Philip went to the city of Samaria and told the people

about Christ. As he began telling the people of the

city of Samaria about the Messiah and the wonders
and miracles he himself had seen, many began to
bring the sick and those who were afflicted by evil
spirits, begging him to pray for them. The resulting
miracles caused many to become followers of Jesus.
Filippo discese nella citt di Samaria e predic loro
Cristo. Quando Filippo cominci a parlare alla gente di
Samaria del Messia e dei miracoli che lui stesso aveva
visto, molti cominciarono a portargli ammalati e
persone afflitte da spiriti maligni, implorandolo di

Then God sent an angel to

give instructions to Phillip.
The angel said, Go
south along the desert
road that leads from
Jerusalem to Gaza. So
Philip left.

Allora un angelo del

An important Ethiopian official

happened to be going along that
road in his chariot. He was the
chief treasurer for Candace, the
Queen of Ethiopia. The official had
gone to Jerusalem to worship and
was now on his way home. He was
sitting in his chariot, reading the
book of the prophet Isaiah.

Philip ran up close and asked him,

Do you understand what you are reading?
The official answered, Not really. I need
someone to explain it to me. He then
invited Philip to come up and sit beside him.
Philip explained the good news about Jesus
and the Ethiopian asked to be baptized.

History tells us that apparently the

efforts of this single Ethiopian man
resulted in one of the earliest known
branches of Christianity in Africa that
continues to this day.

La storia ci dice che a quanto pare gli sforzi

At Caesarea there was a man named

Cornelius, a centurion in what was
known as the Italian Regiment. He and all
his family were devout and God-fearing.
One day at about three in the
afternoon he had a
vision. He saw an
angel of God, who
came to him and said,
Cornelius, send men
to Joppa to bring back
a man named Peter.
He is staying with
Simon the tanner,
whose house is by the
sea.
When the angel
who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius
called two of his servants. He told them
everything that had happened and sent
them to Joppa.

Vi era in Cesarea un uomo di nome Cornelio,

centurione della coorte detta Italica.
Questuomo era pio e timorato di Dio con tutta
la sua famiglia.
Un giorno, verso le tre del pomeriggio,
Cornelio ebbe una visione:
vide chiaramente un angelo
di Dio che gli veniva
incontro e gli disse:
Cornelio! Manda degli
uomini a Ioppe e fa venire
un certo Simone,
soprannominato Pietro. Egli
ospite di un tal Simone,
conciatore di pelli, la cui
casa vicino al mare.
Appena l'angelo che gli
parlava se ne fu andato, Cornelio chiam due
dei suoi domestici, di quelli addetti al suo
personale servizio, raccont loro ogni cosa e li
mand a Ioppe.

The next day Peter went up on the

roof of the house to pray and had a
vision. He saw heaven open, and
something came down like a huge
sheet held up by its four corners. In it
were all kinds of animals, snakes, and
birds. A voice said to him, Peter, get up!
Kill these and eat them.
Peter said, Lord, I cant do that! Ive
never eaten anything that is unclean
and not fit to eat.
The voice spoke to him again, When
God says that something can be used for
food, dont
say it isnt
fit to eat.

Il giorno dopo, mentre essi erano in cammino

e stavano avvicinandosi alla citt, Pietro sal sulla
terrazza a pregare e ebbe una visione. Vide il
cielo aperto e qualcosa che scendeva: una specie
di tovaglia grande, tenuta per i quattro angoli,
che arrivava fino a terra. Dentro c'era ogni genere
di animali, di rettili e di uccelli. Allora una voce gli
disse: - Pietro, lzati! Uccidi e mangia!
Pietro rispose: - Non lo far mai, Signore,
perch io non ho mai mangiato nulla di proibito o
di impuro.
Quella voce per la seconda volta gli disse:
- Non devi considerare impuro quel che Dio ha
dichiarato
puro.

Peter was still wondering what all of this meant,

when the men sent by Cornelius came and stood at
the gate. They had found their way to Simons
house and were asking if Simon Peter was staying
there.
While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the
Holy Spirit said to him, Some men are here looking
for you. Hurry down and go with them. Dont worry, I
sent them.

Mentre Pietro cercava di capire il significato di ci

che aveva visto, arrivarono gli uomini di Cornelio. Essi
avevano chiesto dove abitava Pietro e quando furono
presso la porta domandarono ad alta voce: 'Alloggia
qui Simone, detto anche Pietro?'.
Mentre Pietro stava ripensando a quello che aveva
visto, lo Spirito gli disse: 'Senti, ci sono qui alcuni
uomini che ti cercano. lzati e va' con loro senza
paura, perch li ho mandati io da te'.

The next morning, Peter left with the men who

had come from Cornelius and arrived in Caesarea
where Cornelius was waiting for them. He had
also invited his relatives and close friends.
Peter said to them, You know that we Jews
are not allowed to have anything to do with other
people. But God has shown me that he doesnt
think anyone is unclean or unfit. God is pleased
with everyone who worships him and does right,
no matter what nation they come from.
Il giorno dopo, Pietro si mise in viaggio con gli
uomini mandati da Cornelio. Il giorno seguente
arrivarono a Cesara. Cornelio aveva riunito in
casa sua i parenti e gli amici pi intimi e li stava
aspettando.
Pietro disse loro: 'Voi sapete che non lecito a
un Ebreo stare con un pagano o entrare in casa
sua. Ma Dio mi ha mostrato che non si deve evitare
nessun uomo come impuro. Davvero mi rendo conto
che Dio tratta tutti alla stessa maniera: egli infatti
ama tutti quelli che credono in lui e vivono secondo
la sua volont, senza guardare a quale popolo
appartengono.'

Cornelius, his relatives and

his friends believed and
became followers of Jesus.

God will speak to anyone who
has even only a little childlike
faithand He wants to speak
to you.

Cornelio, sua i parenti e gli

amici credettero e divenne
seguaci di Ges.
