Japan is a country that pays a lot of attention
to the entrance of foreign companies on the
market. The language barrier is certainly an initial
obstacle to overcome, but what has the greatest
impact is that the Japanese market is always a
little suspicious of products not manufactured on
national soil, especially in the field of technology.
Gas valves are a classic example of this resistance
towards imports. In addition to this cultural
problem, there are also some stringent trade
barriers to be considered. In the case of gas
technologies, for example, it is mainly the
KHK (the High Pressure Gas Safety Institute of
Japan) that has the final say. Bear in mind that in

482 SERIES: REGULATOR

This valve has been specifically designed for pressure re-
gulation on cryogenic liquid gas containers at cryogenic
temperatures. It is to be used in containers where space
and cost are key factors. It has been made with oxygen
compatible materials and it is equipped with a copper
membrane and graphite gaskets, which ensure a better
seal at the temperatures required by these applications.

ve control of delivery pressure with low falloff.

One of the most common anomalies that can occur in
any system is overpressure. An economizer is the solution
to this kind of problem. Should the liquid/gas content of

for the Cooking for Life
campaign. This important
global project, launched by
the WLPGA, seeks to reduce
the risks caused by solid
fuels for cooking with a
particular focus on wood
and coal by introducing
LPG as a clean and safe
alternative. This historic transition to cleaner-
burning fuel involves several developing countries.
The campaign convenes governments, public
health officials, the energy industry and global
NGOs to expand access to LPG and bring this
modern alternative energy to the people who
need it most. It goes without saying that these
efforts also aim to increase public awareness
about how solid fuels negatively affect daily life
and health, particularly when it comes to women
and children, who are the most vulnerable
to these kinds of cooking methods. The data
presented during the Forum in Miami confirmed
that indoor smoke is the tenth leading cause of
avoidable deaths worldwide. It is estimated that
each year, 4.3 million people die from cooking-
related indoor air pollution. Nearly all of these
deaths occur in low- and lower-middle income
countries in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. In some
reports it was noted, however, that India, Brazil
and Indonesia are shining examples of successful
countrywide conversion to LPG, proving that large-
scale adoption is possible. The study presented
in Miami also highlighted how women
wanted to switch to LPG once they tried it,
which is significant because they are the most
involved in cooking and collecting solid fuels.
Not only does access to clean and faster cooking
sources improve health, but it is also strongly
linked to gender issues. As a matter of fact, the
domestic use of cleaner and faster fuels even
affects the social status of women: by helping
them reduce the time needed for cooking and
collecting firewood, they can dedicate more time
to their education, with obvious benefits in terms
of economic, political and social development. As
an old African proverb says: If you send a boy to
school, you educate a man. If you send a girl to
school, you educate a village.

friendly and safe alternative to gasoline. In particular, the tour
pushed for the construction of new natural gas refueling
stations and for the conversion of corporate fleets and public

Laetitia stands out because of her strong personal determination. She

si confermato un evento molto utile per studenti e giovani laureati,
interamente dedicato al mondo del lavoro e allorientamento post-laurea.
Cavagna Group stato presente con un proprio stand per lintera giorna-
ta, cos come altri importanti gruppi industriali, raccogliendo curriculum
vitae e fornendo informazioni sulle opportunit professionali attualmen-
te offerte, sui profili ricercati, sui programmi di inserimento e carriera in
azienda. Molto graditi dai giovani anche i consigli per i percorsi di spe-
cializzazione e master, da intraprendere dopo la laurea, per raggiungere
gli obiettivi auspicati ed entrare con soddisfazione nel mondo del lavoro.
The University of Brescia held its annual Career Day on October 24th, an event
that is dedicated entirely to the world of work and postgraduate orientation.
Once again, it proved to be a very useful initiative for current students and young
graduates. The Cavagna Group gladly took part in the day-long event with its own
booth. Together with other important industrial groups, it spent the day collecting
CVs and providing information about career opportunities currently on offer, the
kind of professional profiles being sought, job placement programs and corporate
careers. The young people who participated also greatly appreciated the tips that
were offered regarding postgraduate courses and masters degrees, which will help
them achieve their desired goals and enter the world of work with satisfaction.

Vi proponiamo in questo numero di BLUE un
significativo passaggio dellintervento di Chri-
stine Lagarde, Direttore generale del Fondo
Monetario Internazionale, tenutosi il 19 mag-
gio di questanno presso il National Democra-
tic Institute di Washington sul tema: la parte-
cipazione delle donne alleconomia.
Vorrei iniziare con una storiella, un indovinello molto
conosciuto. Un ragazzo vittima di un incidente au-
tomobilistico e viene immediatamente trasportato in
ospedale per essere operato durgenza. Nella confu-
sione del pronto soccorso, il chirurgo si affretta in sala
operatoria. Immaginate il nostro chirurgo, un profes-
sionista autorevole e sicuro di s, che sa istintivamen-
te il da farsi. Eppure questo eccellente chirurgo getta
unocchiata al paziente ed esclama, Non posso operare questo ragazzo mio
figlio. vero, il ragazzo il figlio del chirurgo, eppure il chirurgo non il padre del
ragazzo. Chi sar mai? Intuisco che sapete gi la risposta. Facile, il chirurgo una
donna, la madre del ragazzo.
Eppure, in passato ho visto molte persone istruite - persino donne colte - incapaci
di immaginare subito una soluzione talmente ovvia. Ci pensano su, si interroga-
no, suggeriscono zio, nonno, patrigno, mancando sempre il bersaglio. Purtroppo,
questa la realt. Quando pensiamo a donne in posizioni di potere, troppo spes-
so siamo accecati da mille dubbi o equivoci scaturiti dai pregiudizi del passato,
che ancora ci condizionano. Lo sappiamo tutti. Questa la realt contro la quale
ci scontriamo giornalmente in tutto il mondo. Ma siccome sappiamo che nuoce
gravemente alleconomia globale, il Fondo Monetario Internazionale ha deciso di
affrontarla con grande risolutezza. Il mio messaggio semplice: occorre sviluppare
una mentalit da 21 secolo per favorire la partecipazione della donna allecono-
mia. E per far questo, dobbiamo sbarazzarci di tutte le zavorre mentali che ostaco-
lano la parit di genere. Dobbiamo avere il coraggio di cambiare.
Coraggio significa osare, accettare rischi, uscire dalle nostre gabbie mentali e dare

le barriere economiche e sociali. Listruzione spezza le catene, le catene delle-
sclusione e dellemarginazione. Se pensiamo alla vita come a una lunga corsa, la
scuola ci fornisce lallenamento, il nutrimento e il sostegno di cui abbiamo bisogno.

Fund, on the subject of womens participation
in the economy, delivered on May 19th, 2014, at
the National Democratic Institute in Washington.
I want to begin today with a story-a well-known
puzzle. A young boy is involved in a traffic accident,
and is immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent
surgery.
In the bustle and chaos of the hospital environment,
the surgeon strides into the operating room. Think of
a quintessential surgeon-brimming with confidence
and authority, a true type-A personality, one who
knows instinctively how to take charge.
Yet this distinguished surgeon looks down at the boy and gasps, saying: I cant generazioni future. Secondo unindagine, le donne investono

You know this. It is what you fight on a daily basis all over the world. And because
we know it hurts the global economy, it is on the radar of the IMF.
My message is simple: we need a 21st century mentality for womens economic
participation. We need to flush away the flotsam of ingrained gender inequality.
We need to, as I like to say, dare the difference. To dare means to take risks,
to step out of our cozy comfort zones, to let hope extinguish fear and courage
conquer timidity.
Ultimately, daring the difference means wedging open the door to the contribution
of women-their learning, their labor, and their leadership. The 3 Ls of womens
empowerment. Let me talk briefly about each of them.
Let me begin with learning. By this I mean the over-riding importance of womens
education, the foundation upon which everything else must be built.
Education is both an elevator and a springboard. It allows people to raise
themselves up and to break down the divides that keep them apart. At its best,
education is a breaker of shackles-the shackles of exclusion and insularity.
If we think of life as a long race, it is education that provides the training, the

propense a spendere i loro guadagni su salute e istruzione,
creando potenti ripercussioni positive in tutta la societ e nelle

Womens education is not a threat, it is a blessing. We must
make it a global priority, because it is one of the leading causes
of our day.
This is why girls like Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan, who faced
down Taliban assassins to demand the right to an education,
are admirable.
This is why groups like Boko Haram in Nigeria, who kidnap
and sell into slavery young girls who simply want to go to
school, are despicable-they themselves should be found and
forced to go to school for life.
In a deep sense, the actions of Boko Haram represent the
complete antithesis of the values inherent in education. For
their action degrades the dignity of the human being, while
education uplifts, enflames, and ennobles the human spirit.
So let us join our voices to the voices of the world, and let
loose an impassioned plea: bring back our girls, bring back our
girls. Respect our girls.
