Il Conservatorio “G. Nicolini” di Piacenza bandisce una Call for Scores dedicata alla
composizione per ensemble di studenti.
CRITERI DI PARTECIPAZIONE
ORGANICO
I compositori devono inviare un brano per ensemble (con direttore) con un minimo di 9 e un massimo
di 15 esecutori scelti tra i seguenti:

- flauto (3 esecutori - 1 anche ottavino e 1 anche flauto in sol)
- clarinetto in si bemolle (2 esecutori - 1 anche clarinetto basso)
- sax (3 esecutori: 1 soprano, 1 alto, 1 tenore)
- tromba (2 esecutori)
- corno (2 esecutori)
- percussioni (4 esecutori)
- chitarra classica (4 esecutori - 1 anche chitarra elettrica)
- pianoforte (1 esecutore)
- arpa (1 esecutore)
- clavicembalo (1 esecutore)
- violino (2 esecutori)
- viola (1 esecutore)
- violoncello (1 esecutore)
- contrabbasso (1 esecutore)
- voce (1 esecutore: sop, mezzo, ten, bar - l’eventuale testo utilizzato deve essere di pubblico do-
minio, o in alternativa l’autore deve fornire una liberatoria per il suo utilizzo)
- elettronica: è consentito l’uso di elettronica in formato fixed media (no live electronics)
Percussioni disponibili: marimba, vibrafono, xilofono, 4 timpani, 8 toms, 3 tam tam, 3 rullanti, gran
cassa, batteria, congas, bongos, 3 djembe, 5 wood-blocks, campanacci, crotali (1 ottava), timbales,
piatti sospesi, campane tubolari, guiro, windchimes, 2 cajon.

Piacenza International Call for Scores 2023

The "G. Nicolini" Conservatory of Piacenza announces a Call for Scores dedicated to
composition for student ensemble.
PARTICIPATION CRITERIA
- The call for scores is open to composers of any age and nationality, excluding teachers and
students of the Conservatory of Piacenza.
- Applicants may submit only one score.
- A maximum of 5 works will be selected.
- The selected works will be performed by the Nicolini Contemporary Ensemble, therefore the
applicants must consider the technical-instrumental skills of students enrolled in Bachelor and
Master courses. Pieces that are technically too demanding will not be taken into consideration.
- The compositions may not exceed a duration of 10 minutes. The duration of the piece must be
indicated in the score.
- The scores must be sent in pdf format and must be perfectly legible. Scores declared
unreadable by the jury will be excluded from the selection.
- Composers may indicate a link (SoundCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) to a recording of the
piece (possibly also a simulation). Links must remain active until the selected scores are
communicated. The recording is not mandatory.
- The submitted piece may have already been performed and awarded in other competitions but
must be unpublished. If selected, composers must also submit a release for performance and for
audio and video recordings.
- The jury's decision is final. After the announcement of the selected pieces, the jury will not give
any feedback (to the excluded applicants).
- There is no entry fee.
INSTRUMENTATION
Composers must submit a piece for conducted ensemble with a minimum of 9 and a maximum of
15 instruments chosen from the following list:

- flute (3 performers - 1also piccolo and 1 also flute in G)
- B flat clarinet (2 performers - 1 also bass clarinet)
- sax (3 performers: 1 soprano, 1 alto, 1 tenor)
- trumpet (2 performers)
- horn in F (2 performers)
- percussion (4 performers)
- classic guitar (4 performers - 1 also electric guitar)
- piano (1 performer)
- harp (1 performer)
- harpsichord (1 performer)
- violin (2 performers)
- viola (1 performer)
- cello (1 performer)
- double bass (1 performer)
- voice (1 performer: sop, mezzo, ten, bar - any text used must be of public domain, or alterna-
tively the author must provide a release for its use)
- the use of electronics in fixed media format (no live electronics) is permitted.
Available percussion: marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, 4 timpani, 8 toms, 3 tam tam, 3 snare
drums, bass drum, drum set, congas, bongos, 3 djembe, 5 wood-blocks, cowbells, crotales
(1 octave), timbales, cymbals, tubular bells, guiro, windchimes, 2 cajons.

AWARDS
- The selected works will be performed by the Nicolini Contemporary Ensemble - conductor
Roberto Solci - at the “G. Nicolini” Conservatory of Piacenza.
- An audio-video recording of each piece and a podcast with an interview with the selected com-
posers will be produced and made available to the composers and posted on the
Conservatoire's social channels.
- At the end of the concert, the audience will vote for the composer who will be asked to write a
new piece for solo piano, which will be premiered in the next musical season of the Conserva-
tory of Piacenza.
