Dal 7 maggio al 26 giugno sessanta figurini della prestigiosa serie “Il Volto del comando” scolpiti da
Piersergio Allevi e dipinti da Danilo Cartacci saranno esposti al Marengo Museum di Spinetta Marengo,
nei pressi di Alessandria. Li vedremo proprio nel luogo dove si svolse, il 14 giugno del 1800, la famo-
sa e decisiva battaglia della seconda campagna d’Italia che doveva consolidare definitivamente il mito
napoleonico e segnare l’inizio dei suoi anni più gloriosi.
I figurini, tutti pezzi unici facenti parte di preziose collezioni private, hanno già goduto di pubblica espo-
sizione al museo Glauco Lombardi di Parma (fine 2015 e inizio 2016) che raccoglie manufatti e testi-
monianze di Maria Luisa d’Austria, seconda moglie dell’Imperatore e al Museo del Risorgimento di
Milano (fine 2018 - inizio 2019). La pandemia ha impedito di concretizzare un‘ulteriore e già prevista
esposizione al Musée de l’Armée di Parigi, che è stata rinviata al prossimo anno. Si tratta di un‘occa-
sione da non perdere per ammirare da vicino questi soggetti, che sono parte di una serie che va tuttora
ampliandosi e arricchendosi di nuovi personaggi, tutti minuziosamente ricostruiti in 54 mm. in base a
ritratti dell’epoca e studi accurati sulle uniformi del tempo. I figurini saranno esposti in undici teche
tematiche che illustreranno ciascuna uno specifico aspetto del periodo napoleonico. Ovviamente il
nostro paese avrà un posto particolare, così come i soggetti degli eserciti austriaco e russo coinvolti nelle
campagne d’Italia.
È previsto anche un ciclo di sei conferenze settimanali che si terranno presso il Museo, alle ore 18, nei
giovedì 12, 19 e 26 maggio e 9, 16 e 23 giugno.
L’occasione è ghiotta per visitare quest’ottimo museo, allestito secondo i più moderni dettami espositi-
vi con reperti, filmati, quadri, pannelli di facile lettura che consentono di entrare nel vivo del clima del-
l’epoca e rivivere la famosa battaglia e gli eventi che la precedettero e seguirono.
Ricordiamo, infine, a chi desiderasse avvicinarsi a quest’hobby particolare che, al di là dei soggetti unici
visibili in mostra, Piersergio Allevi sta realizzando una serie di figurini storici a tiratura limitata, a piedi
e a cavallo, che è possibile visionare e acquistare a prezzi commerciali attraverso il suo sito facebook:
l’ultimo soggetto, uscito da poco, è Murat, nella tenuta di Colonnello dei Cacciatori-Guide, con l’u-
niforme, cioè. che indossava proprio alla battaglia di Marengo.

From 7 May to 26 June sixty figures from the prestigious series “The Face of Command” sculpted by
Piersergio Allevi and painted by Danilo Cartacci will be exhibited at the Marengo Museum in Spinetta
Marengo, near Alessandria. We will see them right in the place where the famous and decisive battle of
the second campaign of Italy took place on 14 June 1800, which was to definitively consolidate the
Napoleonic myth and mark the beginning of its most glorious years.
The sketches, all unique pieces that are part of precious private collections, have already enjoyed public
display at the Glauco Lombardi museum in Parma (late 2015 and early 2016) which collects artefacts
and testimonies of Maria Luisa of Austria, second wife of the Emperor and at the Museum of the
Risorgimento in Milan (late 2018 - early 2019). The pandemic prevented the realization of a further and
already planned exhibition at the Musée de l’Armée in Paris, which was postponed to next year. This is
an opportunity not to be missed to admire these subjects up close, which are part of a series that is still
expanding and enriching itself with new characters, all meticulously reconstructed in 54 mm. based on
portraits of the time and careful studies on the uniforms of the time. The figures will be exhibited in ele-
ven thematic display cases that will each illustrate a specific aspect of the Napoleonic period. Obviously
our country will have a special place, as will the subjects of the Austrian and Russian armies involved
in the Italian campaigns.
There is also a series of six weekly conferences that will be held at the Museum, at 6 pm, on Thursdays
12, 19 and 26 May and 9, 16 and 23 June.
The opportunity is tempting to visit this excellent museum, set up according to the most modern exhibi-
tion dictates with finds, films, paintings, easy-to-read panels that allow you to get into the heart of the
climate of the time and relive the famous battle and the events that they preceded it and followed it.
Finally, we remind those wishing to approach this particular hobby that, beyond the unique subjects visi-
ble in the exhibition, Piersergio Allevi is creating a
series of limited edition historical figures, on foot and
on horseback, which can be viewed and purchased at
commercial prices through his facebook site: the last

Poiché฀le฀arti฀si฀influenzano฀a฀vicenda฀e฀si฀contaminano฀fra
loro,฀ Riccardo฀ passa฀ volentieri฀ della฀ pittura฀ alla฀ scultura.
Dopo฀ aver฀ disegnato฀ e฀ dipinto฀ i฀ più฀ vari฀ soggetti฀ del฀ XIX

Bustiers of Napoleonic Trumpeters

Some time ago in the magazine we presented the "portfolios" with the plates in a limited edition edited by Riccardo Cerilli and Stefano De Gioannis dedicated to Napoleonic era
uniforms (musicians, diggers helpers of the field).
Since the arts influence each other and contaminate each other, Riccardo willingly switches from painting to sculpture. After having drawn and painted the most varied subjects
of the nineteenth century on the basis of the research and studies of his friend Stefano, he put down the brushes and gave hand to spatulas and putty to make a 1/16 corset of a
sixth cavalry-lancer. regiment at Waterloo with a Polish-style chapska. The subject, inspired by a drawing by Jolly,
came out last November (22 euros) and immediately sold out; it was therefore decided to replicate the experience.
In fact, in the same 1/16 format, another four busts of trumpeters from the Napoleonic period will soon be relea-
sed, chosen from among those for which a uniformolo-
gical table had already been created. The bustiers, pro-
duced in a limited edition and marketed by Riccardo
Cerilli Sculptures, will be ready by the end of May,
with a special discount for those wishing to purchase
the complete series. The relative tables will also be
available, in reduced format, to be placed next to each
subject as a guide for painting.
Interested parties will be able to follow the evolution of
the project and place orders on the "Riccardo Cerilli
sculptures" Facebook site.
To see new portfolios with standard format tables like
those already made in the past we will have to wait a
little longer.

mente฀riferibili฀ad฀eventi฀bellici.฀Ebbene,฀sono฀felice฀oggi฀di฀poter฀scrivere฀di฀una฀serie฀di฀soggetti฀nuovi!!฀La฀ditta฀cine-
se฀Robotime฀è฀specializzata฀nella฀riproduzione฀in฀scala฀di฀ambienti฀civili฀di฀varia฀estrazione,฀ambienti฀casalinghi,฀por-
zioni฀di฀stanze,฀negozi฀e฀botteghe฀dal฀sapore฀antico.฀In฀un฀piccolo฀box฀di฀cartone฀troviamo฀tutto฀quello฀che฀ci฀serve฀per

In฀pochi฀minuti฀ho฀coinvolto฀mia฀figlia฀nella฀costruzione฀della฀panchina฀già฀verniciata฀e฀compresa฀nel฀kit฀che฀vedete
in฀foto,฀e฀che฀riproduce฀un฀piccolo฀giardino฀casalingo฀con฀tanto฀di฀lucernaio,฀vasi,฀e฀piante฀da฀ritagliare฀in฀carta..
Il฀catalogo฀offre฀tantissimi฀spunti฀e฀non฀dimentichiamo฀che฀possiamo฀donare฀luce฀alle฀nostre฀scene฀con฀un฀piccolo
impianto฀già฀presente฀nella฀scatola฀alimentato฀a฀pile฀da฀orologio.฀Una฀buona฀occasione฀per฀aprire฀il฀nostro฀mondo฀a
chi฀lo฀conosce฀poco฀e฀naturalmente฀a฀noi฀maschiacci฀che฀montiamo฀solo฀robe฀di฀motori฀o฀di฀guerra฀!

I have always reviewed, of course, products related to male modeling, after all we certainly cannot think that gentle ladies are,
except for some cases, attracted by scale reproductions of tanks, airplanes, or other subjects historically referable to war events.
Well, I'm happy today to be able to write about a series of new subjects !! The Chinese company Robotime specializes in the
scale reproduction of civil environments of various extraction, household environments, portions of rooms, shops and workshops
with an antique flavor. In a small cardboard box we find everything we need to build the environments, all winks at the green
world since they are recyclable materials such as wood, paper and pressed cardboard, the only thing in plastic is the vial of the glue, of course! Did you think that the necessary
equipment to assemble the kit was missing inside? But no, there is everything you need to complete the construction, which among other things is facilitated by simple joints and
intuitive instructions.
In a few minutes I involved my daughter in the construction of the already painted bench included in the kit you see in the photo, and which reproduces a small home garden
complete with a skylight, vases, and plants to cut
out of paper.
The catalog offers many ideas and let's not forget
that we can give light to our scenes with a small
system already present in the box powered by watch
batteries. A good opportunity to open our world to
those who know little about it and of course to us
tomboys who only mount motor or war stuff!

mica฀dei฀“neo฀borbonici”,฀volta฀a฀presentare฀il฀Sud฀preunitario฀come฀il฀paese฀del฀bengodi,฀ricco,฀fortunato฀e฀felice,฀che฀la฀conquista฀gari-
baldina฀e฀poi฀sabauda฀avrebbe฀condannato฀alla฀povertà฀e฀allo฀spopolamento.

Ma฀è฀soprattutto฀il฀metodo฀di฀lavoro฀dei฀polemisti฀neo฀borbonici฀a฀finire฀sotto฀accusa:฀perché฀ignora฀le฀fonti฀e฀gli฀studi,฀i฀numeri฀e฀le฀sta-
tistiche,฀e฀procede฀per฀assunti฀puramente฀ideologici,฀accampa฀tesi฀non฀dimostrate฀né฀dimostrabili,฀che฀fomentano฀le฀polemiche฀ma฀non

Napoleone฀ Bonaparte฀ fu฀ costituita
l'Artiglieria฀ a฀ Cavallo฀ della฀ Guardia
Imperiale.฀Egli฀era฀sempre฀stato฀un฀sosteni-
tore฀dell'uso฀dell'artiglieria฀a฀cavallo,฀poiché
poteva฀riposizionare฀rapidamente฀i฀cannoni
ovunque฀fosse฀necessario฀sul฀campo฀di฀batta-
glia.
Questo฀ ufficiale฀ di฀ artiglieria฀ della฀ guardia
indossa฀ l’uniforme฀ del฀ 1815.฀ La฀ figura฀ di
Graham฀ Scollick฀ -฀ CGS฀ Military฀ è฀ stata
scolpita฀da฀Carl฀Reid.
La฀ figura฀ è฀ splendidamente฀ scolpita฀ e฀ fusa
senza฀ imperfezioni.฀ L’ufficiale฀ scende฀ una
leggera฀pendenza฀tenendo฀in฀mano฀un฀can-
nocchiale,฀come฀se฀cercasse฀il฀bersaglio฀suc-
cessivo฀per฀i฀suoi฀cannoni.
La฀figura฀è฀stata฀dipinta฀in฀acrilico,฀usando
principalmente฀Scalecolor฀e฀AK.฀Ho฀anche
usato฀inchiostri฀per฀artisti฀della฀Vallejo.
Mark฀Chestnutt Il฀ piedistallo฀ è฀ degli฀ Oakwood฀ Studios,฀ nel
Regno฀ Unito,฀ e฀ presenta฀ l'angolazione฀ per-
fetta฀per฀replicare฀la฀sponda฀erbosa.

On 8 March 1802 the Horse Artillery of the

Imperial Guard was formed by decree of
Napoleon Bonaparte. He was a big believer in
using Horse Artillery as he could quickly reposi-
tion the guns wherever needed on the battlefield.

 This is the 200mm Guard Artillery Officer
depicting the uniform of 1815. The figure from
Graham Scollick at CGS Military and sculpted
by Carl Reid.
The figure is beautifully sculpted and cast with
no imperfections. It’s posed as though stepping
down a slight incline whilst holding up a telesco-
pe as though looking for his guns next target.
The figure was painted in acrylics mainly
Scalecolor and AK. I’ve also used artists inks
from Vallejo.
The plinth is from Oakwood Studios, UK and
featured the perfect angle to replicate the grassy
banking.

Delta฀Florence฀di฀Calenzano฀(Firenze)฀si฀è
svolta฀la฀21a฀edizione฀della฀mostra฀concor-
so฀ “Frammenti฀ di฀ storia”,฀ come฀ sempre
organizzata฀ dall’associazione฀ La฀ Condotta
di฀ Firenze฀ in฀ collaborazione฀ con฀ l’associa-
zione฀Il฀Paese฀dei฀Balocchi.฀Il฀concorso฀si฀è
sviluppato฀ secondo฀ un’articolazione฀ per
periodi฀storici฀più฀sezioni฀ad฀hoc฀relative฀al
mondo฀Fantasy,฀a฀quello฀dell’under฀54฀mm
e฀ a฀ quello฀ dei฀ mezzi฀ militari฀ terrestri.฀ La
cospicua฀ presenza฀ in฀ concorso฀ di฀ figurini
“piatti”,฀nonché฀la฀loro฀elevata฀qualità,฀è฀da
considerarsi฀una฀delle฀più฀piacevoli฀sorpre-
se,฀ tanto฀ da฀ rendere฀ plausibile฀ in฀ futuro
l’inserimento฀ di฀ una฀ categoria฀ specifica฀ o
meglio฀ il฀ suo฀ reinserimento฀ in฀ quanto฀ già
presente฀in฀passato฀ma฀abbandonata฀a฀causa
della฀scarsità฀nel฀numero฀di฀figurini฀perve-
nuti฀in฀concorso.
Dalla฀quantità฀e฀qualità฀delle฀figure฀iscritte
gli฀organizzatori฀traggono฀il฀massimo฀inco-
raggiamento฀ a฀ proseguire฀ anche฀ in฀ futuro.
Naturalmente,฀ rivedere฀ in฀ carne฀ e฀ ossa
tanti฀ amici฀ modellisti฀ dopo฀ due฀ anni฀ di
pandemia฀ha฀evidenziato฀quanto฀fosse฀giu-
sta฀ la฀ ripartenza฀ dell’evento฀ calenzanese,
pur฀ riconoscendo฀ ai฀ media฀ e฀ ai฀ social
network฀ il฀ ruolo฀ fondamentale฀ svolto฀ nel
frattempo฀ nel฀ tenere฀ anche฀ in฀ modalità
“remoto”฀ annodati฀ i฀ fili฀ del฀ movimento,
non฀disperdendone฀così฀tutti฀gli฀elementi฀di
evoluzione฀e฀interazione.
È฀ dunque฀ stato฀ bello฀ avere฀ conferma฀ dal
vivo฀ di฀ quanto฀ sia฀ in฀ costante฀ crescita฀ la
capacità฀ di฀ ricerca฀ e฀ la฀ qualità฀ tecnica฀ del
mondo฀ modellistico฀ grazie฀ all’impegno฀ di
un฀numero฀sempre฀maggiore฀di฀appassiona-
ti.
La฀ giuria,฀ coordinata฀ dal฀ presidente฀ di
turno฀Raffaele฀Aulicino฀del฀club฀MASC฀di
Santa฀Maria฀Capua฀Vetere,฀ha฀attribuito฀gli
adeguati฀riconoscimenti฀ai฀“big”฀in฀concor-
so฀ che฀ hanno฀ proposto฀ opere฀ pregevolissi-
me,฀mentre฀i฀numerosi฀concorrenti฀di฀cate-
goria฀ “base”฀ si฀ sono฀ comunque฀ divisi฀ un
gran฀numero฀di฀premi฀anch’essi฀molto฀pre-

stigiosi.
L’abituale฀premio฀alla฀carriera฀è฀stato฀con-
segnato฀ a฀ Roberto฀ Boschian฀ del฀ Club
Modellistico฀ San฀ Giusto฀ di฀ Trieste,฀ da
tempo฀abile฀modellista฀e฀valente฀organizza-
tore฀di฀mostre.
Purtroppo฀ i฀ costi฀ sempre฀ crescenti฀ delle
“trasferte”฀rendono฀impegnativo฀partecipa-
re฀di฀persona฀alle฀manifestazioni,฀per฀cui฀si
preferisce฀affidare฀i฀propri฀pezzi฀alle฀“navet-
te”฀organizzate฀da฀singoli฀e฀associazioni.฀Se
da฀ una฀ parte฀ non฀ si฀ può฀ ignorare฀ quanto
tale฀ pratica฀ sia฀ meritoria฀ e฀ gradita฀ a฀ ogni
organizzatore฀di฀concorsi,฀d’altra฀parte฀pare
giusto฀affermare฀come฀riuscire฀a฀partecipare
di฀persona,฀vedere฀i฀modelli฀dal฀vivo,฀con-
frontarsi฀con฀gli฀altri฀appassionati฀e,฀perché
no,฀ accedere฀ al฀ mercatino,฀ toccando฀ con
mano฀e฀non฀solo฀vedendo฀su฀uno฀schermo,
magari฀quello฀di฀uno฀smartphone,฀sia฀tutta
un’altra฀cosa.
In฀conclusione,฀da฀parte฀degli฀organizzatori,
un฀ grazie฀ a฀ coloro฀ che฀ rendono฀ possibili
questi฀eventi฀e฀buona฀visione฀delle฀immagi-
ni,฀ che฀ rappresentano฀ solo฀ una฀ parte฀ di
quanto฀ esposto฀ a฀ “Frammenti฀ di฀ storia
2022”.

The 21st edition of the exhibition "Fragments
of history" took place on 12 and 13 March at
the Hotel Delta Florence in Calenzano
(Florence) as always organized by the La
Condotta association of Florence in collabora-
tion with the association Il Paese dei Balocchi.
The competition developed according to an

articulation by historical periods plus ad hoc
sections relating to the Fantasy world, to that
of the under 54mm scale and to that of military
vehicles. The conspicuous presence of "flat"
figures in the competition, as well as their high
quality, is to be considered one of the most
pleasant surprises, so much so as to make the
inclusion of a specific category or rather its
reintegration plausible in the future as it was
already present in the past but abandoned due
to the scarcity of the figures received in the
competition.
From the quantity and quality of the figures
entered, the organizers draw the greatest
encouragement to continue in the future. Of
course, seeing many model-making friends in
flesh and blood after two years of pandemic
highlighted how right the restart of the
Calenzano event was, while acknowledging the
fundamental role played in the meantime in
keeping the knots knotted even in "remote"
mode to the media and social networks. threads
of movement thus not dispersing all the ele-
ments of evolution and interaction.
It was therefore nice to have live confirmation
of how the research capacity and technical qua-
lity of the modeling world is constantly growing
thanks to the commitment of an increasing
number of enthusiasts.
The jury, coordinated by the current president,
Raffaele Aulicino of the MASC of Santa
Maria Capua Vetere, has given the appropria-
te awards to the "bigs" in competition who
have proposed very valuable works, while the
numerous competitors in the "base" category
have nevertheless shared a large number of
very prestigious prizes.
The usual Lifetime Achievement Award was
awarded to Roberto Boschian of the San
Giusto Modeling Club in Trieste, who has long
been a skilled model maker and talented orga-
nizer of exhibitions.
Unfortunately, the ever-increasing costs of
"travel" make it challenging to participate in
person in exhibitions for which one prefers to
entrust one's pieces to the "shuttles" organized
by individuals and associations. While on the
one hand we cannot ignore how much this
practice is meritorious and appreciated by every
organizer of competitions, on the other hand it
seems fair to state how to be able to participate
in person, see the models live, compare with
other enthusiasts and, why not, access at the
flea market, touching with hand and not just
seeing on a screen, maybe that of a smartpho-
ne, that's a whole other stuff.
In conclusion, from the organizers, thanks to
all those who make these events possible and
good vision of the images, that represent only a
part of what was exhibited in “Fragments of
history 2022”.

Risorgimento฀continua฀con฀un฀ufficiale฀dei
Cavalleggeri฀ durante฀ la฀ spedizione฀ in

Spedizione฀per฀la
Crimea,฀ chiamata฀ anche฀ “Guerra
d’Oriente”.
La฀ partecipazione฀ piemontese฀ nacque฀ dal-
l’intuizione฀ del฀ conte฀ di฀ Cavour฀ e฀ risultò

Guerra฀d'Oriente฀- decisiva฀per฀i฀successivi฀accordi฀politici฀tra
le฀potenze฀europee฀intervenute฀in฀soccorso
all’Impero฀Ottomano.

1855-1856
L’ufficiale฀di฀cavalleria฀in฀tenuta฀da฀campa-
gna฀ ben฀ testimonia฀ le฀ difficoltà฀ incontrate
dal฀ Corpo฀ di฀ Spedizione฀ Sardo;฀ indossa
pastrano฀ e฀ stivali฀ dando฀ l’immagine฀ di฀ un
soldato฀sul฀campo฀con฀la฀fidata฀pipa,฀com-
pagna฀ silenziosa฀ e฀ calda฀ durante฀ le฀ pause
operative.
Il฀pezzo฀si฀presenta฀con฀tre฀teste฀indossanti฀i
rispettivi฀copricapi฀in฀uso฀ai฀reparti฀di฀caval-
leria฀in฀Crimea:฀kepì฀originale,฀ricoperto฀da
cerata฀e฀il฀berretto฀da฀fatica฀per฀ufficiali.฀Le
indicazioni฀ reggimentali฀ permetteranno฀ di
realizzare฀ cavalleggeri฀ di฀ Milano,฀ Lodi,
Montebello,฀ Firenze฀ e฀ Lucca,฀ formati฀ suc-
cessivamente฀ e฀ indicati฀ con฀ la฀ colorazione
valida฀sino฀al฀1860.
Il฀ berretto฀ da฀ fatica฀ permetterà฀ con฀ poche
modifiche฀la฀trasformazione฀del฀figurino฀in
un฀ cavalleggero฀ della฀ guerra฀ di฀ Secessione
americana.฀Il฀figurino฀viene฀fornito฀insieme
a฀un฀esauriente฀foglio฀di฀istruzioni,฀comple-
to฀di฀note฀storiche฀e฀indicazioni฀uniformo-
logiche.
A฀ completare฀ le฀ note฀ riferite฀ alle฀ uniformi
abbiamo฀pensato฀di฀aggiungere฀alcune฀tavo-
le฀a฀colori฀realizzate฀anni฀fa฀dal฀nostro฀com-
pianto฀ socio฀ Andrea฀ Bonardini,฀ testimone
di฀ una฀ passione฀ per฀ l’uniformologia,฀ non
improvvisata.
AMIS฀è฀nata฀nel฀lontano฀1985฀con฀queste
finalità฀e฀ha฀avuto฀come฀soci฀molti฀protago-
nisti฀del฀mondo฀italiano฀del฀figurino฀storico

e฀ per฀ questo฀ cerca฀ di฀ mantenere฀ un’atten-
zione฀al฀passato฀per฀portare฀nuove฀energie฀e
appassionati฀ al฀ mondo฀ del฀ modellismo฀ ita-
liano฀ed฀estero.
LA฀SCULTURA
Il฀ primo฀ passo฀ è฀ stato฀ la฀ definizione฀ della
postura฀ con฀ il฀ baricentro฀ spostato฀ sulla
gamba฀sinistra,฀perfetta฀per฀poter฀rappresen-
tare฀una฀figura฀rilassata฀ma฀con฀un฀aspetto
comunque฀elegante฀e฀marziale.฀Il฀manichi-
no฀ viene฀ quindi฀ rivestito฀ con฀ vari฀ strati฀ di
stucchi฀bicomponenti,฀in฀modo฀da฀sfruttar-
ne฀le฀diverse฀caratteristiche฀di฀resa฀e฀lavora-
bilità.฀Ho฀utilizzato฀Apoxie฀Sculp฀bianco฀e
Magic฀ Sculp,฀ nonché฀ mescole฀ di฀ entrambi
in฀ svariate฀ percentuali.฀ Lo฀ stucco฀ fresco
viene฀steso฀e฀lisciato฀sull’anatomia฀con฀spa-
tole฀ o฀ facendo฀ ruotare฀ a฀ mo'฀ di฀ mattarello
un฀ utensile฀ di฀ forma฀ cilindrica.฀ I฀ panneggi
vengono฀ impostati฀ pressando฀ il฀ materiale
con฀aghi,฀piccole฀spatole฀o฀pennelli฀di฀sili-
cone฀conici฀e฀successivamente฀ammorbiditi
con฀ normali฀ pennelli฀ sintetici,฀ lubrificati
con฀ pasta฀ di฀ vaselina,฀ oppure฀ leggermente
imbevuti฀di฀alcool฀o฀acqua.฀Particolarmente
impegnative฀ e฀ interessanti฀ sono฀ state฀ le
lavorazioni฀ di฀ pastrano฀ e฀ mantellina;฀ per
entrambe฀ho฀modellato฀e฀lasciato฀asciugare
in฀momenti฀diversi฀tre฀strisce฀di฀stucco฀tira-
te฀a฀sfoglia฀e฀tagliate฀a฀misura,฀appoggiando
sulle฀spalle฀del฀figurino฀prima฀le฀fasce฀late-
rali฀e฀poi฀quella฀centrale฀a฀coprire฀la฀schie-
na,฀mentre฀le฀tipiche฀pieghe฀verticali฀sono
state฀realizzate฀con฀una฀prima฀impostazione
a฀ fresco฀ utilizzando฀ un฀ pennello฀ morbido
inumidito฀ e฀ successivamente฀ completate
aggiungendo฀ altro฀ materiale฀ sulla฀ base฀ già
catalizzata.฀La฀scultura฀di฀questo฀soggetto฀è
stata฀ accompagnata฀ dalla฀ collaborazione฀ di
due฀ amici฀ dell'AMIS,฀ Gianni฀ Bonavigo฀ e
Antonio฀Benin,฀che฀voglio฀ringraziare฀per฀la
preziosa฀ consulenza฀ storica,฀ insieme฀ alla
loro฀associazione฀per฀l'opportunità฀ricevuta.
PITTURA
L’uniforme฀ presenta฀ la฀ bellissima฀ cappa
color฀ bigio฀ che฀ dona฀ al฀ pezzo฀ carattere฀ ed
eleganza฀ e฀ fondamentalmente฀ è฀ il฀ punto
focale฀sul฀quale฀il฀pittore฀deve฀concentrare
il฀suo฀sforzo฀espressivo.
Le฀ampie฀pieghe฀e฀la฀morbidezza฀del฀panno
richiedono฀ un’armonica฀ distribuzione฀ di
luci฀e฀ombre฀in฀senso฀verticale,฀volte฀a฀esal-
tare฀la฀profondità฀del฀panneggio.฀Per฀questo
ho฀proceduto฀dando฀la฀base฀di฀bigio฀impie-
gando฀ grigio฀ pietra฀ 50%฀ +฀ German฀ Grey
30%฀ +฀ Oxford฀ Blue฀ 10%฀ +฀ grigio฀ azzurro
10%.฀Ho฀poi฀proceduto฀a฀scurire฀con:฀base฀+
Oxford฀Blue฀+฀nero฀e฀a฀schiarire฀con฀base฀+
bianco.
Considerate฀le฀ampie฀campiture,฀ho฀impie-
gato฀ pennelli฀ Windsor฀ punte฀ 1฀ e฀ 2฀ e฀ pen-
nelli฀ piatti฀ sintetici,฀ avvalendomi฀ di฀ una
buona฀base฀data฀ad฀aerografo฀e฀procedendo
nella฀stesura฀della฀pittura฀dall’alto฀in฀basso
sempre฀ solidale฀ al฀ panneggio.฀ La฀ finitura฀ è
stata฀ ottenuta฀ con฀ tamponature฀ a฀ secco฀ di

Risorgimento continues with a Cavalry Officer

 during the expedition to Crimea, also called
"war of the East ".
The Piedmontese participation was born from
the intuition of the Count of Cavour and was
decisive for the subsequent political agreements
between the European powers that intervened
in aid of the Ottoman Empire.
The cavalry officer in country outfit clearly
testifies to the difficulties encountered by the
Sardinian expeditionary force; he wears over-
coat and boots giving the image of a soldier in
the field with a trusty pipe, a silent and warm
companion during operational breaks.
The piece is presented with three heads wearing
the respective headgear used by the cavalry
departments in Crimea: original kepì, covered
with wax and the fatigue cap for officers. The
regimental indications will allow the creation of
cavalrymen of Milan, Lodi, Montebello,
Florence and Lucca formed later and indicated
with the color valid until 1860.

The fatigue cap will allow the transformation of
the figure into a cavalryman of the American
Secession war with a few modifications. The
figure is supplied together with an exhaustive
instruction sheet, complete with historical notes
and uniformological indications.
To complete the uniformological notes, we deci-
ded to add some color plates made years ago by
our late partner Andrea Bonardini, who wit-
nessed a passion for Uniformology, not impro-
vised.
AMIS was born in 1985 with these purposes
and has had as partners many protagonists of
the Italian world of the historical figure and for
this reason it tries to keep an attention to the
past to bring new energy and enthusiasts to the
world of Italian and foreign modeling.
SCULPTURE
The first step was the definition of the posture
with the center of gravity shifted to the left leg,

perfect for being able to represent a relaxed figu-
re but with an elegant and martial aspect. The
mannequin is then coated with various layers of
two-component fillers in order to exploit the dif-
ferent characteristics of yield and workability. I
used white Apoxie Sculp and Magic Sculp, as
well as mixes of both in various percentages.
The fresh putty is spread and smoothed over the
anatomy with spatulas or by rotating a cylindri-
cal tool like a rolling pin. The draperies are set
by pressing the material with needles, small spa-
tulas or conical silicone brushes and then softe-
ned with normal synthetic brushes, lubricated
with vaseline paste, or slightly soaked in alcohol
or water. Particularly demanding and intere-
sting were the overcoat and cape workmanship,
for both I modeled and left to dry at different
times, three strips of stucco rolled out and cut to
size, placing first the side bands on the shoulders
of the figure and then the central one. cover the
back, the typical vertical folds were created with
a first fresh setting using a soft damp brush and
then completed by adding more material on the
already catalyzed base. The sculpture of this
subject was accompanied by the collaboration of
two friends of Amis, Gianni Bonavigo and
Antonio Benin whom I want to thank for the
precious historical advice, together with their
association for the opportunity received.
PAINTING
The uniform features the beautiful gray-colored
hood that gives the piece character and elegance
and is basically the focal point on which the
painter must concentrate his expressive effort.
The large folds and softness of the cloth require
a harmonious distribution of lights and shadows
vertically aimed at enhancing the depth of the
drapery. For this I proceeded by giving the gray
base using stone gray 50% + German gray
30% + oxford blue 10% + blue gray 10%. I
have always then proceeded to darken with:
base + oxford blue + black and to lighten with
base + white.
Considering the large backgrounds, I used
Windsor brushes points 1 and 2 and flat synthe-
tic brushes using a good airbrush base and pro-
ceeding with the drafting of the paint from top to
bottom, always integral with the drapery. The
finish was given with dry infills of earth-colored
acrylic cut with a retardant medium that has
greatly aged and soiled the coat.
Below is the palette adopted for the underlying
uniform based on the uniformological tables
provided by the friends of AMIS.

Pants: gray / light blue + navy blue Andrea.
It is very important to keep the classic very dark
blue tone of the jacket without shooting up the
lights.

epic poem probably composed during the
seventh century, is part of those legends of the
Germanic and Norse tribes who lived in the
Baltic area and had long contacts with the
British coast. In the only surviving text of the
poem, dating back to the 10th century and in
the Anglo-Saxon language, probably reworked
from several stories, Beowulf is the grandson of
King Hygelac, who rules Sweden, he receives a
request for help from the King of Denmark to
help him defeat the monster Grendel. Beowulf
has a ship built, chooses the 14 best warriors he
has and leaves with his uncle for Denmark.
Defeated the monster and the mother of these,
Beowulf returns to his land, where, on the
death of his uncle, he will be crowned King,
keeping the kingdom for 50 years, until a dra-
gon begins to devastate the country and the
king decides to fight him. Beowulf kills the dra-
gon but is also very badly injured and dies shor-
tly thereafter. According to tradition, his body
is burned on a pyre with his armor and his trea-
sure.
This, in short, the story, but the legend of
Beowulf, like all transnational epics, follows
different paths, the Anglo-Saxon, the
Germanic and the Norse. Each filled with
details that differentiate them in the narrative
and in the endings but substantially based on
the same plot: the Hero, the journey, the disco-
very of new territories, the defeat of Evil, good
governance and the well-being of the people,
the glorious end. All this makes Beowulf enter
fully into the poetic epic of world literature.
The text has represented the starting point for
many modern writers and has influenced, due
to its presence of monsters and fantastic crea-
tures, especially the Fantasy works, so much so
that Tolkien himself admitted that he drew
inspiration for his books from that manuscript ,
not before having, in turn, analyzed its history,
publishing a book whose data I report in the
bibliography. Cinema has only recently taken
over this saga, but with alternating fortunes
and minor productions, which, in any case,
have shown an interest in this page of the
Norse Epic.

THE฀FIGURE
The piece, in 80 mm, was sculpted, as said by
Keith Durham, a veteran of the efforts with the
Poste Militaire, for Border Miniatures, a house
founded by Durham himself and Pete
Armstrong.
Author of several pieces, especially medieval
and renaissance, of Border, Durham, as
always, sculpts with the usual accuracy and the
usual style that makes his hand immediately
identifiable. The subject, this time is a little
higher than usual, compared to the 70 mm of
the Poste Militaire we are used to and, perha-
ps, leaves some regrets for the posture, very
simple and less original than the previous pro-
ducts, but in any case it is always a nice piece
to paint. Being a vintage product, as always,
one can hope to be able to find it on the usual
websites. My interpretation, this time, was
made with a mixed technique, acrylic oil
(Vallejo - W & N), and completed with the
creation of a stream made with Vallejo Still
Water. Overall, it was a pleasure to make it
happen.

La฀campagna฀di฀Napoleone฀in฀Spagna฀ebbe
luogo฀durante฀la฀guerra฀d'indipendenza฀spa-
gnola.฀ Dopo฀ le฀ gravi฀ sconfitte฀ subite฀ dalle
truppe฀ francesi฀ nell'estate฀ del฀ 1808,
Napoleone฀ decise฀ di฀ intervenire฀ personal-
mente฀con฀una฀parte฀della฀Grande฀Armata
richiamata฀dalla฀Germania.฀Dopo฀aver฀con-
centrato฀ le฀ sue฀ truppe,฀ organizzò฀ dal฀ 5
novembre฀1808฀una฀serie฀di฀abili฀manovre
che,฀nonostante฀le฀difficoltà฀di฀esecuzione฀e
alcuni฀errori฀commessi฀dai฀suoi฀luogotenen-
ti,฀disgregarono฀lo฀schieramento฀spagnolo฀e
sbaragliarono฀ i฀ principali฀ concentramenti
nemici.฀
L'imperatore฀ raggiunse฀ e฀ occupò฀ rapida-
mente฀Madrid,฀restaurando฀il฀dominio฀fran-
cese฀ nelle฀ regioni฀ centro-settentrionali

dovette฀lasciare฀la฀Spagna฀e฀ritornare฀fret-
tolosamente฀a฀Parigi฀a฀causa฀della฀minaccia
di฀un฀attacco฀dell'Austria฀e฀delle฀notizie฀di
intrighi฀politici฀in฀Francia.฀Napoleone฀così,
nonostante฀i฀rapidi฀successi,฀non฀poté฀com-
pletare฀la฀conquista฀e฀la฀sottomissione฀della
penisola฀ iberica฀ e฀ dovette฀ lasciare฀ grandi
forze฀ in฀ Spagna,฀ che฀ si฀ sarebbero฀ inutil-

LA฀SCENETTA฀

La฀Spagna฀durante฀le฀campagne฀napoleoni-
che฀ rappresenta฀ per฀ gli฀ appassionati฀ del
periodo฀ un฀ campo฀ vasto฀ e฀ ancora฀ in฀ gran
parte฀ inesplorato฀ per฀ le฀ uniformi.฀ A฀ causa
delle฀distanze฀da฀percorrere,฀delle฀continue
imboscate฀ ai฀ convogli฀ di฀ rifornimento฀ ed
delle฀caratteristiche฀del฀terreno,฀i฀reparti฀si
trovarono฀ a฀ esasperare,฀ rispetto฀ ad฀ altre
regioni฀europee,฀l’utilizzo฀di฀quanto฀reperi-
to฀in฀zona.฀Il฀clima฀stesso฀portò฀ad฀adattare
ove฀possibile฀l’uniforme,฀in฀modo฀più฀con-
sono฀alle฀alte฀temperature,฀per฀quanto฀l’e-
scursione฀ termica฀ sia฀ abbastanza฀ elevata
nelle฀zone฀delle฀Sierre.฀L’idea฀della฀scenetta
prende฀ origine฀ dall’interesse฀ per฀ questa
campagna฀ e฀ per฀ gli฀ adattamenti฀ delle
uniformi฀ al฀ clima,฀ come฀ sopra฀ accennato.
Si฀sono฀ambientati฀i฀nostri฀protagonisti฀in
un฀momento฀particolarmente฀drammatico:
i฀corrieri฀francesi,฀com’è฀noto,฀erano฀ogget-
to฀della฀caccia฀spietata฀da฀parte฀dei฀guerri-
glieri฀ spagnoli,฀ con฀ la฀ conseguente฀ distru-
zione฀ o฀ cattura฀ della฀ posta฀ imperiale.฀ Tali
corrieri฀venivano฀quindi฀scortati฀da฀forze฀di
consistenza฀variabile,฀a฀seconda฀dell’impor-
tanza฀dei฀messaggi;฀consistenza฀che฀a฀volte
arrivava฀fino฀alla฀forza฀di฀un฀reggimento.฀Il
nostro฀corriere฀è฀colto฀nel฀momento฀di฀una
fuga฀disperata,฀avendo฀perso฀tutta฀la฀scorta,

caduta฀in฀una฀imboscata.฀Deve฀la฀momen-
tanea฀ salvezza฀ all’intervento฀ di฀ un฀ reparto
 poco฀conosciuto฀e฀poco฀studiato:฀i฀cacciato-
ri฀ di฀ montagna.฀ Il฀ corriere,฀ un฀ aiutante฀ di
campo฀ di฀ generale฀ di฀ divisione,฀ è฀ stato
alleggerito฀ nell’uniforme,฀ dotato฀ di฀ una
borraccia฀per฀l’acqua฀e฀la฀stessa฀gualdrappa
del฀cavallo฀è฀più฀corta฀del฀normale,฀sempre
in฀ considerazione฀ delle฀ alte฀ temperature.
Più฀interessante฀appare฀l’uniforme฀dell’uffi-
ciale฀ dei฀ cacciatori฀ di฀ montagna.฀ Questo
corpo,฀creato฀nel฀1808,฀aveva฀come฀compi-
to฀ esplicito฀ la฀ controguerriglia฀ e฀ operava
quindi฀in฀totale฀autonomia.฀I฀metodi฀usati
erano฀ gli฀ stessi฀ della฀ guerriglia฀ spagnola:
colpi฀ di฀ mano฀ rapidi,฀ annientamento฀ di
piccoli฀ reparti,฀ esplorazione฀ e฀ raccolta฀ di
informazioni,฀ distruzione฀ delle฀ basi฀ (in
genere฀villaggi)฀dei฀guerriglieri,฀con฀la฀stes-
sa฀ ferocia฀ dimostrata฀ dagli฀ spagnoli.฀ Non
deve฀ingannare฀l’utilizzo฀del฀colore฀marrone
per฀ l’uniforme,฀ pensando฀ a฀ una฀ sorta฀ di
mimetizzazione฀ ante฀ litteram.฀ Anche฀ in
questo฀ caso฀ ci฀ troviamo฀ di฀ fronte฀ a฀ una
necessità฀causata฀dalla฀mancanza฀di฀fornitu-
re฀dalla฀madrepatria฀e฀che฀portò฀a฀utilizzare
il฀materiale฀presente฀in฀Spagna,฀come฀l’ab-
bondante฀presenza฀di฀tessuto฀marrone฀per฀i
sai฀ dei฀ frati.฀ L’ufficiale฀ indossa฀ il฀ bicorno,
coperto฀ da฀ tela฀ cerata฀ per฀ preservarlo฀ sia
dall’acqua฀delle฀piogge฀sia฀dal฀sole,฀mentre
il฀ fucile฀ impiegato฀ è฀ più฀ corto฀ di฀ quello
d’ordinanza,฀sempre฀in฀ossequio฀alla฀neces-
sità฀ di฀ maneggevolezza฀ e฀ minor฀ ingombro.
Da฀ sottolineare฀ l’utilizzo฀ delle฀ espadrillas.
La฀cronica฀mancanza฀di฀cuoio฀per฀le฀scarpe,
testimoniata฀ da฀ più฀ memorie,฀ portava฀ a
soluzioni฀fantasiose฀e฀in฀questo฀caso฀le฀espa-
drillas฀ rispondono฀ anch’esse฀ alla฀ necessità

THE฀CAMPAIGN฀
OF฀SPAIN
Napoleon's campaign in Spain took place
during the Spanish War of Independence.
After the serious defeats suffered by the French
troops in the summer of 1808, Napoleon deci-
ded to personally intervene with a part of the
Grand Army recalled from Germany. After
concentrating his troops, from November 5,
1808, he organized a series of skillful maneu-
vers which, despite difficulties in execution and
some errors of his lieutenants, disrupted the
Spanish deployment and routed the main
enemy concentrations. The emperor quickly
reached and occupied Madrid, restoring French
rule in the north-central regions of the Iberian
Spaniards, and even without being able to
encircle it mainly due to the difficulties of the
climate and the terrain, he forced him to re-
embark for Great Britain, after a disastrous
retreat. However, the emperor on January 17,
1809 had to leave Spain and hastily return to
Paris due to threats of an attack from Austria
and news of political intrigues in France.

represented for fans of the period a vast and
still largely unexplored field for uniforms. Due
to the distance, the constant ambushes to sup-
ply convoys, and the characteristics of the ter-
rain, the departments found themselves exaspe-
rating, compared to other European regions,
the use of what was found in the area. The cli-
mate itself led to adapt the uniform where pos-
sible, in a way more suited to high temperatu-

Il฀ figurino฀ è฀ ispirato฀ a฀ un฀ disegno฀ del

Guardia฀ Imperiale฀ durante฀ la฀ campagna฀ in
Germania฀del฀1813.
Le฀ notizie฀ sull’uniforme฀ dei฀ trombettieri
mamelucchi฀ nel฀ periodo฀ imperiale฀ sono
piuttosto฀ tarde฀ e฀ incerte.฀ Mentre฀ in฀ un
primo฀ momento฀ il฀ trombettiere฀ vestiva
all’orientale,฀ come฀ testimoniano฀ alcuni
disegni฀e฀tavole,฀in฀seguito฀l’uniforme฀mutò.
Nel฀disegno฀che฀mi฀ha฀ispirato,฀uno฀stretto
dolman฀ha฀sostituito฀la฀camicetta฀(béniche)

Per฀ il฀ mio฀ figurino฀ ho฀ utilizzato฀ il฀ cavallo
dell’ufficiale฀ dei฀ mamelucchi฀ della฀ Metal
Modéles.฀ Della฀ Historex฀ sono,฀ invece,฀ il
busto฀col฀dolman฀dalla฀ricca฀gallonatura฀ai
bottoni฀ e฀ i฀ pantaloni฀ “charivari”.
Un’attenta฀฀stuccatura฀ha฀permesso฀di฀valo-
rizzare฀il฀lavoro฀di฀modifica฀e฀adattamento,
integrando฀il฀tutto฀in฀modo฀naturale฀e฀gra-
devole.
Nella฀fase฀di฀pittura,฀per฀il฀blu฀cielo฀dell’u-
niforme฀ho฀scelto฀un฀tono฀caldo฀che฀accom-
pagnasse฀i฀colori฀della฀cavalcatura.฀La฀base฀è
fatta฀ con฀ blu฀ di฀ Prussia฀ dell’Andrea
Miniatures฀ e฀ blu฀ Andrea฀ della฀ Vallejo฀ in

enhance the modification and adaptation work
by integrating everything in a natural and plea-
sant way.
In the painting phase, for the sky blue of the
uniform I chose a warm tone that accompanied
the colors of the mount. The base is made with
Prussian blue from Andrea Miniatures and
Andrea della Vallejo blue in a proportion of
50%, and a hint of medium Andrea brown.
For the highlights, I added a blend of Barbarian
flesh from Army Painter and beige from
Andrea, to which I added Vallejo white for
maximum highlights. For the shadows, I combi-
ned the base with a mix of Prussian blue,
medium Andrea brown and a hint of Vallejo
black.
For the painting of the parts in golden fabric I
used a base of Vallejo brown ocher to which I
incorporated increasing doses of ice yellow from
the same company. For the shadows, I added
the medium brown of Andrea to the base,
which maintains the vivacity of the gold. For

L’edizione฀ prevista฀ per฀ il฀ 2020฀ non฀ si฀ era
infatti฀tenuta฀a฀causa฀della฀pandemia฀ed฀era
stata฀ più฀ volte฀ rimandata,฀ in฀ attesa฀ che฀ le
cose฀migliorassero.
Alla฀ fine,฀ si฀ è฀ deciso฀ che฀ non฀ si฀ poteva
attendere฀ oltre,฀ cosicché฀ la฀ città฀ ha฀ final-
mente฀ ospitato฀ la฀ XXII฀ Edizione฀ di
“Modellismo฀che฀passione”.
La฀kermesse,฀organizzata฀dal฀CMT,฀di฀con-
certo,฀ per฀ la฀ parte฀ figurinistica,฀ con฀ lo
Squadron,฀ si฀ è฀ svolta฀ nel฀ Centro฀ Sportivo
CH4,฀già฀sede฀delle฀due฀precedenti฀edizio-
ni.
La฀ novità฀ di฀ quest’anno฀ è฀ stata฀ data฀ dal
fatto฀ che฀ i฀ padiglioni฀ della฀ mostra฀ erano
due,฀di฀cui฀uno฀dedicato฀per฀metà฀ai฀solda-
tini.
Il฀concorso฀ha฀così฀potuto฀usufruire฀di฀lar-
ghi฀ spazi฀ e฀ accogliere,฀ nel฀ pieno฀ rispetto
della฀normativa฀vigente฀in฀materia฀di฀con-
tenimento฀ e฀ gestione฀ dell’emergenza฀ da
Covid-19,฀molti฀partecipanti฀e฀visitatori.
Nonostante฀ alcune฀ defezioni,฀ legate฀ alle
citate฀disposizioni,฀che฀non฀hanno฀consen-
tito฀a฀diversi฀figurinisti,฀molti฀dei฀quali฀stra-
nieri,฀ di฀ partecipare฀ alla฀ manifestazione,฀ a
Torino฀ si฀ sono฀ visti,฀ oltre฀ ogni฀ più฀ rosea
aspettativa,฀tanti,฀tantissimi฀soldatini!
Il฀ record฀ della฀ precedente฀ edizione฀ è฀ stato
infatti฀ ampiamente฀ battuto:฀ quest’anno฀ i
figurini฀in฀concorso฀erano฀950,฀cui฀si฀sono
aggiunti฀ un฀ centinaio฀ di฀ pezzi฀ esposti฀ da
giudici฀e฀collezionisti.
E฀molti฀erano฀i฀capolavori฀esposti฀dagli฀stra-
nieri,฀ provenienti฀ soprattutto฀ da฀ Francia,
Belgio,฀Ungheria฀e฀Spagna.
La฀partecipazione฀in฀forze฀di฀francesi฀e฀belgi
ha,฀tra฀l’altro,฀consentito฀di฀ammirare฀mol-
tissimi฀ piatti,฀ solitamente฀ esclusiva฀ delle
mostre฀d’oltralpe.

Le฀ categorie,฀ dedicate฀ a฀ storici฀ e฀ fantasy,
sono฀state฀ulteriormente฀ripartite฀in฀pittu-
ra,฀open,฀busti,฀piatti฀e฀diorami฀(con฀i฀due
consueti฀livelli,฀master฀e฀standard).
Ciò฀ ha฀ consentito฀ non฀ solo฀ di฀ esporre฀ i
pezzi฀in฀modo฀più฀armonioso฀e฀accattivan-
te,฀ ma฀ anche฀ ai฀ giudici฀ (ben฀ 21,฀ tra฀ cui,
oltre฀ ad฀ alcuni฀ membri฀ di฀ Squadron฀ e
CMT,฀ il฀ coordinatore฀ Fabio฀ Nunnari,

La฀ manifestazione,฀ chiusasi฀ con฀ l’assegna-
zione฀di฀oltre฀trecento฀premi฀(tutti฀merita-
tissimi!),฀ha฀dimostrato฀come฀il฀settore฀sia
in฀grado฀di฀rispondere฀con฀forza฀alla฀pande-
mia฀ e฀ alla฀ crisi,฀ e฀ sia,฀ ieri฀ come฀ oggi,฀ più
vivo฀che฀mai.

This฀allowed฀not฀only฀to฀exhibit฀the฀pieces฀in฀a
more฀ harmonious฀ and฀ captivating฀ way,฀ but
