ATTENZIONE: in inglese, i giorni della settimana e i mesi dell’anno si scrivono sempre con la
lettera maiuscola (grande) all’inizio.I nomi delle stagioni vanno invece con la lettera minuscola
(piccola)

Preposizioni di tempo

Per dire quando si fa qualcosa, bisogna usare delle preposizioni. Le preposizioni più usate sono in,
on, at e from…to. Vediamo quando si usano.

con i mesi: in November, in December

IN con le stagioni: in summer, in autumn

si usa
con gli anni: in 1986, in 1991

con le parti del giorno: in the morning, in the afternoon, in the

evening

Esempi:

My birthday is in November. (Il mio compleanno è a novembre).

Summer starts in June. (L’estate inizia a giugno).
I was born in 1986. (Sono nato nel 1986).

Per i giorni della settimana: on Monday, on Sunday

ON Per i giorni specifici: on my birthday, on 1st September

Per dire “in vacanza: on holiday

Attenzione: quando dopo “on”, il giorno della settimana è al plurale (con “s” alla fine), indica una
cosa che si fa abitualmente in quel giorno. Esempio:

On Monday, I go to Rome. (Lunedì prossimo, vado a Roma).

On Mondays, I go to the gym. (Il lunedì, vado in palestra). Il lunedì=ogni lunedì

Altri esempi:
School usually starts on 15th September in Italy. (La scuola di solito inizia il 15 settembre in Italia).
We always go to Rome on holiday. (Andiamo sempre a Roma in vacanza).

Ricorda: si usa “on” anche se dopo il nome del giorno è indicato la parte precisa del giorno.
Esempio:
We usually go to the shopping center on Saturday afternoons.
Noi di solito andiamo al centro commerciale il sabato pomeriggio.
 Per le ore: at half past eight, at midday…

AT Per il weekend: at the weekend

si usa

Con la parola “night” : at night

Esempi:

I go to school at half past eight. (Vado a scuola alle otto e mezza).

I always go out with my friend at the weekend. (Esco sempre con i miei amici nel weekend).
I can’t sleep at night. (Non riesco a dormire la notte).

FROM…TO…
si usa per dire “da…a”:
I go to school from Monday to Friday.(Vado a scuola dal lunedì al venerdì).
I go to the gym from half past five to half past seven. (Vado in palestra dalle cinque e mezza alle
sette e mezza)
