Patrick wasn’t Irish - he was from Wales- but he went to Ireland in 432 AD and
converted many people to Christianity.
Irish people all over the world celebrate St Patrick Day. In Ireland it’s a national holiday
and in Dublin there’s a festival for a week with music, street theatre, fireworks and a
parade.
Many Irish people wear green clothes on St Patrick’s Day because green is the national
colour of Ireland. They also often wear a leaf with three parts called a shamrock,
because St Patrick used the shamrock to explain the three parts of the Holy Trinity.
In New York over 150,000 people walk in the St Patrick’s Day parades.
In Chicago there are dancing and Irish music and they dye the Chicago River green for
one day.
Patrizio non era Irlandese -veniva dal Galles – ma andò in Irlanda nel 432 DC e
convertì molte persone al Cristianesimo.
Gli Irlandesi di tutto il mondo celebrano il giorno di San Patrizio. In Irlanda e una festa
nazionale e a Dublino c ‘è un festival che dura una settimana con musica, teatro di
strada , fuochi d’ artificio e una sfilata.
Molti Irlandesi indossano abiti verdi per il giorno di San Patrizio perché il verde è il
colore nazionale dell’ Irlanda . Spesso indossano anche una foglia con tre parti
chiamata trifoglio, perché san Patrizio usava il trifoglio per spiegare le tre persone
della Santa Trinità.
A New York oltre 150.000 persone sfilano per il giorno di San Patrizio.
A Chicago ci sono balli e musiche irlandesi e tingono il fiume di Chicago di verde per
un giorno.
