pour curses upon the gang that struggled against al-Husayn

‫َو َشاَيَع ْت َوَباَيَع ْت َو َتاَبَع ْت َع َلٰى َقْتِلِه‬

wa shaya`at wa baya`at wa taba`at `ala qatlihi
and who supported each other against him, paid homage to his enemies, and
participated in slaying him.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْلَع ْنُهْم َجِم يعًا‬

allahumma il`anhum jami`an
O Allah, pour curses upon all of them.

You may then repeat the following salam ** one hundred times:
‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلْيَك َيا َأَبا َعْبِد ٱلَّلِه‬
alssalamu `alayka ya aba `abdillahi
Peace be upon you, O Abu-`Abdullah

‫َو َع َلٰى ٱَألْر َو اِح ٱَّلِتي َح َّلْت ِبِفَناِئَك‬

wa `ala al-arwahi allati hallat bifina'ika
and upon the souls that gathered in your courtyard.

‫َع َلْيَك ِم ِّني َس َالُم ٱلَّلِه َأَبدًا‬

`alayka minni salamu allahi abadan
Peace of Allah be upon you from me forever

‫َم ا َبقيُت َوَبِقَي ٱلَّلْيُل َو ٱلَّنَهاُر‬

ma baqitu wa baqiya allaylu walnnaharu
as long as I am existent and as long as there are day and night.
‫َو َال َجَع َلُه ٱلَّلُه آِخ َر ٱْلَع ْهِد ِم ِّني ِلِزَياَرِتُك ْم‬
wa la ja`alahu allahu akhira al`ahdi minni liziyaratikum
May Allah not cause this (visit) to be the last of my visit to you (all).

‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلٰى ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬

alssalamu `ala alhusayni
Peace be upon al-Husayn,

‫َو َع َلٰى َع ِلِّي ْب ِن ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬

wa `ala `aliyyi bni alhusayni
upon `Ali ibn al-Husayn,

‫َو َع َلٰى َأْو َالِد ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬

wa `ala awladi alhusayni
upon the sons of al-Husayn,

‫َو َع َلٰى َأْص َح اِب ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬

wa `ala ashabi alhusayni
and upon the companions of al-Husayn.

You may then say the following :

‫َالَّلُهَّم ُخ َّص َأْنَت َأَّوَل َظاِلٍم ِبٱلَّلْع ِن ِم ِّني‬
allahumma khussa anta awwala zalimin billa`ni minni
O Allah, pour special curses on the foremost persecutor

‫َو ٱْبَد ْأ ِبِه َأَّو اًل‬

wabda' bihi awwalan
and begin with him first,

‫ُثَّم ٱْلَع ِن ٱلَّثاِنَي َو ٱلَّثاِلَث َو ٱلَّراِبَع‬

thumma il`an alththaniya walththalitha walrrabi`a
and then pour curses on the second, the third, and the fourth.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْلَع ْن َيِزيَد َخ اِم سًا‬

allahumma il`an yazida khamisan
O Allah, curse Yazid fifthly,

‫َو ٱْلَع ْن ُع َبْيَد ٱلَّلِه ْبَن ِزَياٍد َو ٱْبَن َم ْر َج اَنَة‬

wal`an `ubaydallahi bna ziyadin wabna marjanata
and curse `Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad, the son of Marjanah,

‫َو ُع َم َر ْبَن َس ْع ٍد َوِش ْم رًا‬

wa `umara bna sa`din wa shimran
`Umar ibn Sa`d, Shimr,

‫َو آَل َأِبي ُس ْفَياَن َو آَل ِزَياٍد َو آَل َم ْر َو اَن‬

wa ala abi sufyana wa ala ziyadin wa ala marwana
the family of Abu-Sufyan, the family of Ziyad, and the family of Marwan

‫ِإَلٰى َيْو ِم ٱْلِقَياَم ِة‬

ila yawmi alqiyamati
up to the Resurrection Day.

You may then prostrate yourself and say the following words :
‫َالَّلُهَّم َلَك ٱْلَحْم ُد‬
allahumma laka alhamdu
O Allah, all praise be to You;

‫َحْمَد ٱلَّش اِكِريَن َلَك َع َلٰى ُمَص اِبِهْم‬

hamda alshshakirina laka `ala musabihim
the praise of those who thank You for their misfortunes.

‫َاْلَحْم ُد ِلَّلِه َع َلٰى َع ِظ يِم َر ِزَّيِتي‬

alhamdu lillahi `ala `azimi raziyyati
All praise be to Allah for my great misfortune.

‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْر ُز ْقِني َشَفاَع َة ٱْلُح َس ْي ِن َيْو َم ٱْلُو ُروِد‬

allahumma irzuqni shafa`ata alhusayni yawma alwurudi
O Allah, (please) grant me the intercession of al-Husayn on the Day of Coming (to
You)

‫َو َثِّبْت ِلي َقَد َم ِص ْد ٍق ِع ْنَدَك‬

wa thabbit li qadama sidqin `indaka
and make for me with You a firm step of honesty

‫َم َع ٱْلُح َس ْيِن َو َأْص َح اِب ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬

ma`a alhusayni wa ashabi alhusayni
with al-Husayn and the companions of al-Husayn

‫ٱَّلذيَن َبَذ ُلوٱ ُمَهَج ُهْم ُد وَن ٱْلُح َس ْيِن َع َلْيِه ٱلَّس َالُم‬
alladhina badhalu muhajahum duna alhusayni
who sacrificed their souls in defense of al-Husayn, peace be upon him.

**One of the narrations state that in case one is unable to recite 100 times the
complete "Laan " & the "Sawlaat" the one may recite the last lines of the same 100
times as under:
‫َالَّلُهَّم ٱْلَع ْنُهْم َجِم يعًا‬
allahumma il`anhum jami`an
O Allah, pour curses upon all of them.

and
‫َالَّس َالُم َع َلٰى ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬
alssalamu `ala alhusayni
Peace be upon al-Husayn,

‫َو َع َلٰى َع ِلِّي ْب ِن ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬

wa `ala `aliyyi bni alhusayni
upon `Ali ibn al-Husayn,

‫َو َع َلٰى َأْو َالِد ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬

wa `ala awladi alhusayni
upon the sons of al-Husayn,

‫َو َع َلٰى َأْص َح اِب ٱْلُح َس ْيِن‬

wa `ala ashabi alhusayni
and upon the companions of al-Husayn.

Hadith for shorter form of laan and salwat

‫آیت‌الله سّید علی موّح د ابطحی در پاورقی کتاب «شفاء الّصدور فی شرح زیارت العاشور» نوشته‌اند آیت الله حاج میرزا ابوالفضل‬
‫) روایت شریف زیر را در شیوه خواندن زیارت عاشورا نقل می‌نمایند‬۱۳۱۶ ‫طهرانی (متوفی‬:
‫َع ْن َع ِلِّی ْبِن ُمَحَّمٍد اْلهادی علیِه الِّسالُم َاَّنُه قاَل‬:
‫َم ْن َقَرَء َلْعَن ِزیاَرِه اْلعاُش وراء اْلَم شُهوَرِه َم َّر ًه واِح َد ًه ُثَّم قاَل‬:
«‫الّلُهَّم اْلَع ْنُهْم َج میعًا ِتْسعًا َو ِتْسعیَن َم َّر ًه» کان َک َم ْن َقَر َئُه ِم أَه َم َّر ًه؛‬
‫ و َع َلی َاْص حاِب اْلُح َس ْی ِن‬، ‫ َو َع َلی َاْو الِد اْلُح َس ْی ِن‬، ‫ َو َع َلی َع ِلِّی ْب ِن اْلُح َس ْی ِن‬، ‫ «الَّسالُم َع َلی اْلُح َس ْی ِن‬: ‫َو َم ْن َقَرَء َس الَم ها َم َّر ًه واِح َد ًه ُثَّم قاَل‬
‫َو ِتْسعیَن َم َّر ًه» کاَن َک َم ْن َقَر َئُه ُم أًه تاَّم ًه ِم ْن َاَّو ِلِهما ِاَلی آِخ ِرِهما‪۱.‬‬ ‫ِتْسعًا‬
‫‪:‬سپس آیه الله موّح د ابطحی در توضیح روایت چنین می‌فرمایند‬
‫‪َ:‬و َقْد ُذ ِکَر ِلهِذِه الِّرواَیِه ِاْح ِتماالِن‬
‫‪.‬ـ َاْن َیکُوَن «ِتْسعًا َو ِتْسعیَن َم َّر ًه» َبیانًا ِلَع َدد ‪۱‬‬
‫َج میعًا ِتْسعًا َو ِتسعیَن َم َّر ًه» َو ِفی اَّلسالِم َیقُوُل ‪« :‬الَّسالُم َع َلی ‪۲‬‬ ‫ـ َاْن َیکُوَن َتِتَّم ًه ِلَّلْع ِن َو الَّسالِم ‪َ ،‬و َع َلْی ِه ُیْقَرُء هَکذا‪« :‬الّلُهَّم الـَع ْنُهْم‬
‫اْلُح َس ْی ِن ِتْسعًا َو ِتْسعیَن َم َّر ًه» َو َیُک وُن َنظیَر الَّتهلیالِت اْلواِرَد ِه فی‬ ‫اْلُح َس ْی ِن َو َع َلی َع ِلِّی ْب ِن اْلُح َس ْیِن َو َع َلی َاْو الِد اْلُح َس ْی ِن َو َع َلی َاْص حاِب‬
‫« ِالَه ِاّال الله َعَدَد الّلیالی َو الُّدُهور»‪َ ،‬و اللُه اْلعاِلُم‬ ‫ِذ ی الَح َّج ِه ‪ :‬ال‬ ‫َاّیاِم‬
