La strada per le rovine... Nascita di un festival/Road to Ruins... The dawn of a festival
Road to Ruins, ovvero il quarto album dei Ramones, un disco che segna il passaggio della band icona del punk a sonorit pi mainstream. Siamo nel 1978 e la carica distruttiva della generazione che aveva fatto tabula rasa del gigantismo autocelebrativo del rock si stava lentamente riassorbendo. Un disco essenziale, insomma, pur nella sua intrinseca malinconia. Tradotto in italiano, suona come strada per le rovine, un titolo perfetto per un qualsiasi evento da celebrarsi nella citt delle rovine per eccellenza: Roma. Queste furono le suggestioni che mi motivarono ad intraprendere, in un progetto solitario e autolesionista, lorganizzazione di un festival che aveva lambizione di portare nella Capitale lo spirito autentico del punk originario. Nel cartellone di dodici edizioni, tra il 2006 e il 2011, si sono infatti avvicendati tutti i gruppi superstiti di quella generazione: Crime, Avengers, Sham 69, Dead Boys, Zeros, Kids, Agent Orange, Adolescents Nel frattempo alcune cose erano cambiate, alla mia personale attivit discografica con la Rave Up records, ero diventato, per una serie di imprevedibili coincidenze, anche regista e produttore di documentari musicali per vari canali satellitari. A questo punto, la connessione era diventata quasi immediata. Lidea era quella di affiancare allimpianto tradizionale del festival una ricca ed articolata sezione cinematografica. Per questa operazione avevo ununica persona che poteva supportarmi, il mio amico Anthony Ettorre, da anni instancabile promotore di musica per immagini. Il resto storia e quello che avete tra le mani risulato di questo malsano matrimonio. Hey ho lets go! il grido di battaglia. Fatevi sotto, bastardi! Road to Ruins, the fourth album by Ramones, is the record that marks the passage of this rock icon band to a more mainstream sound. Its 1978, the destructive charge of the generation that blew rock music self-celebrating giantism away was slowly falling back. All in all, a fundamental record, despite its inner melancholy. Translated in Italian, it sounds like a perfect title for any event to be celebrated in the world capital of ruins: Rome. These were the fascinations pushing me to undertake, in a solitaire and almost self-injurying effort, the organization of a festival with the ambition of bringing to Rome the authentic spirit of original punk. In fact, in the chart of the twelve editions, between 2006 and 2011, all the surviving bands of that generation have taken their turn: Crime, Avengers, Sham 69, Dead Boys, Zeros, Kids, Agent Orange, Adolescents... Meanwhile, some things were changing; in addition to my personal activity with Rave Up Records, for some unexplainable coincidences, I had become filmmaker and musical documentary producer for various satellite channels too. At this point, the connection was almost immediate. The idea was to place the traditional setting of the festival side by side to a rich and articulated film section. There was only one person who could support me in this operation, my friend Anthony Ettorre, tireless supporter of music via images. The rest is history, and the result of this sick marriage is what youve got in your hands. Hey ho, lets go! is the battle cry. Come on, bastards! Last but not least, a couple of lines to thank the heroic sponsors that made all of this possible: Flop TV, DeeJay TV, Jack Daniels and Eastpak, these last two perpetual partners of my organizational fevers. Il Road To Ruins Film Festival muove i primi passi proprio come nasce una rocknroll band. La cantina diventa sala cinematografica e le performance si estendono su tutto il territorio metropolitano come a rivendicare limportanza dei luoghi in cui il rock stesso si esprime. Il nostro proposito quello di dar vita a qualcosa che ancora non esiste un Italia, un film festival che diventi una sorta di rock contest delle immagini, in cui fondere stage e backstage suoni e visioni appunto! Questa prima edizione in nome del cinema indipendente, soprattutto italiano, che far vibrare lo schermo per ribadire la sua sorprendente forza rivoluzionaria. Le sezioni tematiche sono solo una parte del ricco contenitore di eventi, fatto di incontri, approfondimenti e performance senza precedenti, reso possibile grazie alle energie infuse da un gruppo emergente di collaboratori volontari e il sostegno necessario di alcuni importanti sponsor. La prima edizione del RTR FF vuole essere diretta, senza compromessi e senza pudori. Non ha bisogno di red carpet o grosse celebrazioni. Vuole divertirsi e fare divertire. Ascoltare con gli occhi e stupire nella sua semplicit. In fin dei conti solo rocknroll ed per questo che ci piace. Eppure alcuni di noi, guardano le stelle. Speriamo di raggiungerle nelle prossime edizioni.

Road to Ruins is taking its first steps just like a rocknroll band does. The basement becomes cinema and performances reach out to the whole urban territory, as to claim the importance of those places where rock express itself. Our aim is to give birth to something thats still missing in Italy: a film festival that become a sort of rock contest of images, to merge stage and backstage... after all, sounds and visions! This first edition is in the name of the independent cinema, mainly Italian, which will blow up the screen to reassert its amazing revolutionary power. Thematic sections are just a part of the wide range of events, made of meetings, in depth examinations and performances never seen before, made possible thanks to the energy of an emerging group of volunteers and the fundamental support of important sponsors. The first edition of RTR FF wants to be direct, without compromises or modesty. It doesnt need any red carpet nor rich celebrations. It just wants to have fun and to be funny. To listen with eyes and daze with its plainness. In the end... its only rocknroll, and we like it. Yet some of us looks up to see the stars. We hope to reach them in next editions.

Gli anni Ottanta italiani, contraddistinti dalla fuoriuscita dagli anni cupi del terrorismo e dallascesa di nuove suggestioni edonistiche, determinano un clima effervescente, spensierato, di grande ed inedita energia. Nel campo della cultura giovanile si assiste alla nascita della cosiddetta New Wave, gruppi musicali che superata la fase pi aspra e nichilista del punk, cercano nuovi linguaggi e diffondono la loro attivit in tutta la penisola: Gaznevada, Litfiba, CCCP, Diaframma, Neon, Underground Life, Bisca, Pankow, Rinf, Moda, Art Fleury, il Great Complotto di Pordenone, Kirlian Camera, e tanti altri. Crollo nervoso un viaggio per frammenti e riflessioni sulla parte degli anni Ottanta pi creativa ed anticonformista, un documentario in tre parti che raccoglie rari video clip, live show ed oltre quaranta interviste a musicisti, giornalisti e produttori discografici.

Pierpaolo De Iulis: Nato ad Ascoli Piceno nel 1969, Pierpaolo De Iulis produttore discografico, regista documentarista e giornalista freelance. Gestisce dal 1999 la Rave Up Records, etichetta discografica dedicata al culto del rock underground americano della fine degli anni 70. Dal 2005 al 2011, ha ideato, girato e prodotto diversi documentari, mandati in onda su canali satellitari Sky e RSI (Radiotelevisione Svizzera Italiana), dedicati prevalentemente allambito musicale. Attualmente impegnato in una serie di progetti per il canale Flop TV di Fox. Tra i suoi lavori, Italo Disco: the Sound of Spaghetti Dance, Italian Hardcore: The Furious Years e Napoli KO.

Born in Ascoli Piceno in 1969, Pierpaolo De Iulis is a record producer, documentary director and freelance journalist. Since 1999 hes the manager of Rave Up Records, label consacrated to the cult of American underground rock of the end of the 70s. From 2005 to 2011 he created, shot and produced several documentaries, broadcasted by Sky satellite channels and RSI (Italian Switzerland Radio and TV channel), mostly dedicated to music. At the moment he is involved in different projects for Fox Network Flop TV channel. Among his works: Italian Disco: the Sound of Spaghetti Dance, Italian Hardcore: The Furious Years and Napoli KO.

Italian 1980s, marked by the exit from the dark years of terrorism and the outburst of new hedonistic ideas, were filled by a bubbling atmosphere, rich of an uncommon energy. Young artists gave birth to the so called New Wave; after getting rid of the harshest and most nihilist phase of punk, lots of bands seek new languages and spread their activity through the whole peninsula: Gaz Nevada, CCCP, Diaframma, Neon, Underground Life, Bisca, Pankow, Rinf, Moda, Art Fleury, the Great Complotto froma Pordenone, Kirlian Camera and many more. Crollo Nervoso is a trip through fragments and reflections of the most creative and unconventional part on the 80s, a documentary in three parts gathering rare clips, live shows and more than 40 interviews to musicians, reporters and film producers.

La Citt di Roma, presa come esempio del vivere urbano moderno, cantata e raccontata dai suoi figli. Romolo e Remo sono gruppi come Controcorente, Ardecore, La nube, Colle der Fomento, Collettivo Angelo Mai e Daniele Silvestri. Un viaggio nella citt attraverso le sue evoluzioni architettoniche ed i generi musicali. I musicisti, oltre che cantori della realt cittadina, sono ciceroni del vivere urbano. Una quotidianit fatta di lavoro, impegno e battaglie sociali.

Ettore Santoro: Ettore Santoro, nato a Pescara nel 1976, vive e risiede a Roma da anni. Si avvicina al cinema con esperienze dirette su set. Inizia gli studi al D.A.M.S. per poi passare a Scienze Politiche. Frequenta corsi di scrittura e regia di cortometraggi. autore di quattro cortometraggi e di un documentario.

Its a trip inside the city through its architectural evolutions and musical genres. Besides being bards of urban reality, musicians are guides through city life. An everyday life made of work, commitment and social fights.

Born in Pescara in 1976, hes been living in Rome for years. He approaches the world of cinema through direct set experiences. After starting D.A.M.S. (Faculty of Art, Music and Performing Arts) he moves to Political Studies. Hes attending short films writing and directing classes, and hes the author of four short films and a documentary.

Che ruolo hanno i festival in Italia? Sono delle semplici parentesi o sono dei punti che aprono nuovi discorsi e nuovi scenari? Sono momenti di intrattenimento puro e sterile o risorse-laboratorio per cambiare vite e direzioni? Sono come le ferie dopo undici mesi di lavoro, unoasi-ghetto in cui sei costretto a divertirti per motivare i precedenti e prossimi undici mesi? Non esiste cultura giovanile che non abbia avuto il suo festival di riferimento. Lanimale che mi porto dentro vuole te un documentario nato durante il MI AMI 2010: un ritratto incredibilmente denso e vario di un mondo in cui musicisti, organizzatori e pubblico, contribuiscono come un solo polmone al respiro di una speranza, di un ambito, di una scelta.

Dsire Restuccia, Carlo Pastore: Videomaker e industrial designer, Dsire Restuccia vive tra Barcelona e Milano. Come videomaker ha lavorato per la televisione e il teatro, come designer ha fondato con gli amici di sempre uno studio di progettazione e un brand. Le piace raccontare storie con le parole, le immagini e gli oggetti. Nato nel 1985, Carlo Pastore lavora tra musica e media. stato caporedattore del sito Rockit.it, VJ di MTV e opinionista televisivo. Attualmente conduce il programma Babylon su Radio 2, suona con la sua band \\\emen ed direttore artistico del MI AMI Festival della Musica Italiana e dei Baci.
Videomaker and industrial designer, Dsire Restuccia lives between Barcelona and Milan. As a videomaker she worked for both TV and theatre; as a designer she founded with lifetime friends a design studio and a brand. She likes telling stories with words, images and objects. Born in 1985, Carlo Pastore works with music and media. Hes been Rockit.it website editorin-chief, VJ for MTV, and TV opinion maker. At the moment he is the anchorman of Radio 2 program Babylon, plays in his band \\\emen and is the artistic director of the MI AMI Italian music and kissing festival.

Whats the role of festivals in Italy? Are they mere digressions or do they actually open new scenarios and discourses? Are they pure and sterile entertaining moments or resources to change lives and directions? Are they like vacation after 11 months of work, a ghetto-oasis where people are forced to have fun to give the previous and following 11 months a meaning? Theres no youth culture without its reference festival. Lanimale che mi porto dentro vuole te is a documentary designed during MI AMI 2010: an incredibly dense and various portrait of a world in which musicians, organizers and audience contribute like a single lung to a breath of hope and choice.

La Valle della Luna un complesso granitico che giganteggia sul mare di Sardegna. Unumanit originale abita questa valle. Qui, nel 1971, nasce una comunit hippie che, in 40 anni, cambia e si trasforma. Oggi diverse sottoculture la frequentano: punk, rasta, viaggiatori, artisti e vagabondi delle pi diverse nazionalit. Mimmo ed Antoine, i due membri pi anziani, passano il loro inverno solitario godendosi la natura incantata e svolgendo le attivit minimali per il sostentamento: fare legna, acqua, cogliere verdure ed erbe, cucinare. Al sopraggiungere dellestate lincanto rotto dallinvasione delle generazioni pi giovani che, come un popolo migratore, travolge la valle facendone emergere i conflitti.

Giovanni Buccomino: Nato a Roma nel 1974, Giovanni Buccomino laureato in Filosofia allUniversit La Sapienza di Roma. Dopo gli studi ha iniziato come ingegnere del suono prima in ambito musicale, sia concerti che studio, per poi avvicinarsi allaudio-video realizzando montaggi del suono e colonne sonore. Nel 2004 ha diretto Islam Light, documentario girato in Egitto. Nel 2006 comincia a lavorare, come autore e co-regista, a un documentario, ancora in fase di lavorazione, riguardante la musica e i bambini, dove, Edwin Gordon, Stefano Bollani, Paolo Fresu, Roman Vlad e molti altri appaiono come figure di spicco.

The Valley of the Moon is a rocky headland that dominates the Sardinian Sea, in Italy. An original humanity inhabits this valley. Here, in 1971, a hippie community came to life. In the last 40 years the community has transformed itself: today travelers and artists of all sub-cultures, and from many countries come to the Valley. Mimmo and Antoine, the oldest members, spend their solitary winter enjoying nature in awe and doing the minimum to survive: cooking, searching for wood, water, vegetables, and herbs. Suddenly, at the beginning of August, the enchantment is broken by the invasion of the younger generation that, like migratory people, infests the valley and let conflicts emerge.

Giovanni Buccomino was born in Rome in 1974. After a masters degree in Philosophy at La Sapienza University in Rome, he has worked for almost ten years as a musician. In 2000 he started working as a sound engineer. At the beginning for concerts and recording studios, and then with audio-videos, soundtracks and music and sound design. In 2004 Buccomino directed Islam Light, a documentary shot in Egypt. He is working on a documentary, which is still under construction, about how children learn music, in which Edwin Gordon, Stefano Bollani, Paolo Fresu, and Roman Vlad are a high profile figures.

A 30 anni dalla sua morte, la voce di Demetrio Stratos continua a suscitare entusiasmi ed emozioni. Il corpus del suo lavoro mostra uneterogeneit unica, estendendosi dai territori della musica commerciale a quelli del rock, del jazz, della musica contemporanea e dellavanguardia pi radicale. La voce Stratos traccia lecletticit delle sperimentazioni e del lavoro che hanno segnato la storia della musica italiana. Unimmersione nella politica del tempo attraverso gli Area, unelaborata riflessione che abbraccia un pezzo della storia e del costume italiani degli anni 60 e 70, un incrocio con il beat e le sue atmosfere, un incontro con le avanguardie artistiche internazionali di quegli anni e, al tempo stesso, una riscoperta della tradizione culturale e musicale mediterranea, aggiornata e contaminata.

Luciano DOnofrio, Monica Affatato: Luciano DOnofrio si occupa di musica, arte, politica e cinema. Ha scritto pubblicit e ha svolto la maggior parte dei ruoli tecnici nella realizzazione dei documentari, dalle riprese al montaggio alla regia. Si occupato di editoria alternativa, di performance teatrali, di installazioni multimediali, di cinema underground e di attivit culturali in genere, prevalentemente in centri sociali e in situazioni non istituzionali. Monica Affatato frequenta il corso di canto lirico presso il Conservatorio G. Verdi di Torino. Dal 1996 comincia a lavorare nel settore audiovisivo. Realizza documentari come regista, montatrice e autrice di colonne sonore.
Luciano DOnofrio is interested in music, art, politics and cinema. He wrote commercials and carried out almost all technical roles in documentary production, from filming to editing and directing. He is also involved in alternative publishing, theatrical performances, multimedia installation art, underground cinema and cultural activities in general, mostly in social centers or other noninstitutional settings. Monica Affatato attends opera singing course at G. Verdi Conservatory in Turin. In 1996 she starts working in the audiovisual field. Shes a documentary director, editor and soundtrack author.

30 years after his departure, Demetrio Stratos voice still arouses emotions and enthusiasm. The bulk of his work is highly diversified, extending from pop music to rock, jazz, contemporary music and deepest avant-garde. La voce Stratos tracks down the versatility of Demetrio Stratos experimentations that deeply marked Italian music history. Its an intense refection that embraces a piece of 1960s and 70s Italian history and costume, the political view seen through the eyes of the band Area, an encounter with international artistic avant-garde and a rediscovery of Mediterranean cultural and musical tradition at the same time.

Brigate Rock (1979-1980); A come Anarchia (1981-1982) i pionieri e coloro che in quel periodo si sono sentiti punk nellItalia violenta, fragile e confusa di quegli anni. A modo loro, anche solo bucandosi la guancia con uno spillone o imbrattando una cabina telefonica. Perch anche questa storia.

Angelo Rastelli: Regista e produttore, Angelo Rastelli dal 1976 al 1995 vive e lavora a Milano. Ha vissuto importanti esperienze internazionali, producendo film negli Stati Uniti, in America Latina ed in Europa. Dal 1998 vive e lavora a Roma dove ha fondato la Angelo Rastelli Film, una produzione indipendente di documentari di alta qualit e docufiction.

1977-1982, the birth of Italian punk. Divided in three chapters Figli di Odeon (1977-1978); B.R. Brigate Rock (1979-1980); A come Anarchia (1981-1982) the movie represents the pioneers and all of those who, in their own way, felt being punk in the violent, fragile and confused Italy of those years, even only by piercing their cheeck with a pin or soiling a phone booth. Because this is history too.

Director and producer, Angelo Rastelli lived and worked in Milan from 1976 to 1995. He has had lots of important international experiences, producing films in the USA, Latin America and Europe. Hes living in Rome since 1998. Here he founded Angelo Rastelli Film, and independent label for high quality documentaries and docufiction.

Angelo Rastelli: Regista e produttore, Angelo Rastelli dal 1976 al 1995 vive e lavora a Milano. Ha vissuto importanti esperienze internazionali, producendo film negli Stati Uniti, in America Latina ed in Europa. Dal 1998 vive e lavora a Roma dove ha fondato la Angelo Rastelli Film, una produzione indipendente di documentari di alta qualit e docufiction.

Nelle giornate del 26, 27 e 28 giugno del 1976 si svolge al Parco Lambro di Milano la VI Festa del Proletariato Giovanile, organizzata dalla rivista Re Nudo. Nudi verso la follia rilegge, ripropone e reinterpreta il lavoro realizzato dal collettivo di videoteppisti (questo il nome che si erano dati) che insieme ad Alberto Grifi aveva ripreso nel 1976 le giornate del festival. Unanalisi a ritroso per riscoprire una macchina-cinema complessa come quella messa in piedi negli anni Sessanta e Settanta da Grifi. La vita, i dibattiti, gli scontri ideologici e non solo, allinterno del movimento giovanile di quegli anni. Director and producer, Angelo Rastelli lived and worked in Milan from 1976 to 1995. He has had lots of important international experiences, producing films in the USA, Latin America and Europe. Hes living in Rome since 1998. Here he founded Angelo Rastelli Film, and independent label for high quality documentaries and docufiction.

In June 26th-28th 1976, in Parco Lambro in Milan the VI Festa del Proletariato Giovanile (6th Proletarian Youth Festival) takes place, organized by Re Nudo (Naked King) magazine. Nudi verso la follia re-reads, re-presents and re-interprets the work done by the videothug collective (thats how they defined themselves) which videotaped the Festival together with director Alberto Grifi; a backward analysis to rediscover that complex film machine set up by Grifi in the 60s-70s. Life, debates, ideological fights inside the youth movement of those years, as well as the final act of the season of great pop-rock international rallies, that acted as a social glue for many generations.

Ma anche un percorso nella citt di sopra, attraverso i suoi monumenti e i quartieri pi vivi, sempre punteggiato dalle performance realistiche e oniriche di Gragnaniello con i Sud Express che si intrecciano in siparietti con artisti partenopei come Tony Cercola, Maria Luisa Santella, Enzo Moscato, Riccardo Veno, Franco Del Prete e James Senese, e con lapporto di immagini cinematografiche di repertorio di una Napoli del dopoguerra e degli anni Settanta. Una sorta di musicarello su presente e passato con un taglio leggero che infonde emozioni musicali e visive con il proposito di regalare allo spettatore scorci sulla bellezza e sulle vitalit nostrane ormai offuscate da continue rappresentazioni mediatiche sul degrado umano e territoriale.

Carlo Luglio: Carlo Luglio realizza nel 2003 il suo primo lungometraggio, Capo Nord. Lanno seguente, insieme a Romano Montesarchio, gira Cardilli addolorati, documentario tragicomico sui bracconieri. Dal 2007 co-fondatore della societ di produzione Figli del Bronx, con cui dirige Sotto la stessa luna, girato durante i focolai della faida camorristica che sconvolsero la citt nel 2004-2005. Dal 2009 gira ogni estate un cortometraggio-laboratorio dal titolo Piano-Forte nella Comunit alloggio La Nostra Zona di Torre Pellice (Pinerolo, Piemonte), che nel 2012 diventer un lungometraggio a tre episodi.

A musical journey with Enzo Gragnaniello through the memory of the magic, mythological and historical Neapolitan underworld, and through the city above, with its monuments and most lively areas, all speckled by Gragnaniellos realistic and imaginary performances whom together with the Sud Express mixes own musical scenes with some of other Neapolitan artists as Tony Cercola, Maria Luisa Santella, Enzo Moscato, Riccardo Veno, Franco Del Prete, James Senese all interweaved with archives images of Naples after the war and in the 70s. A light musicarello of the past and present time evocating musical and visual emotions with the aim of giving the audience a glimpse on the local beauty and vitality too often not shown by the press and buried by images of human and territorial decline.

Carlo Luglio directed his first feature Capo Nord in 2003. The following year he shot Cardilli addolorati with Romano Montesarchio, a tragi-comical documentary about poachers. Form 2007 he co-founded the production company Figli del Bronx, with whom he directed Sotto la stessa luna, shot during the flash point of the Camorras blood feud which devastated the city in 2004- 2005. Each summer since 2009 he has been filming an experimental short entitled Piano-Forte in the assisted living facilities of La Nostra Zona in Torre Pellice (Pinerolo, region of Piemonte), which will become a three-episode feature film in 2012.

Unico documentario esistente sui CCCP, leggendario gruppo emiliano di Annarella, Fatur, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti e Massimo Zamboni. Tempi moderni (titolo rubato che ben si adatta ai CCCP, fecondi riciclatori di frammenti musicali, artefici di una musica da loro stessi definita musica sedimentata) ha continuato a circolare negli anni, dal 1989 ad oggi, attraverso canali di nicchia, sotterranei e spesso clandestini, a dispetto della sua natura di film povero, realizzato per pura passione. Con la riedizione del 2008 il documentario stato tecnicamente salvato dallusura del tempo, riuscendo ancora di pi a far rivivere con passione e freschezza la storia e la complessit dei CCCP: musica, teatro, pensieri, parole, persone.

Luca Gasparini:

Filmed in 1989, the only existing documentary about CCCP, the legendary Italian band from Reggio Emilia, formed by Annarella, Fatur, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti and Massimo Zamboni. Along all these years Modern Times (stolen title that suits perfectly CCCP, fertile recycler of musical fragments) has demonstrated a strong vitality, constantly circulating through little and/or underground screenings and the web. The documentary was remastered in 2008 and saved from the injury of time. A passionate and fresh portrait of CCCP complexity: music, theatre, thoughts, words, persons.

Luca Gasparini was born in Bergamo, Italy, in 1958. He graduated in History and Critic of Cinema at the University of Turin. Come testimoniano gli innumerevoli tour, le importanti collaborazioni e le numerose uscite discografiche. Claudio Donatelli and Annalisa Nicastro are active in the musical scene since a long time, especially after they became editor-in-chief (Annalisa) and managing editor (Claudio) of the online magazine Sound36. Since 2008 their musical knowledge grew even further, while they made a lot of reviews and filmed interviews to important artists and bands, both Italian and international. After living in Rome and Berlin, theyre currently in London.

A rockumentary about Motorama, all female band that starting from Rome underground circuits was able to reach international fame: USA and many European countries like France, Austria, Spain, UK and Germany, as testified by the several tours, important collaborations and record releases. The film portrays a peculiar year in the life of the band, an year busy with a new line-up and future projects. Cosimo Messeri: Nato a Fiesole nel 1985, Cosimo Messeri vive da sempre a Roma. Cosimo Messeri was born in Fiesole in 1985, but he has lived in Rome all his life. After being assistant director to Nanni Moretti and Carlo Mazzacurati, he went on to write, direct, and act in the short films Zeldman (2006, awarded the Best First Film and Critics Prize at the Valdarno Cinema Fedic Festival) and Le Jour J (2008), as well as the self-produced feature Detesto lelettronica Stop (2008). He composes, plays, and sings in the band Plastic Macs.

A young director crosses the ocean to find Emitt Rhodes, the mysterious forgotten American pop star from the 1960s/70s, leader of Merry-GoRound and songwriter, author of cult albums as Mirror and Farewell to Paradise, once dubbed as the secret alter ego of Paul McCartney. But these theories are refuted by Emitt himself, flushed out and placed in front of a video camera after many years spent holed up in his house full of old guitars and vintage amplifiers. Che fine hanno fatto gruppi e musicisti? Dov la Torino arrabbiata, notturna, alternativa? Attraverso le testimonianze dei protagonisti dellepoca, si affrontano la genesi, laffermazione e la fine di uno stile musicale; i concerti e le modalit di comunicazione per promuovere dischi ed eventi live; leredit musicale e sociale.

Andrea Spinelli: Nato a Torino nel 1979, Andrea Spinelli laurato al DAMS e lavora come operatore, consulente per archivi video e formatore in ambito sociale. Ha esordito alla regia con alcuni cortometraggi come Action (2005) e Qui si corre come vongole a motore (2006). Suona, lavora come promoter e ufficio stampa e ha realizzato video per band quali Perturbazione e Duemanosinistra.

Born in Turin in 1979, Andrea Spinelli obtained a degree in DAMS (Faculty of Art, Music and Performing Arts) and is now working as an operator and advisor for video archives and as a social educator. He started out in film direction with short films like Action (2005) and Qui si corre come vongole a motore (2006). He plays and works as promoter, press office and videomaker for bands such as Perturbazione and Duemanosinistra.

At the beginning of 1980s bands such as Nerorgasmo, Panico, Declino e Negazione start Turin hardcore movement, a unique musical scene in Italy. This phenomenon has been widely described. On the contrary, very few has been said about the 1990s. The latter is the main topic of Torino Hardcore, which uses music as main theme to talk about the city and to remember a widespread sociality in contrast with the confined one of the present. What happened to bands and musicians? Where is the angry, nightly, alternative Turin? Birth, rise and death of a music style is analyzed through the eyes of its protagonists: concerts and communication methods to promote records and live events, musical and social heritage.

Paolo Campana: Nato a Torino nel 1968, Paolo Campana ha realizzato numerosi film selezionati in festival italiani ed internazionali. Oltre alla carriera di operatore e montatore, Campana oggi anche DJ e performer e si esibisce sotto vari pseudonimi.

Paolo Campana was born in 1968 in Turin, Italy. He has already made a number of personal films selected in Italian and foreign festival. He made his first short in 35mm in 1996, Free Derry, an Open Wound, a tribute to the Bloody Sundays day. In 2007-08 Paolo worked for the Italian public channel Rai Tre directing short films for the childrens show Screensaver. Paolo has worked extensively as camera-operator and editor. Currently hes working as a DJ-performer under a number of different names.

Nel 1990 realizza il suo primo documentario sul rientro di Rigoberta Menchu in Guatemala. Tra i suoi lavori, 500 anni dopo: leredit di Colombo (1992), Il Quinto Sole: sul sentiero dei Maya (1995), Invisibili - Adivasi Dalit e la Narmada (2005), Calle Miguel Claro 1359 (2006). Il Rototom Sunsplash, festival reggae tra i pi grandi del mondo, dopo 16 anni di crescita e successi, deve emigrare dallItalia. Messo sotto accusa, nella figura del suo presidente, in base alla Fini-Giovanardi, la legge 49 del 2006 sulle droghe, decide di trasferirsi in Spagna. Si tratta di un evento da 160 mila ingressi per edizione, pi di mille persone occupate, un indotto fiorente e in crescita che arricchiva un territorio industriale oggi in forte crisi economica, nel Nord Est dellItalia. Il festival approda a Benicassim (Valencia), dove viene accolto con slancio dagli enti locali. Ledizione 2010, il primo Sunsplash spagnolo, un successo. Exodus Finding Shelter la storia di un affiatato e determinato gruppo di lavoro che affronta un vero esodo per trovare rifugio in un altro paese. Una delocalizzazione forzata per realizzare unidea e proseguire un progetto.

The Rototom Sunsplash, one of the biggest reggae festivals worldwide, after 16 years of steady growth, is forced into exile from Italy. The festival, in the person of its President, is threatened with criminal charges based on Italian law governing drugs, known as the Fini Giovanardi law. As a consequence the organizers decide to move to Spain. The event annually attracts about 160,000 paying spectators per edition, it employs a staff of about 1000 people, and generates increasingly bigger revenues for all. This was a counter-trend in the current economic crisis of the industries characterizing North-East Italy. The festival decides to move its HQ and the venue to Benicassim (near Valencia) where it receives a warm welcome. This documentary testifies the vast success of the 2010 Spanish edition. Exodus Finding Shelter is the story of a strongly united and determined workgroup who chose exile in another country in order to find shelter. A forced decision aimed at the realization of an idea and the continuation of a project.

Un trip on the road che attraversa le radici della musica reggae. Girato in Giamaica, tocca alcuni luoghi fondamentali dove Bob Marley ha reso il proprio talento storia, come il Tuff Gong, lo studio in cui Marley incise alcune delle sue canzoni pi toccanti e significative. Si arriva a curiosare fin dentro piccoli negozi storici dove ancora si stampa su vinile. E al tempo stesso si giunge nei grandi studios odierni. Jamaica mon amour stato realizzato in occasione del 15 anniversario del festival Rototom Sunsplash: un atto damore totale ed incontaminato verso la roots culture. Oltre che laspetto musicale, il documentario affronta anche la realt di oggi, le contraddizioni, i problemi e le gioie di chi vive in questo magico paese.

A trip on the road taking us back to the roots of reggae music. The movie is shot in Jamaica, in the very places where Bob Marley turned his talent into history. Tuff Gong the studio where Marley recorded some of his biggest hits is also included in the tour. The journey goes through many small record shops where music is still printed to vinyl and through the big music production studios too. A movie filmed for the celebration of Rototom Sunsplash festivals 15th anniversary, made out of pure love towards reggae culture. Apart from everything connected to music the movie shows the contradictions of this magic country: the problems of normal people and of course their joys.

Born in 1952, journalist, freelance reporter and director, Tommaso DElia has been living in Brazil since 1985. In 1990 he directed his first documentary on Rigoberta Menchus return in Guatemala. Among his works, 500 anni dopo: leredit di Colombo (1992), Invisibili - Adivasi Dalit e la Narmada (2005), Calle Miguel Claro 1359 (2006) and Na stranizza damuri (2007). Editor and assistant editor, born in 1978, Luca Onorati has been working since 2001 with the Television production company Paneikon. He edited various feature films and documentaries and took care of editing RAI and Mediaset TV shows and programs.

Nel 2002, in Palestina gira la docu-fiction Deheishe Camp. Nei mesi successivi visita i campi profughi del sud del Libano e produce Identit. Nel 2006 collabora a un progetto di alfabetizzazione comunicativa in Colombia e realizza Mercanca. Dello stesso anno Di madre in figlia, incentrato sul coro delle mondine di Novi di Modena.

Immense caravans travel towards the Eastern European countries, looking for free spaces where to promote and develop the illegal free party culture. As the society of control in the Western European Countries keeps growing frantically, the new nomads are heading east to find a new horizon, interacting with the people of the ex soviet block. Trucks and vans transport powerful sound-systems giving life to teknivals, self-managed gatherings where the travelers and the tribes coming from all Europe meet to organize a party of electronic music which lasts various days.

Andrea Zambelli was born in 1975 and graduated at DAMS of Bologna in 2001. His first experience as a director was with Farebbero tutti silenzio, shot among Atalantas football supporters. In 2002, he shot in Palestine the docu-fiction Deheishe Camp. In the following months he visited the refugee camps of Southern Lebanon and produced Identit. In 2006 he worked on a communicative alphabetizations project in Colombia and directed Mercanca. Di madre in figlia, shot during the same year, is focused on the Mondine di Novis choir of Modena.

Ha realizzato a budget zero diversi cortometraggi come Conflitto, Il giardino delle fate e Dead Fish, che hanno ottenuto premi e riconoscimenti in diversi concorsi nazionali. Dopo significative esperienze lavorative nel settore sia in Italia che allestero, prosegue sulla via dellintegrazione culturale, ed in procinto di partire per una nuova meta.

Antonella Villa was born in Formia in 1980. She attended a course of Cinema and Television in Rome, then moved to Rimini where she worked as a cameraman and editor. For almost 20 years Mister Max has been making parodies of the most fashionable hits in Sicilian dialect. This documentary describes the man, the singer and the background urban context: a Sicilian town, divided in a static and unchanging old city and a chaotic and disordered modern one. Two different non-communicating cities. Two opposite worlds in todays Italy.

Luca Scivoletto: Nato a Modica, in Sicilia, nel 1981, Luca Scivoletto laureato in Lettere e ha diretto numerosi corti e documentari. Con Ho deciso (2004) ha vinto il primo premio al Festival del Corto di La 25 Ora su La7; con Ieri (2006) ha partecipato a numerosi festival internazionali, tra cui il Rotterdam International Film Festival, ed stato finalista ai Nastri dArgento nella categoria Miglior Cortometraggio. Nel 2008 ha realizza il documentario A Nord Est, menzione speciale al Festival Cinemambiente di Torino.

Tito Schipa Jr.: Figlio del famoso tenore Tito Schipa, Tito Schipa Jr. comincia la propria carriera nel 1967 con uno spettacolo basato su canzoni di Bob Dylan, arrangiate in una sorta di opera rock. Affascinato da questa formula, la ripete varie volte nei lavori successivi. Il suo esordio discografico del 1971, con il 45 giri Sono passati i giorni, ma il primo vero lavoro lambiziosa opera Orfeo 9, su cui si era concentrato fin dal 1969, e che era stata rappresentata per la prima volta in teatro a Roma nel 1970. Influenzato dalla musica classica, Schipa realizza un lavoro definitivo nel campo delle opere rock.

January 23th 1970 Tito Schipa Jr. puts up Orfeo 9 musical, first Italian rock opera and first in the world to be played in a theatre. Texts are based on the myth Orpheus and Eurydice. In 1973 Schipa Jr. makes a film out of it, shot in four weeks only in an unsafe disused brick furnace. Produced by Rai, state TV itself will be eager to censor it. Orfeo 9 is the story of a youth community that inhabits the ruins of a deconsecrated church, far from the hated city. Lonely Orpheus lives within it and Eurydice soon awakes his sleeping heart. The happiness seller, a gloomy character, creeps into the couple and with a devilish trick tears them apart. In seek of his beloved, Orpheus sets foot for a tormented journey inside and outside himself.

Son of the popular tenor Tito Schipa, Tito Schipa Jr. started his career in 1967 with a show based on Bob Dylans songs, arranged like a sort of rock opera. Fascinated by this formula he repeated it many times in his later works. His recording debut came in 1971 with the single Sono passati i giorni, but his first proper work was the ambitious opera Orfeo 9, that he had concentrated on since 1969, and that was first represented in theatre in Rome in 1970. Influenced by classical music, Schipa released a beautiful work that can be described as a opera rock magnum opus.

Marco Ferreri: Nato a Milano nel 1928 e morto a Parigi nel 1997, Marco Ferreri inizia la carriera in Spagna lavorando con Rafael Azcona, col quale d vita ad un duraturo sodalizio artistico. Tornato in patria, Ferreri realizza la satira anticattolica Lape regina (1962), il feroce La donna scimmia (1963) e limpietoso Il professore, episodio di Controsesso (1964). Con Dillinger morto (1969), saggio sulla solitudine delluomo contemporaneo, realizza uno dei suoi capolavori. In seguito, gira cupe allegorie sul futuro (Il seme delluomo, 1970) e favole illuminanti e bizzarre (Ludienza, 1972; La grande abbuffata, 1973), fino a racconti teneri e crudeli come Lultima donna (1976) e La casa del sorriso (1990).

Shot in Toronto, Montral, Winnipeg and Power Ridge Pop Festival between 1969 and 1970, its a docuentary that portrays the changes in 1970s American society and their following repercussions on hippie movement in Italy. The basic question for Ferreri was why hundreds of young people, coming from the whole North America, were driven together in those occasions. Riding the wave of the atmosphere of protest and riot of 1968, cultural and costumes innovations among young people reach Italy too, with a climax in the festival at Parco Lambro in Milan at the end of July 1976, in coincidence with the broadcasting of this documentary on Rai 2.

Marco Ferreri was born in Milan in 1928 and died in Paris in 1997. He began his career in Spain with the young humorist Rafael Azcona, with whom he set up a lasting relationship. Returning to Italy, Ferreri directed the anti-Catholic Queen Bee (1963), the bitter The Ape Woman (1964), and the fierce Il professore, episode of Countersex (1964). Dillinger is Dead (1969), an essay on the solitude of contemporary man, was one of his masterpieces. Following that, he directed dark allegories on the future (The Seed of Man, 1969) and iconoclast fables (The Audience, 1971; La Grande Bouffe, 1973), until tender and cruel movies as The Last Woman (1976) and La casa del sorriso (1991).

Compositore e DJ electro della Berlino underground, Martin (conosciuto sotto lo pseudonimo di DJ Ickarus) in tourne con il suo manager e la fidanzata Mathilde. Mentre Martin fa conoscenza con gli altri pazienti e ricomincia a scrivere musica, Mathilde finisce nuovamente tra le braccia della sua ex, Corinna, e luscita del disco rimane in sospeso. Nato a Stoccarda nel 1970, Hannes Sthr durante il servizio civile lavora in un ospedale psichiatrico, quindi studia allUniversit di Passau. Nel 1995 entra allAccademia di Cinema di Berlino, in seguito studia a Los Angeles. Durante gli studi realizza diversi cortometraggi e, nel 1998, il documentario Cirque Gosh - Live in Paris. Berlin underground composer and electro DJ Martin (known under the pseudonym of DJ Ickarus) is on tour with his manager and girlfriend Mathilde. The two of them spend their nights in clubs, and are preparing to release a major electronic music album. However Mathilde finds it increasingly difficult to deal with Martins drug addiction and the album release is compromised when the DJ, following an overdose, is held in a psychiatric ward. While Martin gets to know the other patients and starts to write music again, Mathilde falls into the arms of her former lover, Corinna, and the album release remains on hold. A trip into the nocturnal world of the electro scene at 100,000 beats per minute with the internationally known hit DJ Paul Kalkbrenner.

Hannes Sthr was born in Stuttgart in 1970. He worked in a psychiatric hospital, as part of his national service, then studied at Passau University. In 1995 he enrolled at the German Film Academy in Berlin, then studied in Los Angeles. As a student, he made several short films as well as a documentary, Cirque Gosh - Live in Paris. Ein Zirkusportrt (2008). His first feature, Berlin is in Germany (2001), recounts the adventures of a man imprisoned in East Berlin who feels lost on his release, after the wall has come down. In 2005, he made One Day in Europe, a comedy played out around the football match between Galatasaray and Deportivo La Corua.

Sung-Hyung Cho was born in Pusan, South Korea. She studied Communication in Seoul and came to Marburg in 1990 where she completed a Masters degree in Art History, Media Studies and Philosophy. She worked as an editor and gave seminars at the Filmhaus Frankfurt. In 1997 she began filming music videos for friends working as musicians alone or in bands.

Romano Scavolini was born in Fiume in 1940. He has been directing since the 1960s underground, independent and experimental movies. After his first The Ravaged One he worked his way into film industry, taking on a wide variety of jobs to broaden his experience, and then joined the army. In 1966 he made his first truly professional feature Blind Fly, a controversial analysis of aimless violence brought on by the central characters lack of purpose in life. Between 1968 and 1970 he made four major films, and finally he left for Vietnam to cover the war as a free lance photographer. On his return to Italy, he worked as director of photography and started his own production company, Lido Cinematografica. In 1976 he settled in the USA where he directed The Savage Hunt and his powerful horror cult movie Nightmare (1981).

Negli anni 80 Krl si dedica ai tour, alla scrittura e alla composizione di colonne sonore. Dopo il 1989 e la fine del comunismo, torna in Repubblica Ceca per far crescere una nuova scena. Tra i massimi esponenti del movimento No Wave diffuso nella scena cinematografica, musicale e artistica newyorkese tra il 1975 ed il 1985, Amos Poe attualmente vive a New York dove continua a scrivere, dirigere e produrre film.

The Blank Generation is a clip compilation on punks birth in New York. Shot by insider Ivan Krl (ex-guitar Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Blondie) and edited with underground filmmaker Amos Poe, this rare gem is packed with legendary rebels in their humble beginnings. Including bands as The Ramones, Television, Patti Smith, Talking Heads, Blondie, New York Dolls, Heartbreakers, Shirts, Harry Toledo, Miamis, Wayne County, Marbles, CBGBs Party, and Tuff Darts.

Ivan Krl is a songwriter, media composer, producer, vocalist and filmmaker. He entered the New York music scene at age 18, after defecting Czechoslovakia before the 1968 Russian invasion. Since the 70s, Krl filmed the New Yorks glam/ punk scene while performing in the Patti Smith Group, Iggy Pop and Blondie. During the 80s, Krl toured, wrote, and composed film scores. After the 90s fall of communism, Kral returned to his native Czech Republic to jumpstart the new rock scene. Amos Poe is one of the leaders of the No Wave Cinema movement (1975-85) that grew out of New York Citys downtown music and art scene. Currently, Poe lives in New York City and continues to write, direct, and produce.

Rob Reiner was born in 1947 in New York. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, and began his career writing for the CBS show Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1968 and 1969. A few years later, Reiner became famous playing Michael Meathead Stivic, Archie Bunkers liberal son-in-law, on Norman Lears 1970s sitcom All in the Family. Beginning in the 1980s, Reiner became known as a director of successful Hollywood movies as Stand by Me (1986) and The Princess Bride (1987). His success as a director continued with The American President (1995), Rumor Has It... (2005) and The Bucket List (2007).

Marcello Zappatore un ragazzo di 33 anni che, per guadagnarsi da vivere, suona la chitarra elettrica in una band metal satanista famosa nella provincia di Lecce. La vita di Marcello presto sconvolta da uno straordinario evento: un fastidioso prurito al costato si rivela, in seguito, essere una stigmate. Dono divino o necessit di cambiamento? Questo Marcello non lo sa, ma la stigmate gli procura non pochi problemi. In breve tempo, a causa della sua involontaria vicinanza a Dio, Marcello perde la ragazza e la casa in cui convivevano. Inoltre, cacciato dalla sua band che rifiuta un chitarrista stigmatizzato, perde anche il lavoro. Si ritrova cos a dover affrontare un viaggio tutto personale attraverso due mondi apparentemente incompatibili: quello di Dio e quello del rocknroll.

Massimiliano Verdesca: Nato a Lecce nel 1976, Massimiliano Verdesca inizia a lavorare in pubblicit come copywriter. Dopo un paio danni dagenzia, lascia Milano e si trasferisce a New York per studiare regia alla New York Film Academy. Al suo rientro in Italia, inizia la collaborazione con diverse case di produzione. Nel 2006 dirige e produce il cortometraggio In religioso disagio, presentato in concorso al Festival di Rotterdam e, in seguito, ad altri festival internazionali. Il corto parte di un pi ampio progetto riguardante il fantastico e reale personaggio di Marcello Zappatore, protagonista del suo lungometraggio desordio W Zappatore.

Marcello Zappatore is a 33-year-old from Lecce. He earns a living by playing electric guitar in a well-known local Satanist heavy metal band. However, Marcello has a physical problem: an uncomfortable itch on the side of his rib cage that soon turns out to be stigmata. Divine intervention or need for a change? Marcello does not know the answer, although the stigmata is causing him many problems. In one go, due to his newly acquired (yet unintentional) closeness to God, he loses his girlfriend and the flat they share together. Hes also kicked out of the band, hence losing his job. Marcello now finds himself ready to undertake a very personal voyage between two very different and incompatible worlds... that of God and that of Rock.

Massimiliano Verdasca was born in Lecce in 1976. He begins his career in advertising, working for clients such as Cartoon Network and Pepsi. After a couple of years he leaves Milan to move to New York, where he enrolls at the New York Film Academy to study Film Making. Once back in Milan, he collaborates on different projects for several production companies. In 2006 he started writing his first short movie project, In religioso disagio. Its success at Rotterdam Film Festival gains the film entry to several other festivals. The short movie is part of a wider project that brings to the screen the life and wonderful world of Marcello Zappatore, main character of his first feature W Zappatore.

Ideato e gestito da Fabio Morichini, Matteo Sapio, Alessandra Sciamanna e Daniele Silipo, Cinematografo Poverania un progetto no profit che organizza, periodicamente, proiezioni e serate di presentazione allinterno di diverse realt romane quali il Forte Fanfulla, il Circolo degli Artisti e il Cineclub Detour. Appuntamenti esclusivamente dedicati al cinema no e low budget italiano e agli invisibili del bel paese. Itinerante come larte in tutte le sue forme dovrebbe essere, Cinematografo Poverania lavora da tempo alla creazione di un piccolo ma tangibile circuito di distribuzione alternativo, assieme a realt e cineforum di altre citt. Un obiettivo che, nel tempo, si va sempre pi concretizzando: partendo dalla sede centrale, Roma, il progetto arrivato sino alla citt di Torino, Venezia, Varese e Milano. Cinematografo Poverania nasce dallesigenza di dar luce al cinema non assistito cercando di mostrare nuove vie da percorrere. La forte caratterizzazione del progetto ha fatto si che diventasse, nel tempo, non soltanto una vetrina itinerante ma un vero e proprio laboratorio sperimentale per i giovani registi, un luogo di ricerca e scoperta di nuove forme produttive e distributive.

Created and run by Fabio Morichini, Matteo Sapia, Alessandra Sciamanna and Daniele Silipo, Cinematografo Poverania is a non-profit project that periodically arranges screenings and events within various realities of Rome, as Forte Fanfulla, Circolo degli Artisti and Cineclub Detour. All dates are focused solely on Italian low and no budget filmmaking and on invisible movies. Travelling as art in all its form should be, Cinematografo Poverania has always been working, together with realities from other cities, for the creation of a small but tangible alternative distribution chain. An objective that is progressively materializing: starting from Rome, the project has spread to Turin, Venice, Varese and Milan. Cinematografo Poverania is born out of the need to give visibility to non-aided cinema, trying to show new paths to walk. The strong features of the project have made it not only a travelling showcase but a real experimental laboratory for young directors, a place for fieldwork and discovery of new production and distribution conventions.

Director Enrico Stoccos statement is more than meaningful: I didnt know what to do with this movie. I only knew that I had to do it and to bring it to its end, in any way....

Historical guitarist of the Hormonas, Enrico Stocco is also a one man band for natural inclination. Since 1996 he directed several video clips, short films and documentaries, among which the social communication project Sulle ali del Leone.

La scena punk romana di fine anni Settanta come non si mai vista. Un viaggio tra i quartieri della capitale, alla ricerca dei protagonisti di quel fermento in compagnia di Aldo, uno che allepoca era un punk e che ancora oggi conserva intatta la passione per la musica. La scena punk romana a differenza di quella milanese o bolognese stata la pi vera: ci sono i vecchi locali ormai chiusi o abbandonati a se stessi come antichi monumenti; c il Cinema Espero dove tutto ebbe inizio con il primo festival rock (e che oggi diventato una sala Bingo); c il Uonna Club, storico locale punk, divenuto in seguito Il teatro del giallo poi chiuso e acquistato da un supermercato. Aldo incontra i protagonisti ricordando con loro quei momenti: quando si andava ai concerti e la Birreria Peroni, in pieno centro, ero luogo di ritrovo dei punk.

Simone La Rocca: Nato a Roma nel 1981, Simone La Rocca nel 2005 si diploma in Regia cinematografica presso la Nuova Universit Cinema e Televisione di Roma. Tra il 2004 e il 2011 ha scritto e diretto i cortometraggi Il giro della notte (2004) e Motel (2005) e il lungometraggio The Slurp. Gli strani supereroi (2009).

Simone La Rocca was born in Rome in 1981. He studied at the Nuova Universit Cinema e Televisione in Rome and obtained his degree in 2005. Between 2004 and 2011 he has directed two short movies (Il giro della notte, 2004; Motel, 2005) and the feature film The Slurp. Gli strani supereroi (2009).

The punk scene of Rome at the end of the 70s as youve never seen before. A journey inside the quarters of the city, in search of the protagonists of that movement, together with Aldo, a punk back in those days who still keeps his passion for music intact. Rome punk scene, unlike Milan or Bologna ones, was the most real: the old places are still there, although theyre now closed or abandoned just like ancient monuments; the Cinema Espero, where everything started with the first rock festival (which is now a Bingo house); the Uonna Club, historical punk place, which first became Il teatro del giallo, then was closed and in the end bought by a supermarket chain. Aldo meets those protagonists remembering with them the good old days when they went to concerts, and Birreria Peroni, in the city center, was a punk meeting place.

The first feature documentary about The Doors: the movie uncovers historic and previously unseen footage of the illustrious rock quartet and provides new insight into the revolutionary impact of its music and legacy. Nei primi anni Sessanta, Pennebaker e il suo collega Richard Leacock hanno sviluppato una delle prime macchine da presa sincronizzate 16mm completamente portatile e dei sistemi di registrazione del suono che hanno rivoluzionato il mondo del cinema, contribuendo a creare quello stile immediato di ripresa divenuto accessibile e popolare oggi. Pennebaker ha vinto nel corso della carriera numerosi premi, tra cui il Gotham Award della IFP. Tra i suoi film pi importanti, il seminale Dont Look Back (le riprese dellultimo tour acustico di Bob Dylan in Inghilterra), Moon Over Broadway e Only the Strong Survive.

Il Monterey Pop Festival si svolse per tre giorni nel giugno del 1967. Per la maggior parte dei concerti, larena era stipata fino quasi a scoppiare. Le esibizioni dal vivo furono dei grandi successi. D. A. Pennebaker is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of cinema verite filmmaking. In the early sixties, Pennebaker and his colleague Richard Leacock developed one of the first fully portable 16mm synchronized camera and sound recording systems which revolutionized filmmaking and helped to created the immediate style of shooting so popular today. Pennebaker is the recipient of numerous filmmaking awards including the IFPs Gotham Award. Among his movies, the seminal Dont Look Back (which followed Bob Dylans last acoustic concert tour in England), Moon Over Broadway, and Only the Strong Survive.

The Monterey Pop Festival ran for three days in June 1967. For most of the shows, the arena was jammed to bursting. The live performances were spectacularly successful. Janis Joplin pulled out all the stops with a raw, powerful performance that helped establish her as the preeminent female rock singer of her day. The Who climaxed a brilliant set by smashing their equipment at the conclusion of My Generation. Jimi Hendrix offered an awesome display of his virtuosity as a guitarist and as a showman, humping his Marshall amplifiers and then setting his Stratocaster ablaze. Another highlight was Ravi Shankars meditative afternoon of Indian ragas. And then there was Otis Redding, the dynamic soul man turned in what many present believe was the festivals best performance.

After the collaboration with national newspapers, he started his filmmaking experience. He directs documentaries about cinema for the satellite channel Studio Universal. From 1998 he directs naturalistic documentaries for Rai Tre program Geo&Geo, and activates a collaboration with National Geographic Channel Italia. Dal Verme: Toni Cutrone, ndriu Marziano e Marzia Bonacci sono oggi legati allattivit del locale Dal Verme, circolo culturale Arci che dal 2009 accoglie concerti, performance, visual acts, dj sets, proiezioni e rassegne cinematografiche nel quartiere Pigneto. Dal Verme unistanza vitale, al di l dei circuiti convenzionali. Un lavoro li ha portati a condividere esperienze con diverse realt del variegato panorama romano: dal Fanfulla a gallerie e riviste quali NERO Magazine, RawRaw, a etichette musicali attive in citt (NO=FI, Selva Elettrica, Jeet Kune), fino a realt pi grandi e istituzionali come Circolo degli Artisti, Init e Dissonanze. www.myspace.com/dalverme8

Negli ultimi cinque anni, qualcosa di bizzarro successo nella zona Est di Roma, la sporca e puzzolente capitale dItalia: a Roma Est i cadenti e degradati quartieri che gi furono immortalati da Pasolini e dal cinema neorealista, sono diventati il rifugio per una variegata fauna fatta di immigrati, artisti wannabe, perdigiorno scoppiati, freak e bohemien di periferia. Nei quartieri storici della periferia orientale quali Pigneto, Tor Pignattara e Prenestino, ha preso forma una scena che di questo paesaggio marcio il naturale corrispettivo sonoro: noise, garage brut, lo-fi demente, sperimentalismo di serie B E poi fanzine DIY, fumetti spastici, cinema povero, strampalati progetti concettuali. Borgata Boredom la raccolta che tenta di mettere assieme le diverse anime della scena.
