The Present Continuous for future use

English:

There are two things to be aware of. First, Present Continuous is a present tense, and can be used to talk
about the future only in a very specific case: that of a finished future plan. When everything is ready, the
thing is certain and it is just waiting to happen, only then can we use the P.C. for the future. Otherwise, it
would not be possible to recognize something happening right now from what will happen in the future.
Second: to minimize misunderstandings, P.C. for the future is often (but not always) used with a future time
reference (e.g. tomorrow, next month etc).

CI sono due cose da tenere presenti. In primo luogo, il Present Continuous è un tempo verbale presente, e
può essere usato per il futuro solo in un caso molto specifico: quello di un piano finito per il futuro. Quando
tutto è pronto, la cosa è sicura e sta solo aspettando di accadere, solo allora possiamo usare il P.C. per il
futuro. Altrimenti non sarebbe più possibile distinguere ciò che accade nel presente da quello che è invece
nel futuro. Secondo: per ridurre i fraintesi, il P.C. per il futuro è spesso (ma non sempre) usato con un
riferimento temporale futuro (es. domani, il mese prossimo ecc).
