The definite articles il and la (the) are used for habitual events: il lunedì (on
Mondays); la domenica (on Sundays), etc.

When used without the definite article, any day of the week is intended as “next”.
Compare the following sentences:

Il lunedì lavoro. (I work on Mondays.)

Lunedì non lavoro. (Next Monday I [will] not work.)

Italian  dates  follow  this  order:  day,  month,  year  (giorno,  mese,  anno).    
Only  the  first  of  the  month  is  expressed  with  the  ordinal  number  primo  (first).  
The  other  days  of  the  week  are  expressed  with  the  cardinal  numbers  (due,  tre,  
quattro,  etc.)  

Years  are  never  split  as  is  commonly  done  in  English:  

1974:  nineteen  seventy  four  (millenovecento  settantaquattro);  

2014:  twenty  fourteen  (duemila  quattordici).  

2
