Quegli insetti, infatti, erano esemplari
sotto suggerimento dell’amico e scienziato Woo-
riodo.

Europe and in America in the 19th Century, by
means of the import of bananas from tropical areas.
Those insects enjoyed big success also thanks to the
American biologist William Castle who, following
his friend and scientist Woodworth, used them for
the first time as laboratory test animals; he realized
that thanks to its small dimensions and extraordinary
reproductive activity, these gnats were valid and not
very expensive instruments for research, so cheap
that a hundred of them could live inside an empty
bottle of milk for a long period.
