TED 2011 Roman Ondk Eclipse

La riscoperta del meraviglioso stato il tema di TED 2011 The rediscovery of wonder is the theme of TED 2011 Come ogni anno, ted ha chiamato a raccolta oltre cinquanta speaker (tra cui chi scrive) e diverse migliaia di partecipanti. Sul palco e in platea, un mix molto eterogeneo: da Bill Gates e Al Gore, da Sarah Kay, ventiduenne poetessa newyorkese, ad Aaron Koblin, mago della visualizzazione di grandi dataset digitali; e poi molti studenti, ricercatori e giovani imprenditori della Silicon Valley. Quale il tema prevalente? Il meraviglioso, indicato nel titolo, era certo protagonista. Ma, a posteriori, un altro filo conduttore sembra aver tenuto insieme la maggior parte delle presentazioni: quello dellintelligenza collettiva. Quella spinta dal basso, che, incanalata dalla rete e dai nuovi strumenti informatici, ci permette di raggiungere obiettivi prima fuori dalla nostra portata: che si tratti di dirigere unorchestra internazionale distribuita via YouTube o della capacit di auto-organizzazione delle masse, che nelle medesime settimane stava rovesciando i regimi dittatoriali del Medio Oriente. Like every year, ted assembles over 50 speakers (myself included) and several thousand participants in California. Both the stage and audience feature a very heterogeneous mix: Bill Gates and Al Gore, the 22 year-old New York poet Sarah Kay, the whizz of large digital dataset visualisation Aaron Koblin, as well as many students, researchers and young Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. As the title indicates, wonder was the events prevailing theme. But, in retrospect, another common thread seemed to underlie most of the presentations: that of collective intelligence. This kind of grass-roots drive, when channelled through the Web and new IT tools, opens up possibilities that were once beyond our reach, from conducting an orchestra distributed internationally on YouTube to the new capacity for self-organisation claimed by the masses, which in the same week were causing havoc for dictatorial regimes in the Middle East. Che invece non sono mancati a Roman Ondk nella sua personale Eclipse: lo spazio della fondazione, gi discoteca, gi sala da biliardo, lungi dallessere congeniale a ospitare una mostra. Proprio questa inospitalit al centro dellintervento di Ondk: che si apre restringendo lingresso gi angusto, prosegue attraverso una serie di minime dislocazioni del senso dello spazio e si conclude con la maestosa inversione del tetto dello spazio. Questa mostra sarebbe stata impossibile in un white cube, tanto per via dei suoi difetti quanto dei suoi pregi. Con i vecchi amici si dicono sempre le stesse cose? Forse, ma forse sono quelle che ci stanno pi a cuore. Just like an old friend, the white cube has accustomed artists to both its strengths (neutrality) and its weaknesses (neutrality). It lacks challenges, obstacles and problemsthings that are not lacking in Roman Ondks personal Eclipse exhibition. The foundations spacea former disco and snooker hallis hardly suited to hosting an exhibition. This inhospitality is at the heart of Ondks intervention, which begins by narrowing the already cramped entrance space, continues with a series of minimal shifts in the sense of the space, and ends with a majestic roof inversion. This exhibition would not have been possible in a white cubedue to its weaknesses as well as its strengths. Do old friends always talk about the same things? Valentina Palazzaris art project is based on the centrality of man, his impulses and inspirations. In a Rome exhibition, sculpture, panels and installations made from everyday objects that have been renewed and transformed celebrate the beginning of Italian national history.

Lanciato lo scorso novembre, Farming the City, un progetto pilota che ha lobiettivo di implementare un sistema agricolo urbano efficace. A marzo, stato affiancato da una mappatura digitale realizzata da Cities: online, per iPhone e Android. Farming the City is a pilot project that was launched last November with the aim of implementing an effective urban agricultural system. From March, it is aided with a digital map made by Cities: online, for iPhone and Android.
