According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, this word has been around since the 1400s. Which is
a bit of a surprise considering how awful it sounds (and you should hear the adjective form,
pulchritudinous: if beauty were a disease, that's how you'd call it)... anyway, it's origin is clearly the
latin adjective Pulcher, "good-looking".
