Guy Fawkes and the Bonfire Night.

Bonfire Night is on the 5th November. All over England, Scotland and Wales there are bonfires and
fireworks.

Guy Fawkes was born in 1570. He was a Catholic but the king of England, James I, was a Protestant. Fawkes
and a group of Catholics wanted to kill the king. They decided to blow up the Houses of Parliament on 5 th
November 1605.But on 4th November the king’s soldiers discovered their plan, arrested and executed Guy
Fawkes and his friends.

There’s a famous rhyme about Guy Fawkes’ plan:

Remember, remember, the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.

Every year they remember Guy Fawkes’

Gunpowder Plot. Children make a guy -they use
old clothes with newspapers inside- and take it
round the streets asking “ a penny for the guy”.

In the evening on Bonfire Night many people go

to big bonfires parties in parks. People put the
guys on top of the bonfires. Everyone stands
round the bonfire and watches the fireworks.

La Notte del Falò è il 5 di novembre. In tutta l’Inghilterra, Scozia e Galles ci sono falò e fuochi d’artificio.

Guy Fawkes era nato nel 1570. Era cattolico ma il re d’Inghilterra,James I,era protestante. Fawkes e un
gruppo di cattolici voleva uccidere il re. Essi decisero di far saltare in aria le Camere del Parlamento il 5
novembre 1605. Ma il 4 novembre i soldati del re scoprirono i loro piani, arrestarono e impiccarono Guy
Fawkes e i suoi amici.

C’e un famosa rima sul piano di Guy Fawkes:

Ricorda,ricorda,il 5 di novembre,polvere da sparo,tradimento e complotto.

Ogni anno si ricorda il complotto della polvere da sparo di Guy Fawkes. I bambini fanno un pupazzo -usano
vecchi vestiti con dentro giornali- e lo portano in giro per le strade chiedendo “una monetina per il
pupazzo”.

Alla sera nella Notte del Falò molte persone vanno alle feste del grande falò nei parchi. La gente mette i
pupazzi sopra i falò. Tutti stanno intorno al falò a guardare i fuochi d’artificio.
