LESSON 8 ‘PRESENT CONTINUOUS’+ FUTURE TENSES
To describe actions in progress and future events
Part 1
I’m playing football- Sto giocando a pallone
This tense is formed by:
subject+ verb’to have’+ verb in ‘ing’ form
To express actions in progress in that moment or in that period of time.

Examples:
Why are you tired? Because I’m working a lot in this period
What are you doing? I’m watching the T.V.
To form the negative tense you add ‘not’ after the verb to be
Ex. I’m going to the cinema I’m not going to the cinema
She’s studying now She isn’t studying now

To form the interrogative tense you follow the rules of the verb to be
Ex: Is she having breakfast? Yes, she is

Are we singing well? No’ you aren’t
FUTURE TENSES
But you use this tense also to express future actions already planned or arranged
*Utilizziamo questo tempo verbale anche per descrivere azioni che si svolgeranno in un tempo futuro MA CHE
SONO GIA’ PROGRAMMATE, ancora una volta è l’avverbio di tempo che mi indica se l’azione sta avvenendo
in quel momento (o in quel periodo) o in un tempo futuro
EX:
What are you doing tonight? ‘I’m going to sleep’
Where are you going tomorrow? ‘I’m going to University’
The adverb of time is extremely important

EX:
I’m playing cards now/ at the moment
She is travelling a lot in this period
We are selling our car tomorrow/next week
Tomorrow I’m having a party

If the action is not arranged but it is an intention, we use :
‘To be going to’: TO EXPRESS AN INTENTION

Subj+to be going+infinitive of the vb
Ex. She’s going to sell her car
We’re going to arrange a party as soon as possible
I’m going to attend dance classes
Check the difference:

I’m sending my car tomorrow
Domani vendo la macchina
(azione futura già pianificata)
and:
I’m going to send my car next month
Il prossimo mese ho intenzione di vendere la macchina
(un’intenzione futura non già organizzata)

But we have another tense to express a future event and we use it whenever an action or event is not
arranged at all
Will (‘ll) Won’t (negative)- an action which is not arranged

Subj+will (or won’t)+infinitive of the vb without to
Ex:
She’ll go to the U.S. next year
One day I’ll be rich and famous
They won’t accept your request
Check the differences among the 3 tenses:
1-Tomorrow I’m leaving to Rome EVERYTHING IS ALREADY ARRANGED
2-Next month I’m going to leave to Rome THIS IS YOUR INTENTION,BUT IT’S NOT
TOTALLY ARRANGED
3- I’ll leave to Rome one day - YOU DON’T KNOW EXACTLY WHEN
