Often,gettingjusttherightamountofelasticisthetrickiestpartof
makingagoodadultAIOclothdiaper.Eachbrand,width,andstyleof
elasticstretchesatadifferentrate,thereforeitisimpossibleformeto
provideastandardelasticlengthchart.Thechartbelowshowsthe
lengthbetweenelastictackingpointsonthediaper.Thisisthelength
theelasticwillbewhenfullystretched.Generally,youwillwantto
stretchtheelastictothemaximumsoitiscompletelytaught.Youcan
adjustthisifdesired;justkeepinmind,doingsowilllikelyalterthesizerangeabit.Ioftenfind
takingthefullytaughtlengthanddividingthatby2givesmeagoodnumbertostartwith.

Onequarterinchseamallowanceisincludedonallpatternpieces.Ifyouareserging
orusingotherbindingmethods,youcanreducethepatternsizebeforecuttingortrim
seamallowanceifdesired.Personally,fordiapers,Ineverdothis.Thelittleextrafabric
doesNOTaffectthediaperandneverbotherwith
removingit.Feelfreetodoasyouwish,butdonot
feelyouMUSTremovetheseamallowance.

1. IfinditeasiertostitchALLinnersoakerlayerstogetherFIRSTbeforebeginningassembly
ofactualdiaper.ItmakesassemblyMUCHsimplerandfaster.
a. Justtakeallyourinnersoakerfabriclayersandstackthemtogetherinwhatever
orderyoudesire.Stitchthemtogethersecurelyusingastandardstraightstitch.
i. Besuretostitchsothelayersdonotcomeapartlaterduringthewash
ANDsotheycannottwistorturnduringthewashasthiscanmakethe
diaperveryuncomfortabletowear.
2. Makesureyouhaveplentyofroom;whenlaidoutflat,thisdiaperisverywide,and
havinganiceclearandopenareatoworkwillmakeassemblysomuchnicer.
3. Becarefulwhenchoosingtheamountofelastictouse.Toomuchandthediaperwillbe
toolooseandlikelytoleak.Toolittleandthediaperwillbetightanduncomfortable.
YoucanalwaysPINtheelasticinwithsafetypinsFIRSTtotest,thenwhenyouarehappy
withthestretch,sewthemdown.DontforgettoMEASUREtheamountofelasticyou
usedANDwriteitdownonyourpatternsothatnexttimeyouwillnotneedtodothis
extrastepagain.

Followthesestepstoassembleyourdiaper:

Place1hook&1looptapetabtogetherbacktoback
Stitchinplaceusingastraightstitchalongtheperimeter,veryclosetotheedgeofthe
tape(Isuggestyoudoublestitchtheseedgesforaddedstrength).
Repeatprocessuntilbothtabsaresewnbacktoback(ifusing2tape,youwillhave4
tapesinsteadoftwo).
PositionandsecuretheVelcrolaundrytabsontherightsideofouterdiaperlayerwithin
markings,facingout.Stitchinplace.
PositionandsecurethefrontVelcrostrip(orstripsifusing2tape)ontherightsideof
theouterdiaperlayerwithinmarkings,facingout.Stitchinplace.
Stacklayersoneontopoftheotherasfollows:
1. Placewaterprooflayerdownfirst
2. ThenplaceFashionfabric(theoutermostfabric)ontopofwaterprooflayer
(rightsidefacingwaterprooflayer)
3. Thenplacethebottomlayer(theonethatwillbenexttobabysskin)rightside
downontopofFashionfabric.
4. Nowplacesewninnerabsorbentlayersontopofthestack.

Markstartingandstoppingplacementforsewingallowingafewinchesopentocreate
anopeningholeforyoutoturnthediaperrightsideoutlater.Irecommendleavingthe
frontofthediaperopenabovetheVelcrotape.
PositionthebacktobackVelcrosidetabsontopofrightsideofouterlayerwithin
markings,roundededgesfacinginwardandhooksidesfacingup.
Stitchalongseamlinetosecureinplace.Thenstitchalongperimeterinchawayfrom
edgeoffabricaroundentirediaper.REMEMBERtoleavetheholeinfrontsoyoucan
turnthediaperinsideout.

Foreachpieceofelastic,lineupthemarkingononeendoftheelasticwiththe
placementmarkingonthepatternpiece.Elasticshouldbepositionedontheouteredge
ofthediaperperimeter,withintheseamallowance.
o Tackdowntheelasticendbysewingafewstitchesontopofthemarkingwitha
zigzagstitch.Withstitchlengthsetclosetozero.Useyourmachinesreverse
stitchtoreinforcethestitch.
o Repeattheprocessontheotherendsofeachelasticpiece.DONOTSEWTHE
ENTIRELENGTHOFELASTICDOWNTOTHEDIAPER.
Turndiaperinsideoutthroughtheholeyouleftatthefrontofthediaper.Smoothout
andflattenallcorners.
Topstitcharoundperimeterofthediaper.
o Whenyoureacheachelasticpiece,stopwiththeneedledown.
Raisethepresserfoot,withoutliftingtheneedleandturnthefabricso
thattheelasticishorizontaltoyou.
Stitchdowntwoorthreestitchestotheveryedgeofthediaper.
Usethebackstitchtoretracebackuptotheseamline.Stopwiththe
needledown.
Turnfabricbacktoverticaldirectionandpullelastictightbygrabbing
eachendatthetackingpoint.
Sewalongsidetheelasticveryslowly,keepingtheelasticpulledtight.
Avoidsewingontopoftheelastic.Ifyoudothisproperly,theelasticwill
beinsideacasingandwillNOThaveANYstitchesinitexceptatthe
tackingpoints.
Whentheendisreached,repeatstep1and2,thenturnfabricbackto
verticalandcontinuestitchingperimeter.
o Continuesewingaroundperimeterofdiaperfollowingaboveinstructionsfor
sewingaroundeachelasticcasinguntilyoureachfrontofdiaperwhereopening
islocated.
Foldseamallowanceunderatopeningandtopstitchtheopeningclosed
whilesewingdiaperperimeter.
Continueuntilentireperimeterofdiaperhasbeentopstitched.
