1960 anno che segna linizio della rivoluzione culturale in Inghilterra che culmina con
la promulgazione nel 1967 della legge sullaborto, che cambi la vita a molte donne
del tempo. Da questo momento in poi anche le donne erano tutelate sotto questo
punto di vista dalla legge e dalla medicina, senza dover pi ricorrere agli aborti
clandestini, largamente messi in atto in Inghilterra prima del 1967, come raccontato
nel Film di Mike Light, premio Oscar, Il Segreto di Vera Drake. Il film testimonianza
della situazione in cui si trovavano le donne negli anni del dopoguerra, che non
tutelate dalla legge dovevano ricorrere agli aborti clandestini mettendo in pericolo la
loro vita. Oggi a quasi 50 anni dallintroduzione della legge sullaborto, le cose sono
cambiate moltissimo addirittura le cifre parlano di pi di 194mila casi di aborto con un
aumento del 4% rispetto al 2005 e proprio il padre di questa legge Lord Steel afferma
che non avrebbe mai immaginato che la situazione sarebbe diventata cos grave. In
Inghilterra si sta sviluppando lirresponsabilit riguardo a questa pratica medica, che
oggi le donne praticano troppo facilmente, utilizzando un metodo che dimostra il
progresso della medicina ma che risulta essere allo stesso momento troppo invasivo.
Si sta parlando di modificare questa legge cercando di diminuire il numero di aborti
annuali.
