Fitio ad allora, avevo impiegato la chitarra come strii- mento d’orchestra nelle mie musiche da film, per il teatro e per Ie radio, ¢ anche in una cantata, ma non avevo mai composto per chitarra sola. Accettai con piacere l’invito e scrissi le « Six pie- ces bréves »; seguirono alcune composizioni per tre chitarre e, pid recentemente, una Sonata pér chitarra sola. Mentre mi trovavo a Bergamo, nel mese di ot- tobre di quest’anno, Angelo Gilardino @ venuto a farmi visita ¢ mi ha chiesto di comporre una raccolta di pezzi brevi (Studi, Preludi, Intermez- zi) in tutte le tonalita, anche quelle che meno fre- quentemente, 0 quasi mai, ricorrono nella lette- ratura chitarristica, L’idea mi & piaciuta ¢ ho co- minciato subito a comporre, ispirato dall’atmosfe- ra della cittd natale di Donizetti (uno dei pezzi appunto un omaggio al grande compositore). Ho poi terminato il ciclo a Budapest, dedicandolo ad Angelo Gilardino. 12 dicembre 1982 Ferenc Farkas - BERBEN FOREWORD About twelve years ago, Angelo Gilardino wro- te inviting me to Compose for solo guitar. Up to that moment, I'had treated the guitar as an in- strument of the, orchestra when composing film music, stage music or for the radio, and in a cantata also, but. I had never written for the so- lo instrament. I aecepted with pleasure the invi- tation and I composed « Six pidces bréves »; after I wrote some conipositions for three guitars and, more recently,-a; Sonata Jor solo guitar. During last October, whilst I stayed at Berga- io, Angelo Gilirdino came and visited me; he asked ‘me to write a set of short pieces (Studi, Preludi, Internitezzi) in all keys, also those that are seldom or never used in guitar literature. I liked the idea and immediately begun to com- pose, inspired by the atmosphere of Donizetti native town (oné of the pieces is, by the way, a homage to the ‘great Italian composer). I have then finished the'set in Budapest, and I have de- dicated it to Angelo Gilardino. December 12th,: 1982.
