GIVE A BIKE CHANGE A LIFE

Pensa a quello che la tua bike fa per te. Probabilmente niente in confronto a quello che una bici potrebbe fare per qualcuno in un Paese in via di sviluppo... Su una bicicletta, una persona pu andare cinque volte pi veloce che camminando, pu viaggiare cinque volte pi lontano, e pu caricare un peso cinque volte superiore di quanto possa fare a piedi. Immaginate cosa questo potrebbe significare per le persone che vivono in zone remote di un Paese in via di sviluppo. Gli operatori sanitari, medici e infermieri possono viaggiare pi lontano e raggiungere pi persone. I bambini potrebbero percorrere la distanza per arrivare a scuola. Il recupero di acqua pulita potrebbe richiedere meno tempo. Le merci possono essere trasportate in quantit superiori e pi rapidamente. Le biciclette possono davvero cambiare la vita. Wheels 4 Life unorganizzazione non-profit istituita nel 2005 da Hans e Carmen Rey. Inizialmente lobiettivo era di raccogliere fondi a sufficienza per 100 biciclette. Ora, quasi sette anni pi tardi, hanno fornito oltre 3.300 biciclette, aiutando le persone e le comunit in circa 20 paesi diversi in tutto il mondo. Durante questo viaggio abbiamo incontrato molte persone che ci hanno chiesto una bici. Abbiamo dato via 54 biciclette in quel viaggio. Un anno dopo siamo tornati per distribuire altre 44 biciclette e allo stesso tempo abbiamo aperto le nostra prima officina meccanica Wheels for Life. Il giorno di apertura abbiamo fatto una festa e la gente venuta dai villaggi intorno. E stato meraviglioso per me ed Hans vedere tanta felicit e tanti sorrisi, stato fantastico vedere tante persone felici grazie a ci che stavamo facendo. Tutti hanno condiviso le bici e non cera gelosia quando qualcuno ha ricevuto una bicicletta e un altro no, solo tanta felicit. E stato un momento molto particolare sia per me che per Hans, un momento che nessuno di noi potr mai dimenticare. It probably pales in comparison with what a bike could do for someone in a developing country, doesnt it? On a bike, a person can travel five times faster, they can travel five times further, and they can carry five times more than they could by foot. Imagine what this could mean for people living in a remote area in a developing country. Healthcare workers, doctors, and nurses could travel further and reach more people. Children could travel the long distance to get to a school. Fetching clean water could take less time. Goods could be transported in greater quantities, further and quicker. Bikes can change lives. Wheels 4 Life is a non-profit charity set up in 2005 by Hans and Carmen Rey. Back then, they were hoping just to raise enough money for 100 bikes. Now, almost seven years later, they have provided over 3,300 bikes helping people and communities in around twenty different countries around the globe. While there we visited and met many people that asked us to provide them with a bike. We gave 54 bikes away on that trip. A year later we returned and happily distributed another 44 bikes and at the same time we opened our first Wheels 4 Life Bicycle and Repair shop. On the day of the opening we had a party and people came from villages all around. It was wonderful for Hans and I to see so much happiness and laughter, to see so many people helped, so many people excited about what we had done, what we were doing and what we promised we would continue to do. Everyone shared the bikes and there was no jealousy when someone received a bike and another did not, just happiness and thanks.
