CONOSCENZE PRELIMINARI: Inglese I OBIETTIVI FORMATIVI: Il corso si prefigge di fornire ai futuri ingegneri meccanici magistrali una conoscenza della lingua inglese di livello B2 e di renderli capaci di scrivere un articolo tecnico in inglese nonché di tradurre testi e articoli sugli argomenti tipici dell’ingegneria industriale. PROGRAMMA: Parte I: grammatica (14 ore); simple present, present continuous; various types of future (present continuous, going to and will); future continuous and future perfect; much, many, (a) lot, (a) little (a) few, some, any; simple past, past continuous, present perfect, present perfect continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous, modals, conditionals, passive, adjectives with –ed and –ing, comparative and superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs, word order. Units 1-16; 19-45, 84, 86, 97, 98, 104-109, da [1]: Parte II (10 ore): lettura critica e traduzione del libro “How to write a paper” di M. Ashby, nonché di brani tratti da testi di corsi comuni alle lauree in Ingegneria Meccanica e Gestionale: Economia; Fisica tecnica; Fluidodinamica; Sistemi energetici; Meccanica applicata alle macchine; Tecnologia meccanica. METODI DI INSEGNAMENTO: Lezioni ed esercitazioni in aula supportate dall'impiego di computer e videoproiettore; tutoraggio in forma di assistenza individuale. CONOSCENZE E ABILITÀ ATTESE: Al termine del corso gli allievi avranno raggiunto il livello B2 di conoscenza della lingua inglese, saranno in grado di scrivere un articolo tecnico in inglese nonché di tradurre da e in inglese testi e pubblicazioni sugli argomenti tipici dell’ingegneria meccanica. PREREQUISITES: English I AIMS: This course aims at endowing mechanical engineers with a B2-level knowledge of the English language and at allowing them to be able to write a technical paper in English as well as to translate industrial engineering textbooks and articles. Syllabus: Part I: grammar (14 hours): simple present, present continuous; various types of future (present continuous, going to and will); future continuous and future perfect; much, many, (a) lot, (a) little (a) few, some, any; simple past, past continuous, present perfect, present perfect continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous, modals, conditionals, passive, adjectives with –ed and –ing, comparative and superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs, word order. Ashby as well as sample pages of textbooks and articles concerning the topics covered in the compulsory courses of Mechanical as well as Industrial and Management Engineering: Applied mechanics; Economics; Energy systems; Fluid-dynamics; Manufacturing; Thermodynamics. TEACHING METHODS: Lectures and translations supported by the use of a portable PC and a projector, plus personalized tutoring. EXPECTED KNOWLEDGES AND SKILLS: At the end of the course, A successful student should reach the B2 level of knowledge of the English language and be able to write a technical article as well as to translate with ease industrial engineering textbooks and papers.
