some JEDEC G2
| had lunch with an acquaintence today that | meet with 2-3 times per year
to discuss industry goings-on, He also is. a member of JEDEC, and usually is
friendly to our cause.
He told me a few things of interest:
1. Hans Wiggers and Mosaid are driving DDR hard these days,
2. Hans is tying to take a more active role in JEDEC now. And he is
{ryhing to get elected to take the lead of the JC16 group on signaling
technology (currently "lead" by Farhad Tabrizi)
'3. Desi Rhoden is running against Gorton Kelly for the chairmanship of
JC42 (winere all ofthe memory standardization is done).
‘4. DDR is going down the bidirectional data strobe path now, a complete
reversal of what was done in the September meeting.
5, There is a guy from IBM named Paul Coutes (SP?) that has been working
(on a gigabit'secipin memory bus that was trying to get elected in JC16 as
‘the chair, but his boss told him to pull back. His boss (not known who, but
‘may be Dave Perleman), is deeply involved with SLDRAM development.
6. Atthe September meeting in Taipei, Desi and Farhad surrounded and
‘spent alot of fime with a procurement fellow from Compaq, working hard on
him fo use DOR/SLORAM. Maybe this is where the “Compaq program" involving
‘SLDRAM is coming from?
7 The winds at JEDEC are running strong anti-Rambus, strong ant-intl
‘There is great fear of Intel and much jealously of Rambus there. Our market
‘cap has a number of people very annoyed.
